A wire harness-making apparatus includes a wire supply, a wire feeding unit for feeding and measuring harness wires from the wire supply, a wire transport unit for transporting the harness wires, and two connector crimping units positioned on the opposite sides of the harness wire set. The wire transport unit includes first and second wire clamps movable from opposite sides of the harness wires. The first and second wire clamps are driven along an associated top and bottom guides on opposite sides of the harness wire set. These clamps may he operated into and out of contact from vertical directions so as not to interfere with the feeding of wires by the wire feed unit.

Apparatus for making electrical harness

Disclosed is an improved termination apparatus for use in making wire harnesses. The apparatus includes: a connector holder for holding connectors in line; a connector holder drive; a punch for termination a selected terminal of a connector onto a selected wire; a wire insertion-and-guide station for inserting and guiding a wire to the termination position, a detector means for detecting arrival of the inserted wire at the termination position and a test pin for establishing a circuit with the inserted wire; and, a control circuit for controlling the connector holder drive. Under operation of the control circuit, a connector in the connector holder is first aligned with the termination punch. Second, in response to an action taken by an associated identifying means located between the test pin and the free end of a selected wire among the electric wires whose one ends are connected to another connector, a selected connector in the connector holder is positioned such that its selected terminal is also in alignment with the termination punch; and third, selected terminals are presented one after another in alignment with the termination punch.

A wire harness bundling apparatus includes carrier means for carrying harness wires sequentially, shifting means responsive to the amount of the harness wires carried for shifting the harness wires to an apparatus guide means, tape feeding means placed so as to permit the tape to traverse the harness wire pathway between the guide means. The tape is wound around a bundle of harness wires and upper and lower melting-and-pinching means melts and pinches portions of the tape on opposite sides of the harness wire bundle. A drive means drives the upper and lower melting-and-pinching means together to actuate a severing knife placed between the forward and rearward sides of the binding tape.

Electrical wire harness binding apparatus

Right connector pieces (R) are terminated to the right ends of the cores of said insulated wires and left connector pieces (L) are terminated to the left ends of the core conductors of the insulated wires or the left ends of the insulated wires may remain unterminated. Right connector pieces each having terminals fixed thereto are displaced from an initial position to a terminating position. The right connector pieces are terminated to the right core conductor ends of the insulated wires at the terminating position. The right connector piece terminated to the right core conductor ends of said insulated wires are displaced to the initial position which results in pulling the insulated wires out of a wire supply against a resilient tension which is applied to the insulated wires for withdrawal toward said wire supply. The insulated wires are pushed down at the intermediate position between the initial-position and the terminating position to a predetermined lowest level against the resilient tension. A selected insulated wire or wires which are desired to have the longest length are held at the lowest level while allowing the other insulated wires to resiliently rise up to a predetermined second lowest level, thus measuring the second longest length of wire.
