A system for loading sheet materials on a rotary drum, having carrier for carrying sheet materials to the drum, a mechanism for catching the leading end of the sheet materials on the drum, and a presser member for pressing the sheet materials to said drum rotating, so as to wind said sheet materials around said drum, wherein said system involves a dampening arrangement for dampening the space between sheet materials and the drum surface, which is mirror finished, so as to contact said sheet materials with said peripheral surface of said drum.

A photographic fixing apparatus in which photosensitive material to be fixed is fed between upper and lower inclined guideplates, preferably in the form of a plurality of parallel rods, with the lower plate being transparent and with both plates being ventilated to permit the passage of air therethrough. A halogen fixing heater with a quartz filter colored to filter out wavelengths of light to which the photosensitive material is sensitive being provided below the lower guide plate and with a blower being provided to blow air from below the guide plates through the guide plates to maintain photosensitive material passing between the guide plates out of contact with the lower guide plate.

Apparatus for an electrostatic copying machine using a liquid developer or toner includes a pair of electrodes for developing the latent image on the electrostatically charged photosensitive sheet, of which the auxiliary or back electrode has a specially grooved surface such that the contact area with the sheet is smaller at the front and rear ends of the auxiliary electrode than at the central portion. In one embodiment, the grooves comprise two series of uniformly spaced identical circular arcs, the two series having opposite curvatures for intersection and defining the contact areas.
