The multi-layer display device apparatus has a first display part, a second display part arranged at the rear-side of the first display part, a transforming part arranged between the first and the second display part. The transforming part transforms a linear polarized light in to a non-polarized light. Further, the display device has a storage part which stores a parameter for adjusting the image quality of the image displayed on the first and second display part, and an image adjustment part which adjusts the image quality of the image displayed in the first and second display part based on the parameter stored in the storage part.

Multi-layer display apparatus

When one row electrode has been selected with a selection signal, driving signals are supplied to column electrodes so as to cause electroluminescence elements at corresponding display pixels to emit light. The driving period for impressing the driving signals and emitting light from the corresponding display pixels is determined on the basis of the color of the display pixel that is to emit light. Thus, with a simple configuration, the brightness of each color can be made uniform without the use of pulse width modulation or the like.

The upper limit Vof the driving voltage PVdd is set in such way that the brightness of an organic EL element is lower than the first standard brightness Lwhen the video signal Dm is at the black signal level (V), in an EL display device with the driving source for driving the organic EL element. Also, the lower limit Vof the driving voltage PVdd is set in such way the brightness of the organic EL element is higher than the second standard brightness Lwhen the video signal Dm is at the white signal level (V). The electroluminescent display device displays black and white with a proper contrast.

In a passive type EL display apparatus having a matrix structure, column electrodes include first column electrodes ( ) corresponding to pixels at odd rows and second column electrodes ( ) corresponding to pixels at even rows. The first and second column electrodes are individually driven by respective first and second column drivers ( ), while a row driver ( ) drives pixels located at odd and even rows adjoining in the column direction, namely row electrodes corresponding to these pixels simultaneously, to thereby execute simultaneous display for one set of odd and even rows. An resulting EL display apparatus can provide reliable display with a small scale circuit without using frame buffers for temporarily storing data to be displayed.

A videophone at e.g., a called location, receives sound signals, video signals and control signals through a communication circuit from a communication line and originating at, e.g., a calling videophone. A start signal detecting means, within the called videophone detects a storage start requesting signal from received control signals originating at a calling videophone. At the time of such detection, a coding circuit within the called videophone again encodes the video signals, that are received by the communication circuit and continuously decoded by a decoding circuit, and transmitted by the calling videophone but only by one frame therefrom and stores the frame into a storage circuit. After storing the one frame, a change-over circuit in the called videophone switches to the storage circuit to continuously store the subsequent incoming coded video and sound signals for eventual playback.

A videophone having an automatic answering capability

A color still picture transmission system includes color visible telephones which are coupled to each other through a telephone network. In succession to luminance signal data of all picture elements forming a whole screen, respective averaged values of two kinds of color difference signal data of four picture elements being adjacent to each other are sent from the color visible telephone at a sending party to the color visible telephone at a receiving party through the telephone network, a modem and a network control unit. In the color visible telephone at the receiving party, a monochromatic still picture is first displayed on a color CRT in accordance with the luminance signal data of all the picture elements which are precedingly received and stored in a video memory, and thereafter, the monochromatic still picture is sequentially changed to a color still picture by writing the same averaged color difference signal data in storage positions of the video memory corresponding to four picutre elements being adjacent to each other.

Color still picture transmission system

A system for transmitting image data on a telephone network or equivalent, which typically includes video or visual telephones as apparatus of sending part and receiving part. In the video telephone of sending part, when an image data sending key is operated, a DTMF signal generator included in a modem is started to operated and a specified DTMF signal, for example, DTMF-A signal or DTMF-B signal is sent as a signal DTMF-DTA to a telephone circuit through a network control unit for approximate 300 milliseconds. Succeedingly, in spite of presence or absence of a responsive signal from the video telephone of receiving part, a non-signal state is formed for approximate 75 milliseconds, immediately thereafter, the image data is sent from the video telephone of sending part at a transmission speed of 4,800 bps or 2,400 bps. In the video telephone of receiving part, when the signal DTMF-DTA, that is, the above described DTMF-A signal or DTMF-B signal is continuously received for approximate 250 milliseconds, a modem thereof is started at 4,800 bps or 2,400 bps, and the image data being sent from the video telephone of sending part is received.
