There is provided a solid oxide fuel cell module comprising a substrate with an internal fuel flow part provided therein, at least a face thereof, in contact with cells, and interconnectors, being an insulator, a plurality of the cells each made of an anode, an electrolyte, and a cathode, stacked in sequence, formed on a surface of the substrate, and the interconnectors each electrically connecting in series the cells adjacent to each other, wherein the respective cells are varied in area along the direction of fuel flow, and solid oxide fuel cell bundled modules using the same. With the solid oxide fuel cell module of a multi-segment type, according to the invention, it is possible to aim at higher voltage and to attain an improvement in power generation efficiency and current collecting efficiency.

A method of manufacturing a solid oxide fuel cell module involves the steps of co-sintering the respective fuel electrodes, and the respective electrolytes, subsequently forming a dense interconnector out of a dense interconnector material, or an interconnector material which turns dense by sintering in at least parts of the solid oxide fuel cell module, in contact with the respective fuel electrodes, and the respective electrolyte, and forming an air electrode on the respective electrolytes before electrically connecting the respective electrodes with the respective first parts of the interconnectors electrically connecting the respective electrodes with the respective first parts of the respective interconnectors via respective second parts of the interconnectors which have a density less than the respective first parts.

Method for fabricating solid oxide fuel cell module

There are provided a solid oxide fuel cell system made up of (a) a solid oxide fuel cell stack, (b) a preliminary reformer for removing hydrocarbons having two or more carbon atoms from a hydrocarbon fuel by converting the hydrocarbons having two or more carbon atoms into methane, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide, and (c) an integrated heat exchanger for catalytic combustion for heating either air or fuel, or both the air and fuel, to be guided to the solid oxide fuel cell stack, by use of a combustion gas formed by combusting discharged fuel with the use of discharged air, wherein the component equipment described above are disposed in an adiabatic vessel and the integrated heat exchanger for catalytic combustion for use in the solid oxide fuel cell system.

A laminated structure of a flat plate type solid oxide fuel cell is made up of an alloy metal separator having a flat plate and a slit plate, wherein the flat plate is brought into contact with the slit plate after the slit plate is brought into contact with an air pole or the air pole is brought into contact with the slit plate after the slit plate is brought into contact with the flat plate, whereby a problem with the working of the alloy metal separator can be eliminated, and also the excellent performance of the flat plate type solid oxide fuel cell can be maintained by using the separator.

There is disclosed a fuel electrode of solid oxide fuel cells which is made of a cermet composed of yttria-stabilized zirconia containing a transition metal dissolved therein and nickel (Ni) or a cermet composed of yttria-stabilized zirconia containing a transition metal dissolved therein, nickel (Ni) and cerium oxide containing a divalent or trivalent metal dissolved therein, and which can be obtained by adding a solution of a metallo-organic compound of yttrium (Y) and a solution of a metallo-organic transition-metal compound to a solution of a metallo-organic compound of zirconium (Zr) to prepare a mixed solution of metallo-organic compounds of Zr&mdash;Y-transition metal; adding NiO powder or a powder mixture of NiO powder with cerium oxide powder containing a divalent or trivalent metal oxide dissolved therein to the mixed solution of the metallo-organic compounds to prepare a slurry; and subjecting the slurry to hydrolysis, polycondensation, pyrolysis, annealing and reduction successively. The fuel electrode is formed on a solid electrolyte layer by a screen printing process.

Fuel electrode of solid oxide fuel cell and process for the production of the same

A method of manufacturing an anode for solid oxide fuel cells is disclosed whereby the dispersion of nickel particles which form the anode for the solid oxide fuel cell is ensured, coherence of the Ni or NiO particles when being annealed or when generating electricity is prevented, the adhesion of the anode to the solid electrolyte layer is good, the contact resistance is reduced, and the electrode performance is improved. To form an anode on one surface of the central solid electrolyte layer, first, Ni or NiO, and a solution of an organometallic complex salt in an organic solvent, from which is obtained thin- films or minute particles of a solid electrolyte by thermal decomposition, are blended, and the solvent is evaporated until a suitable viscosity is obtained. The slurry obtained in this manner is coated onto the central solid electrolyte layer and this coated film is then dried, annealed, and thermally decomposed to obtain an NiO-solid-electrolyte or an Ni-solid-electrolyte cermet.
