An imaging apparatus of the disclosure includes a case, an imaging system that captures an object image and generates image data, a displaying unit that displays the image data, a detection sensor that detects the case having been held by a user, a power supply unit that supplies power to the imaging system, the displaying unit, and the detection sensor, and a power supply operation unit that selects turning on or off of supplying power. When the detection sensor detects the case having been held by the user, the power supply unit supplies power to the imaging system, but not to the displaying unit, which is referred to as a tentative startup state.
