Disclosed is an impact-resistant thermoplastic resin composition which comprises a graft copolymer [II]. The graft copolymer [II] is prepared by enlarging the particles in a latex of a rubbery copolymer [I] formed by emulsion polymerization of a monomer mixture of 51-91 wt. % of an alkyl acrylate and 49-1 wt. % of 1,3-butadiene to adjust the particle size to 0.12-0.4 .mu.m by addition of (A) an acid group-containing copolymer obtained by performing emulsion polymerization of a mixture of 3-40 wt. % of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, itaconic acid, crotonic acid, maleic acid, fumaric acid, cinnamic acid, sorbic acid and/or p-styrene-sulfonic acid, and 97-35 wt. % of an alkyl acrylate, and (B) a salt of an oxyacid having a central element of Groups III to VI of the periodic table, the element belonging to the second or third period, with an alkali or alkaline earth metal or Zn, Ni or Al; and then, polymerizing in the presence of the enlarged rubber copolymer a monomer or monomer mixture comprising 50-100 wt. % of methyl methacrylate and/or styrene. A polymer or copolymer of methyl methacrylate and/or styrene may be incorporated in the thermoplastic resin composition.

Impact resistant thermoplastic resin composition

A methacrylic resin composition having excellent impact resistance and antistatic property is described. This composition comprises (I) 50-99.8 wt. % of a methacrylic resin comprised of 80-100 wt. % of methyl methacrylate units and 0-20 wt. % of other copolymerizable monomer units, (II) 0.1-40 wt. % of a rubbery component which is a polymer containing an elastomeric portion comprising at least 50 wt. % of 1,3-butadiene and/or acrylic acid ester units, and (III) 0.1-10 wt. % of a specified compound.

Methacrylic resin composition

Disclosed is an impact-resistant methacrylic resin composition which comprises a graft copolymer [II] obtained by polymerizing 10 to 900 wt. parts of a monomer or monomeric mixture (B) comprising 80 to 100 wt. % methyl methacrylate and 20 to 0 wt. % of at least one vinyl or vinylidene monomer copolymerizable therewith in the presence of 100 wt. parts of an acrylic elastomer [I] obtained by polymerizing monomeric mixture (A) comprising 9.9 to 29.9 wt. % of styrene and/or its derivative, 70 to 90 wt. % of at least one alkyl (C2-8) acrylate, 0.1 to 5 wt. % of at least one monomer represented by the formula: ##STR1## and 0 to 5 wt. % of a crosslinkable copolymerizable monomer having at least 2 carbon-to-carbon double bonds. This graft copolymer [II] may be used in combination with a methacrylic resin [III] obtained by polymerizing a monomer or monomeric mixture (C) comprising 80 to 100 wt. % methyl methacrylate and 20 to 0 wt. % of at least one copolymerizable vinyl or vinylidene monomer. The impact-resistant resin composition has excellent transparency and weatherability and a good surface gloss.

Impact-resistant methacrylic resin composition

There is provided a heat-resistant methacrylic resin composition, which comprises 1 to 99% by weight of a copolymer [I] obtained by copolymerizing methyl methacrylate, an aromatic vinyl compound and maleic anhydride and 99 to 1% by weight of a copolymer [II] obtained by copolymerizing 80 to 100% by weight of methyl methacrylate and 0 to 20% by weight of other copolymerizable ethylenic monomer. The resin composition according to the present invention is excellent in characteristics such as optical characteristics, mechanical properties, weathering resistance and molding processability as well as in productivity.

A methacrylic resin having a high solar radiant energy absorbing property wherein an organic compound (A) containing cupric ion and a compound (B) having at least one P-O-H bond in a molecule are contained into the methacrylic resin selected from poly(methyl methacrylate) or methacrylic polymers containing at least 50% by weight of a methyl methacrylate unit. A process for producing said methacrylic resin is also disclosed.

Apparatus for continuously casting a sheet and the like

There is provided a polymer composition consisting essentially of 95-50 wt% of a methyl methacrylate homopolymer or copolymer component and 5-50 wt% of a cross-linked elastomer obtained by copolymerizing a mixture of stated amounts of (I) alkyl acrylate, (II) allyl acrylate and/or allyl methacrylate and (III) benzyl acrylate, the elastomer having a stated average particle size and a stated extent of cross-linking. The polymer composition comprises (1) a graft copolymer obtained by polymerizing methyl methacrylate or its mixture in the presence of the above elastomer; or (2) a blend of the above graft copolymer and a methyl methacrylate homopolymer or copolymer. The polymer composition provides shaped articles exhibiting good transparency over a broad range of temperature as well as good weather resistance and impact resistance.
