Method for layered structure breaking strength estimation in which an edge of a cutting blade is inserted into an upper layer of the structure and the cutting blade is moved substantially in parallel with an interface between the upper layer and a lower layer of the structure while automatically controlling a depth of the cutting blade to a depth slightly higher than the interface. A force exerted on the cutting blade substantially in parallel with the interface is measured. An apparatus for performing the method is also disclosed.

Method and apparatus for layered structure breaking strength estimation

An apparatus for performing a weather resistance test on a composite material having a metallic, inorganic, or organic base member, and an organic material covering the base member. The apparatus includes a sample holding device disposed in a sample chamber for holding a sample of the composite material. An artificial light source irradiates light substantially in the ultraviolet light area to one surface of the sample. A dipping mechanism dips the sample in a corrosive ionized water, and dew condensation is formed through a temperature control device disposed in the sample holding device, working with a moisture source, for causing dew condensation in the surface of the sample. A cleaning device is provided for cleaning the surface of the sample, and steaming of the sample is performed through the use of a heating element disposed in the sample chamber, and the moistening means, for steaming the sample in an atmosphere of high temperature and high humidity. A control system controls the execution of the operation of the light source, the dipping mechanism, the dew condensation devices, the cleaning device, and the steaming devices, in a sequential manner.

Apparatus for performing weather resistance test

The present invention relates to a material strength measuring apparatus for specimens having a curved surface or an irregular surface with high accuracy. The measuring apparatus according to the present invention comprises: a supporting stand (1) for fixing a specimen (19) thereon; a guide member (3) fixed on the supporting stand so as to be vertical with respect to the supporting stand; a moving member (26) moving linearly and vertically with respect to a measured surface of the specimen along the guide member; a rotating blade (10) urged toward the measured surface of the specimen; a rotating blade supporting body (8) moving with the moving member linearly and vertically with respect to the measured surface of the specimen; a blade rotating motor (6) fixed to an end of the rotating blade supporting body; elements for forcing the rotating blade into the surface of the specimen; a torque detector (5) for detecting cutting resistance against the rotating blade; a vertical displacement detector (7) fixed to the moving member for detecting vertical displacement of the rotating blade; and a recorder (25) for recording outputs of the torque detector and the vertical displacement detector.

Material strength measuring apparatus

Provided is an optical filter structure which has excellent solarization resistance, and stably gives a constant wavelength distribution and constant irradiation energy for a long time, and which efficiently cuts off infrared light including near infrared light and ultraviolet light having a short wavelength and is sufficiently permeable to visible light. The optical filter structure has a glass filter 7 formed of phosphate or fluorophosphate glass containing 0.1 to 5% by weight, as an oxide, of copper oxide and an aquafilter 6 having a liquid layer 5 measuring 3 to 50 mm as a light path length, the glass filter 7 being placed either outside a container wall, 2a or 2b, of the aquafilter 6 or within the liquid layer 5, and the optical filter structure has optical characteristics that the absorption edge on a short wavelength side is a region of light having a wavelength of 250 to 330 nm and that the maximum value of the spectral transmittance on a long wavelength side beyond 780 nm is not more than 40%.

Prior to weathering test for samples, of example, plastic, fiber, or paint, the samples are exposed to ultraviolet ray radiation emitted from high pressure metal halide vapor discharge lamp at an energy level capable of deteriorating the samples in a short time, while maintaining the samples at a temperature which can not be a cause of the deterioration. According to the deterioration level, samples to be subjected to the weathering evaluation test are selected.
