A secondary battery includes an electrode body including a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate; a battery case containing the electrode body; a terminal attached to the battery case; a conductive member having an opening adjacent to the electrode body; a deformation plate that seals the opening, and a current collector. The positive electrode plate and a positive electrode terminal are electrically connected to each other via a first positive electrode current collector, the deformation plate, and the conductive member. The first positive electrode current collector has a through-hole. The deformation plate is disposed to face the through-hole. A portion of the first positive electrode current collector distant from the through-hole is welded to the deformation plate to form a weld.

Secondary battery

A secondary battery includes an electrode body including a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate; a battery case containing the electrode body; a positive electrode terminal attached to the battery case; a conductive member having an opening adjacent to the electrode body; a deformation plate that seals the opening, and a current collector. The positive electrode plate and the positive electrode terminal are electrically connected to each other via a first positive electrode current collector, the deformation plate, and the conductive member. The deformation plate has a thick portion, which has a larger thickness than the surrounding area, in a central part. The thick portion of the deformation plate is welded to the first positive electrode current collector to form a weld.

A prismatic secondary battery of one configuration has a current disconnection mechanism, and a distance from a first conductive member to a second conductive member along a surface of a first insulation member and passing an outer periphery of the first insulation member is greater than or equal to 2.4 mm. At least one of the first insulation member and a second insulation member is formed from a material having a weight reduction percentage of 100% in thermo gravimetric measurement under conditions of a measurement temperature of 25&#xb0; C.-600&#xb0; C., a temperature increase rate of 5&#xb0; C.&#xb1;0.5&#xb0; C./min, a measurement atmosphere of inert gas flow, and an amount of measurement sample of 10 mg&#xb1;5 mg.

Prismatic secondary battery having spark prevention mechanism and battery pack using the same

A prismatic secondary battery includes a prismatic hollow outer body having a mouth and a bottom; a flat electrode assembly, a positive electrode collector, a negative electrode collector, and an electrolyte, all of which are stored in the prismatic outer body; a sealing plate sealing up the mouth of the prismatic outer body; and a positive electrode terminal attached to the sealing plate in an electrically insulated manner. The sealing plate includes a gas release valve and an electrolyte pour hole and further includes, on the front face, a concaved flat face having an identification code. With the prismatic secondary battery of the invention, a jig for assembly or the like is unlikely to come into contact with the identification code during an assembly process of the prismatic secondary battery, hence the identification code is unlikely to be abraded, and the traceability is unlikely to be lost.

Sealing plate for prismatic secondary battery and prismatic secondary battery using the sealing plate

A sealing plate for a prismatic secondary battery includes a pair of mouths for attaching a negative and positive electrode terminals, one mouth being formed near one end in a longitudinal direction of the sealing plate, and the other mouth being formed near the other end, coining areas used for positioning of an insulating member and formed around the pair of mouths on a front face of the sealing plate, a gas release valve and an electrolyte pour hole formed between the pair of mouths, and grooves formed between the respective coining areas and the long side edge of the sealing plate. The groove has a smaller depth near the gas release valve than the depth near the coining area. Even when the sealing plate is produced through forging, the front face has good flatness and the coining areas are unlikely to have a sink mark or a shear drop.

A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a flat winding electrode assembly including a positive electrode substrate exposed portion on one end and a negative electrode substrate exposed portion on the other end. The winding numbers of the positive and the negative electrode substrate exposed portions are each 30 or more. The positive and negative electrode substrate exposed portions each have an outermost surface welded and connected with a positive and a negative electrode collectors, respectively. A nonaqueous electrolyte used to fabricate the battery contains a lithium salt having an oxalate complex as an anion. At the welded connection portions, all of the layers of the positive electrode substrate exposed portion are melted to be welded and connected to the positive electrode collector, and all of the layers of the negative electrode substrate exposed portion are melted to be welded and connected to the negative electrode collector.

Nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery

A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to an embodiment of the invention includes: a flat electrode assembly including a positive electrode and a negative electrode; a bottomed prismatic hollow outer can storing the flat electrode assembly and a nonaqueous electrolyte and having an opening portion; and a sealing plate sealing the opening portion of the hollow outer can. The nonaqueous electrolyte contains at least one of a lithium salt having an oxalate complex as an anion and lithium difluorophosphate (LiPFO). The outer surface area of a battery outer body including the hollow outer can and the sealing plate is 350 cmor more. With this configuration, the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery has excellent battery characteristics.

Provided is a sealed battery with improved safety and reliability in which no spark discharge or voltage recovery occurs after a current interrupt mechanism has been actuated. A sealed batteryincludes a current interrupt mechanism: having an inversion plateand a collector. The collectorand the inversion plateare electrically and mechanically joined in the easily breakable sectionand the inversion section, the easily breakable sectionis broken and displaced together with the inversion sectionby the displacement of the inversion section, and the electric connection of the collectorand the inversion plateis interrupted. The distance between the collectorand the easily breakable sectionafter the displacement is within a range of 0.3 mm to 1.5 mm.

Sealed battery including current interrupting mechanism

Provided is a prismatic battery resistant to the development of short circuits. The prismatic battery has a structure in which a flat electrode including a positive electrode collector with a positive electrode substrate exposed portion and a negative electrode collector with a negative electrode substrate exposed portion is accommodated in an outer can. At least one of the positive electrode collector and the negative electrode collector has a rib. The rib is provided with an easily bendable part (a thin wall, groove, opening, or notch). The rib is bent at the easily bendable part when force is applied to the tip of the rib to prevent the tip from reaching the outer can by means of an insulation sheet to avoid the development of short circuits between the negative electrode collector and the outer can.

Prismatic battery

Provided is a sealed secondary battery having a current interrupt mechanism with a high heat resistance that prevents fusion of the current collecting plate by the Joule heat generated during high-rate charge and discharged. A current interrupt mechanismof a sealed secondary batteryprovided in accordance with the present invention is configured such that when the internal pressure inside a battery caserises above the predetermined level, a current interrupt valveis deformed by the internal pressure in a direction of separating from a rectangular plate-shaped current collecting plateand the current collecting plate breaks in the portion of an annular grooveof a central thin sectionof the current collecting plate.

Sealed secondary battery

A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to an embodiment of the present invention includes an electrode assembly, a nonaqueous electrolyte, and a container. The electrode assembly includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator. The negative electrode is opposed to the positive electrode. The separator is disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. The container houses the electrode assembly and the nonaqueous electrolyte. The container has a positive electrode terminal and a negative electrode terminal. The positive electrode terminal is electrically connected to the positive electrode. The negative electrode terminal is electrically connected to the negative electrode. The container further includes a short-circuiting mechanism that short-circuits the positive electrode terminal and the negative electrode terminal if the internal pressure rises. The nonaqueous electrolyte contains lithium bis(oxalato)borate (LiBOB).

Disclosed is a highly reliable prismatic secondary battery with a current interruption mechanism that is unlikely to be damaged even if the battery is subjected to shock due to vibration, falling, etc. A second insulating member that has a through-hole is disposed between an inversion plate and the first region of a positive electrode collector, and through the through-hole the first region of the positive electrode collector is electrically connected to the inversion plate. First to third projections to formed around the through-hole formed in the second insulating member fit respectively into first to third openings formed in the first region of the positive electrode collector, and the diameters of their apexes are widened, thus forming first to third fixing portions. Thereby, the second insulating member is robustly joined to the first region of the positive electrode collector.
