A medium handling device that prompts a user to pull out his hand from a media insertion/delivering port without closing a shutter of the port when the hand of the user remains inside the port, even if a predetermined time has elapsed. A timer counts a time during which the shutter is opened. When the count of the timer has reached a predetermined value, it is checked whether the hand remains inside the media insertion/delivering port. When the hand remains, the shutter is slid to and fro over a predetermined distance, thereby making advance notice of closing of the shutter.

A cash transaction machine includes a sterilizing unit for sterilizing bills by heat, a heating temperature of the sterilizing unit being detected by a sensor and maintained in a specified range, wherein a number of bills to be processed is limited because there is a possibility that if very many bills are processed by the sterilizing unit, the heat is absorbed by the bills and the heating temperature falls, and the germs are not killed effectively, wherein when the bills are not sterilized, the sterilizing unit is operated intermittently to thereby prolong its service life, and the bills are sterilized only when a specified transaction is selected, and wherein a pressure is applied to bills simultaneously with heating by the sterilizing unit to thereby remove folds and rumples of the bills.

A method and system of preengaging a receipt and payment of money is provided which carries out the following steps: inputting dealing data as preengagement data, to carry out a dealing requested by a user; determining the acceptability of the input preengagement data with reference to use data such as the funds in, or the use status of, a cash processing apparatus installed in a branch to be transacted to which the preengagement data is input; transmitting the preengagement data to the branch to be transacted to input the preengagement data thereto, as a processing execution command when the preengagement data is determined to be acceptable; determining acceptability of substitutional preengagement data, different from the preengagement data, when the preengagement data is not accepted; and announcing the substitutional preengagement data to the user when the substitutional preengagement data is obtained.
