An electroviscous fluid which consists essentially of a non-conductive liquid and, dispersed therein, anhydrous spherical multilayered particles comprising particles at least whose surfaces are conductive and, formed thereon, a non-conductive layer having a thickness of about 0.1 to 1 .mu.m. The electroviscous fluid is stable at both ambient temperature and elevated temperatures, i.e., up to at least about 200.degree. C. in an applied electric potential with an alternating current or a pulsating direct current.

A marker apparatus including a retroreflector constituted by three reflective surfaces arranged on three surfaces of a trigonal pyramid and a light source disposed on an optical axis of the retroreflector. A lens is provided in front of the retroreflector and a condensing lens is formed on the lens for condensing light emitting from the light source. A plurality of retroreflectors are provided continuously on the same plane in such a manner that directions of the three reflective surfaces, which constitute each of the retroreflector, are different from one another, and a front view of the retroreflector is regular hexagonal. A wall surface is formed between the three reflective surfaces constituting each retroreflector so that the wall surface directed in parallel with an optical axis.

There are disclosed a vinyl resin composition which comprises a resin composition comprising a vinyl polymer, a polyamideimide elastomer obtained by reacting a mixture of caprolactam, an aromatic polycarboxylic acid and a specified polyoxyethylene glycol, with 0-0.5 mole of a diamine, etc., per 1 mole of glycol contained in said mixture, the glycol component being present in a proportion of 85-30% by weight in said elastomer and the relative viscosity of the elastomer being at least 1.5 (at 30.degree. Vinyl resin composition

A process for the treatment of a quaternary onium salt is described. The process comprises the steps of (i) contacting an organic phase soaringly miscible in water containing a quaternary onium fluorine-containing carboxylate of RfCO.sub.2.sup.-+ AR.sup.1 R.sup.2 R.sup.3 R.sup.4 as defined in the present Specification with an aqueous phase containing a thiocyanate ion to form a quaternary onium thiocyanate in the organic phase and (ii) contacting the organic phase containing the quaternary onium thiocyanate with an aqueous solution containing a water-soluble oxidizing agent to decompose the thiocyanate ion and to form an easily ion exchangeable quaternary onium salt. Also, applications of this treatment to a process for preparing hexafluoropropylene oxide from hexafluoropropylene in a two-phase system of an aqueous phase and an organic phase by using a hypochlorite as an oxidizing agent in the presence of a quaternary onium salt as a catalyst are described.

A vehicular headlamp which includes an inclination measuring unit provided between an aiming screw and the reference member of the headlamp (the lamp body in the case of a movable reflector type headlamp and the lamp housing in the case of a movable unit type headlamp), which is simple in construction and easy to adjust. The inclination measuring unit is provided between the reference member and a straight portion on a rear end portion of the aiming screw, which is threadably engaged with the reference member. The inclination measuring unit includes a guide member extending substantially parallel to the aiming screw, a slide member supported on the straight portion and slidably coupled to the guide member, and a scale provided on the guide member or slide member for indicating an amount of displacement of the inclination member, thereby to measure the inclination of the latter.

In purifying methyl methacrylate by feeding a feed mixture containing methanol, methyl methacrylate and 0.05 to 2% by weight, based on the weight of the methyl Methacrylate, of methyl isobutyrate to a first distillation column, subjecting the same to distillation therein in the presence of a saturated hydrocarbon having 6 or 7 carbon atoms while distilling out said saturated hydrocarbon, the methanol, a small amount of the methyl methacrylate and the methyl isobutyrate through the top of the first distillation column and simultaneously recovering methyl methacrylate freed from methanol and methyl isobutyrate from the bottom of the distillation column, wherein the top distillate is cooled in the decanter to be separated into two layers, the resulting upper layer composed mainly of the saturated hydrocarbon is returned to the first distillation column and the resulting lower layer composed mainly of methanol is fed to a second distillation column in which distillation is conducted while recovering the saturated hydrocarbon dissolved in the lower layer together with a part of the methanol from the top of the second distillation column and sending the same to the decanter, and withdrawing methanol, methyl isobutyrate and a small amount of methyl methacrylate from the bottom of the second distillation column, the methyl methacrylate can be effectively purified in high yield by allowing the saturated hydrocarbon to be present only above the feed stage of the first distillation column to which the feed mixture is fed, cooling the top distillate of the first distillation column to 0.degree.-13.degree. C. in the decanter, providing distillation stages above the feed stage of the second distillation column and conducting distillation while returning a part of the top distillate of the second distillation column to the top of the second distillation column, thereby separating methanol and methyl isobutyrate from methyl methacrylate.

A method for preparing a carboxylic ester by reacting an aldehyde with an alcohol in the presence of oxygen with a catalyst, characterized in that the catalyst is a solid catalyst comprising palladium and bismuth, which may form an intermetallic compound, and which catalyst may comprise an alkali metal compound or an alkaline earth metal compound.
