The present invention relates to a device for displaying a set of data in a space in a manner appropriate for the data while the data are being classified and arranged encounters a problem of requiring a large amount of computation and difficulty in observing results. In relation to a set of data to be expressed in the form of a matrix, a smaller volume of data pertaining to rows or columns are arranged in a space by means of a self-organizing method. The remaining data are arranged through use of only a result of arrangement. Classification and arrangement of data can be performed with a smaller amount of computation. Data pertaining to rows or columns can be utilized by displaying data pertaining to both rows and columns. Hence, a more understandable result can be obtained.

Device and method for automatically classifying documents using vector analysis

A method and system for generating a set of parameters for use in determining whether a given document belongs to a specified one of a plurality of predetermined categories. An evaluation sample selection screen enables an operator to interactively enter various command parameters for selecting documents for which the calculated membership scores are to be evaluated. In response to an input of one of the command parameters, information useful for the selection of documents is visually presented to the operator. An evaluation value input screen shows selected documents and permits the operator to enter an evaluation value to each of the displayed selected documents. The entered evaluation values are reflected to the reference vector of the specified category.

In a document retrieving apparatus, an audio input section converts a sound into a character pattern. A language model storing section stores likelihood information. A word choosing section obtains a word selection result based on the likelihood information. A retrieval condition producing section produces retrieval conditions based on the word selection result. A document storing section stores document to be retrieved. And, a document retrieving section retrieves the documents based on the retrieval conditions. An effective document search can be performed regardless of the sentence recognition accuracy without requiring higher cost in collecting the required language data.

Document retrieving apparatus and document retrieving method

A system for providing keywords to facilitate a search in a text retrieval system. For each of texts constituting a text base, the system creates a word ID of each of words used in the text and a word occurrence count of a corresponding word. The word occurrence count indicates a number of occurrences of a word in each text. For each of words used in any of the texts constituting the text base, the system creates a total word occurrence count and a containing text count indicative of the number of texts containing the word. For each of words contained in the selected texts, a degree of importance is calculated by using the word occurrence count, the total word occurrence count and the containing text count. The words contained in the selected texts are sorted in order of the degree of importance. At least a part of the sorted words are displayed as related keywords.

Keyword extracting system and text retrieval system using the same

Multimedia editing method using templates describing common logic

An information distribution system which distributes information including a large amount of data through an open network to many and unspecific clients being in different retaining situations. An information server includes a data production section, while the client includes a large capacity data retaining medium and a data retaining medium control section. When the information server distributes information through a network to the client, the data production section of the information server provides the data corresponding to the state of the data retaining medium control section of the client, whereas the client suitably uses the data existing in its own data retaining medium in utilizing the data from the information server. This enables effective data distribution.
