Color images with high fixation comparable to that of silver salt photographic images are formed on printing papers, using aqueous ink compositions by ink jet recording. Color images thus formed have high saturation and high resolution. An intercalated compound capable of fixing water-soluble dyes to a printing paper due to the intercalation based on ion-exchanging between them is incorporated into the dye-receiving layer,of the paper, on which color images are formed by ink jet recording using an aqueous ink composition containing a water-soluble dye. The content of the intercalated compound in the layer,is from 10 to 90% by weight. As the intercalated compound, montmorillonoids are preferred when water-soluble cationic dyes are used while hydrotalcite-group minerals are preferred when water-soluble anionic dyes are used. Disclosed are diazahemicyanine hydrophobic cationic dyes represented by the formula (1): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are lower alkyl groups having not more than 5 carbon atoms, R.sup.5 is a lower alkyl group having not more than 5 carbon atoms or a lower alkoxy lower alkyl group having not more than 6 carbon atoms, and Z.sup.- is a counter ion having a hydrophobic organic group, and a thermal transfer ink ribbon having a substrate and and ink layer laminated thereon containing said cationic dye.

Hydrophobic cationic dyes and thermal transfer ink ribbons using the same

A thermal transfer recording medium comprises a substrate and an ink layer formed on the substrate. The ink layer comprises a first dye having a light absorption peak which has a maximum absorption wavelength, .lambda..sub.max, of 420 to 500 nm and a half-value width of at least 100 nm, and a second dye having a light absorption peak which which has a maximum absorption wavelength, .lambda..sub.max, of 570 to 650 nm and a half-value width of at least 100 nm. The ink layer may further comprise a third dye having a light absorption peak whose maximum absorption wavelength, .lambda..sub.max, of 500 to 550 nm and/or a fourth dye having a light absorption peak whose maximum absorption wavelength, .lambda..sub.max, of 620 to 680 nm. When a density-graded indication is made using the thermal transfer recording medium, there can be obtained images whose black hue shift is small in all the density range.

Thermal transfer recording medium

A printing sheet of the type which is used in a thermal transfer system, the printing sheet comprising a support and a dye receiving layer formed thereon, the dye receiving layer including a polymer containing isocyanate group, the polymer having polysiloxane unit and urea unit. The isocyanate group-containing polymer is selected from a reaction product between a multifunctional polyisocyanate compound and amino-modified silicone, or a reaction product between a multifunctional polyisocyanate compound and alcohol-modified silicone or carboxyl-modified silicone and an amine compound or water. According to the present invention, both the writing characteristic and anti-sebaceous characteristic on an image surface are improved simultaneously while basic characteristics such as printing sheet sensitivity, image preservative stability, and so on, are satisfied.

Printing sheet and manufacturing method therefor

An image displaying device which is able to prevent the occurrence of fluctuations in the picture which is projected on the screen, even if some positional fluctuations have occurred in the movie film. The optical axis correcting means is provided on the optical path of the transmitted light which has been obtained from the light source via the movie film, and also the detecting means is provided for detecting the quantity of the displacement from the base position at the time the movie film has stopped on the basis of the travel-synchronizing holes which have been formed in the longitudinal direction of the movie film, whereby the optical axis correcting means is able to change the angle of the optical axis of the transmitted light, according to the result of detection obtained from the detecting means, on the basis of drive controlling by the driving means. As a result the optical axis can be corrected. Thus, an image displaying device can be realized which is able to prevent the occurrence of fluctuations in the picture which is projected on the screen, even if some positional fluctuations have occurred in the movie film.

Image displaying device

A sheet of the type which comprises a release base sheet and a thermal transfer image-receiving layer formed on the release base sheet and which is capable of releasing the thermal transfer image-receiving layer from the base sheet is described. The receiving layer is made of a dispersion, in a resin binder, of a layer compound capable of fixing cationic dyes through ion exchange reaction therewith. The receiving layer can be readily formed on a desired type of substrate by superposing the receiving layer on the substrate, after which the release base sheet is peeled off from the receiving layer. A thermal transfer image can be formed on the receiving layer by superposition with an ink ribbon containing a cationic dye and application of image information to the ink ribbon or by re-transfer of a cationic dye image from a printing paper. The thermal transfer image may be formed prior to the transfer of the receiving layer on the substrate. Owing to the fixing of the cationic dye through ion exchange reaction, the fixing properties of the dye in the receiving layer can be significantly improved.

The present invention relates to an adhesive composition utilized to adhere an ink layer to a first substrate of a recording medium used for heat-sensitive transfer printing. The adhesive composition comprises polyamide and organo boron polymer. The organo boron polymer is a polyester which includes acidic chelate complex residue by reaction of polyol and boric acid. The adhesive composition provides a sufficient adhesive force between the ink layer and the first substrate of the recording medium such that the ink layer does not peel off from the first substrate and stick to a dye acceptor layer of a second substrate during the heat-sensitive transfer printing process.

Recording medium for heat sensitive transfer printing

A composition for fixing water-color ink for fixing a water-color ink is disclosed. The composition for fixing a water-color ink contains an ion exchanger, such as, a clay based interlayer compound or an ion-exchange resin. The composition for fixing water-color ink contains a water absorptive resin or a heat-melting resin as a binder. A cover film for thermal transfer is formed by forming a water-color ink fixing layer consisting of the composition for fixing water-color ink peelably on a base material. An adhesive layer or a heat-melting resin layer is formed on the water-color ink fixing layer. The cover film for thermal transfer image is superposed and thermo-compression bonded onto a thermal transfer image or a thermal transfer image having a protective layer, with the water-color ink fixing layer, the adhesive layer or the heat-melting resin layer facing the thermal transfer image or the thermal transfer image having the protective layer. The water-color ink fixing layer is transferred and stacked onto the cover film for thermal transfer image.

A printing sheet which is adapted for use in thermal transfer recording comprises a substrate (1) and a dye image-receiving layer (2) formed on the substrate. The layer (2) comprises an isocyanate group-containing polymer having at least one polysiloxane moiety and at least one urethane bond site therein. The isocyanate group-containing polymer is a reaction product between polyfunctional polyisocyanate compound and alcohol-modified silicone. A method for making such a sheet is also described.
