An operation plan creating system, by simulation based on a supply and demand scenario, extracts for each time point during operation for one day, a scenario that raises the effect of correction of the operation at the time point. The operation plan creating system classifies action-requiring scenarios by action similarity. The operation plan creating system determines an action-requiring scenario group for which actions are similar, and a correction time. The operation plan creating system judges whether an early action scenario group can be identified by data available at an early action time on the current day. If identifiable, the operation plan creating systemcreates an identification condition for the early action scenario group and an optimal operation plan for the scenarios satisfying the identification condition.

A document summarization apparatus or method summarizes an electronic document written in a natural language, and generates an appropriate summary depending on user's focus and user's knowledge. The document summarization apparatus according to the present invention includes, for example, a focused information relevant portion extraction unit, a summary readability improvement unit, and a summary generation unit. The focused information relevant portion extraction unit extracts a portion related to two types of focused information in a document to be summarized based on the two types of focused information, that is, user-focused information as information focused by a user who uses a summary, and author-focused information as information emphasized by an author of the document to be summarized. In the document to be summarized, the summary readability improvement unit distinguishes user known information already known to a user, and information known through an access log regarded as already known to a user based on a document previously presented to the user when a summary is generated, from other information than these two types of information, and selects an important portion in the document to be summarized. The summary generation unit generates the summary of the document to be summarized based on the selection result of the summary readability improvement unit. Thus, a summary can be generated with both user-focused information and author-focused information can be included depending on the knowledge level of a user.

An SGML document accessing unit to automatically create a partial editing document type definition DTD, according to a partial editing request for an SGML type document, that represents a restriction against partial editing to keep the document conformance to the DTD of an entire document. An SGML document editing apparatus edits a portion of the document to be edited corresponding to the restriction of the partial editing DTD that represents a restriction against partial editing due to the existing document structure and influence of other editing works executing in parallel at the time when a partial editing request is issued. An extended content model is attached to every document element of a stored SGML document to reduce the cost of creating a partial editing DTD. The extended content model is a variant of a content model of an element declaration in a DTD, and it represents arrangement of child document elements of its relating document element with instance identifiers of the child document elements. Revision histories of the extended content models of all document elements are also recorded to make history information of the document structure.
