A loading mechanism loads a recording medium in response to an inserting operation of the recording medium where the loading mechanism shifts the recording medium from an inserting/ejecting position to a loaded position where data can be recorded on the recording medium and the data can be reproduced from the recording medium. An ejecting mechanism ejects the recording medium in response to a pushing operation of the recording medium located in the loaded position as wherein the ejecting mechanism causes the recording medium to return to the inserting/ejecting position.

A disk storage device includes a head part for writing data to a storage disk inserted into the device and for reading data from the disk, an eject member which is operated when a disk cartridge containing the disk is ejected, a turntable for rotating and driving the disk thereon to perform data recording and reproducing with the head part, a holder for holding the disk cartridge containing the disk, the holder placing the disk at a read/write position on the turntable when the disk cartridge is inserted, a slider which is disconnected from a latch lever when the disk cartridge is inserted and is moved in a direction parallel to the direction of insertion of the disk cartridge so as to place the disk at the read/write position on the turntable, and a movement mechanism for moving the holder and the disk cartridge from the read/write position of the turntable to an insertion position in response to a movement of the slider in the direction opposite to the first direction when the eject member is operated. In this device, the eject member is mounted flat on an upper portion of a frame of the disk storage device which portion is parallel to a surface of the turntable, the eject member having an operation part which is operated by applying an external force thereto, and a transfer part connected to an end portion of the slider.

A flexible magnetic disk drive is disclosed which has a stepper motor coupled to a data transducer via a steel belt motion translating mechanism for moving the transducer from track to track on the rotating disk in response to stepping pulses and a stepping direction signal from an external host system. In order to save power, the stepper motor is held deenergized while the disk drive motor is out of rotation, with the consequent possibility that the transducer may be displaced from the required track position on the disk while the stepper motor is held deenergized. Therefore, in order to always memorize the latest of the successive destination tracks commanded by the host system, a forward/backward counter is provided which counts the external stepping pulses in either direction depending upon the binary state of the external stepping direction signal. After the disk drive motor is set into rotation, stepping pulses and an stepping direction signal are generated internally for causing the stepper motor to automatically reposition the transducer on the memorized latest destination track.

Power saving system for rotating disk data storage apparatus

A disk driver in which a disk is inserted has a head (12), a holder (5), and a slider (14). The holder ascends and descends between a first position and a second position. The head ascends and descends between a third position and a fourth position in response to the ascending and descending of the holder. The disk (3) is inserted into or ejected from the holder (5) at the first position when the head (12) is at the third position, and information is recorded on or reproduced therefrom by the head at the fourth position when the holder is at the second position. Since the third position is higher than the first position so that the head does not hit the inserted disk, there is a space between the first and third positions. Accordingly, the slider (14) is located in the space so that it can avoid hitting the head, and thus the disk driver can be made thin.

A magnetic head carriage device which comprises a head carriage body provided on a magnetic disk drive apparatus slidably in a radial direction of a magnetic disk and in parallel to a guiding axis, an upper arm provided on the head carriage body to have an upper magnetic head on its lower surface, and a plurality of bearing members each having an annular bearing portion and a mounting arm, the annular bearing portion into which a guiding shaft is inserted along the guiding axis, the mounting arm portion extending outwardly from the annular bearing portion, the mounting arm portion of each of the bearing members being fixed to the head carriage body such that the annular bearing portions are located laterally from the head carriage body. The magnetic disk drive apparatus employing this magnetic head carriage device can be constructed to suit the demands in the field, especially one having an overall thickness smaller than that of a conventional magnetic disk drive apparatus.

A magnetic disc unit into and from which a disc case housing a magnetic disc is loaded and ejected includes a chassis, a magnetic head, a slide member being capable of sliding between a first position and a second position, a latch member fixing said slide member at the first position when the disc case is ejected, being pushed by the disc case inserted in said magnetic disc unit at a time of inserting the disc case and fixing said slide member at the second position when the disc case is loaded into said magnetic disc unit and is positioned at a predetermined set position, an arm member rotated by a sliding operation of said slide member, a clamping member clamping the magnetic disc housed in the disc case and a connection mechanism making said clamping member clamp the magnetic disc when said arm member is positioned at a second rotation position and separating said clamping member from the magnetic disc when said arm member is positioned at a first rotation position.
