The present invention improves surface roughness by knocking down protruding parts while leaving recessed parts in the surface of a metal product, protrusions/recesses having been formed in said surface via blasting, and improves surface hardness and compressive residual stress. Treatment is performed upon a metal product in which protrusions/recesses have been formed in the surface thereof via blasting. Spherical shot that are less hard than the surface hardness of the metal product and have a particle size that is greater than the width of recessed parts of the protrusions/recesses are sprayed toward and collide against the surface of the metal product as crushing shot, and the protruding parts of the protrusions/recesses formed on the surface of the metal product are selectively knocked down, thereby providing a metal product surface member in which the surface roughness of the metal product has been improved.

A method of treating a surface of a mold. A preliminary treatment of dry-ejecting an angular carbide powder against the surface of the mold so as to cause elemental carbon present within the carbide powder to be diffused into the surface of the mold. The carbide powder has particle diameters not larger than those of a 220 grit and the carbide powder being dry-ejected at an ejection pressure of 0.2 MPa or greater. An after-treatment of dry-ejecting a spherical powder against the surface of the mold to cause the spherical powder to impact the surface of the mold and form innumerable circular arc shaped fine depressions. The spherical powder has a hardness not less than the hardness of a base material of metal of the mold and particle diameters not larger than those of a 220 grit and dry-ejected at an ejection pressure of 0.2 MPa or greater.

The method includes: taking a gear for a strain wave reduction gear mechanism as a workpiece, the gear is formed from a machine structural steel containing at least 0.2% carbon and being subjected to heat treatment after having been machined; performing a first process in which carbide particles are ejected against a surface of the workpiece so as to remove machining marks on the surface of the workpiece and so as to cause elemental carbon in the carbide particles to diffuse and permeate into the surface of the gear; and after the first process, performing a second process in which spherical particles are ejected against a surface of the workpiece for increasing an internal compressive residual stress of the gear surface by a magnitude of at least &#x2212;50 MPa.

A method for preventing adhesion of aluminum onto the surface of a metallic product, which can be performed by a simple treatment, at low cost and within a short time. Tin granules having an average particle diameter of 10 to 100 &#x3bc;m and each having an oxide film formed thereon are sprayed onto the surface of a metallic product under a spraying pressure of 0.5 MPa or more or at a spraying velocity of 200 m/sec or more to form a tin oxide coating film at a thickness of 1 &#x3bc;m or less on a portion of the surface of the metallic product, wherein the portion of the surface of the metallic product is a portion at which the metallic product is in contact with aluminum or an aluminum alloy. By forming the tin oxide coating film, it becomes possible to prevent the adhesion of aluminum onto a metallic product.

A sliding member is produced by forming hardening layers with two-layered structure on surface of a substrate metal with a Vickers hardness of not more than Hv300, such as aluminum or magnesium alloy for example, and then forming a DLC film having surface roughness defined as maximum height roughness Rz of 1 to 10 &#x3bc;m further on the hardening layers. Metal or ceramic fine particles having an average particle diameter of 20 &#x3bc;m to 400 &#x3bc;m are injected with compressed air or compressed nitrogen as a mixture fluid onto the skirt portion of the piston, made of an aluminum alloy and produced by a method such as casting or forging, at an injection speed of 80 m/s or more or an injection pressure of 0.2 MPa or more to be collided with the skirt portion, thereby uniformly making a microstructure of a piston base material fine-grained in a depth range of 1 &#x3bc;m to 15 &#x3bc;m from a surface of the skirt portion and forming a modified layer with an activated surface. A lubrication layer is formed on the modified layer, for example, by applying a resin with a low friction coefficient, while a surface of the modified layer is being activated.

Method for surface treatment of a skirt portion of a piston for an internal combustion engine and a piston for an internal combustion engine

The present invention provides a surface-oxide abrasion-resistant lubricant coating that can maintain high lubricity for a long time without wear of a base material and a coating or damage to an object to be contacted by a simpler method and with less expensive material. A mixed fluid of a compressed gas and fine-particle powders of two soft metals having lower hardness and lower melting point than the base material of a sliding contact portion is ejected onto a surface of the sliding contact portion. The fine-particle powders of the soft metals are made to react with oxygen in the compressed gas at the surface of the sliding contact portion to form a metal-oxide film with high melting point composed of metal oxides of the two soft metals, one of the metal oxides having higher hardness than the other. This metal-oxide film with high melting point includes a coating having a thickness of 0.1 &#x3bc;m to 2 &#x3bc;m at an interface toward an object to be contacted, that is composed of the metal oxides, that has low friction resistance and low shear resistance, and shear fractures concentrated the coating thereto.

Surface-oxide abrasion-resistant lubricant coating and method for forming the same

To provide a lubricant for metallic material working and a method of press working a metallic material that makes it possible to improve the working accuracy of a press worked product and prolong the life of the die assembly beyond prior levels of life. [Solution] A lubricant for metallic material working comprises a mixture of a sulfur-based extreme pressure agent, an organic zinc compound, a calcium-based additive, and an ester compound, with lubricant base oil. The sulfur-based extreme pressure agent has a sulfur content of 5% by weight or higher based on the total weight of the lubricant. The organic zinc compound has a zinc content of 0.5% by weight or higher based on the total weight of the lubricant. The calcium-based additive has a calcium content of 0.5% by weight or higher based on the total weight of the lubricant. And the ester compound occupies a content of 1.0% by weight or higher based on the total weight of the lubricant. Additionally, the solution includes a method of press working a metallic material that employs such a lubricant.

An internal combustion piston comprises a modified layer produced by a surface treatment including injecting injection powders having a diameter of 20 &#x3bc;m to 400 &#x3bc;m and containing a reinforcing element to be collided with a surface of the internal combustion piston obtained by casting and forging by injecting at an injection speed of 80 m/s or more or at an injection pressure of 0.3 MPa or more, the reinforcing element improving a strength of an alloy comprising the piston when being diffused and penetrated in the alloy, wherein by the surface treatment, oxides generated on the surface of the piston by the casting and forging are removed, and surface flaws generated on the surface are repaired, whereby the modified layer is formed to have a uniformly fine-grained metal microstructure which contains the reinforcing element in the injection powders diffused and penetrated in the vicinity of the surface of the piston and an alloy element of the alloy comprising the piston.
