In a liquid crystal display (), a transparent electrode () constituting a display liquid crystal cell () has a plurality of patterns (and the like) for forming a desired pattern in the outer circumferential part () forming the whole display region, and transparent electrodes () are sandwiching at least a part of liquid crystal molecules of a liquid crystal layer (). When voltage application control of the plurality of patterns (and the like) is performed, respectively, for the whole display region displayed by bright display or dark display, a desired pattern can be displayed by reversed bright/dark display of the bright/dark display of the whole display region. Furthermore, the bright/dark display of at least a part of the whole display and the desired pattern can be reversed by applying a voltage to the transparent electrodes () and changing the orientation of whole liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer () to the direction parallel with the normal to a substrate ().

Liquid crystal display

A phase difference plate and a liquid-crystal layer are provided between a polarizing plate and a selective reflection layer formed of cholesteric liquid crystal. A first color filter layer is provided on the polarizing plate side of the selective reflection layer. On the back side of the selective reflection layer, a second color filter layer is arranged. On the back side of the second color filter layer, a backlight is provided. When a liquid-crystal display device functions as a reflective liquid-crystal display device, light entering through the polarizing plate is reflected totally by the selective reflection layer and passes through the first color filter layer twice. When the liquid-crystal display device functions as a transmission liquid-crystal display device, light from the backlight passes through the selective reflection layer. Then, the light passes through the second and first color filter layers once and is outputted.

An object of the present invention is to provide a display device which can realize a magnified image. A display device comprises a display panel having a predetermined effective display region PS, a display screen, and a magnifying optical system including a first inverting optical system constituted by a first lens array in which a plurality of first lenses corresponding to the display panel are arrayed and a second inverting optical system constituted by a second lens array in which a plurality of second lenses corresponding to the first lenses are arrayed. The magnifying optical system constitutes a plurality of channels for forming on the display screen a magnified erect image for a display image on the display panel through the corresponding first and second lenses. The magnifying optical system is constructed so as to form on the display screen an image of an image point on the display panel through at least three of the channels.

A liquid crystal display device realizing both a wide view angle and a high-quality image display without &ldquo;coloring&rdquo; or &ldquo;letter blurs&rdquo; comprises a front substrate, a rear substrate facing to the front substrate, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the front substrate and the rear substrate, a mirror-reflection layer disposed on the rear substrate, a single refraction layer provided on an outer surface of the front substrate, a polarizing plate provided on an outer surface of the single refraction layer, and a diffusing layer provided on an outer surface of the polarizing late to diffuse light from the single refraction layer.

Reflection-type liquid crystal display device

A plane light source unit includes a tubular light source, and a light guide. The light guide has a light emitting surface and a reflecting surface in addition to a light incident face placed near the tubular light source to receive light emitted from the tubular light source. The light guide has a plurality of projections or grooves arrayed on the light emitting surface to extend parallel to each other along a longitudinal direction of the tubular light source so as to cause the light incident from the light incident face to emerge from the light emitting surface. The height or depth of each of the projections or grooves increases from the central portion to the two end portions in the longitudinal direction of the tubular light source.

Plane light source unit and light guide used therein

On a light exit surface which is the first principal plane of a light guide, multiple projections are fabricated in specific rows. These projections have light exit surfaces and continuous multiple slopes, and are fabricated from optically identical materials having the same refractive index as the substrate of the light guide. The slope farthest from the light entry edge surface is formed as a light exit surface, i.e., a surface which breaks the conditions for the total reflection of the incident light. On the other hand, the slope nearest the light entry edge surface which is the total reflection surface is formed such that the incident light is totally reflected.

A display device having an emitter, a direct-view display screen, a light-guiding member for guiding illumination light emitted from the emitter to the direct-view display screen, a light separating element for separating the illumination light selectively into a first and second polarized light component and transmitting the first light component and reflecting the second light component, a light converting member for converting the reflected second light component to a first light component, a reflecting plate for returning the converted first light component to the light separating element, and a half-wave film for rotating the vibration direction of the first polarized light component, thereby obtaining the illumination light.

A fingerprint image input apparatus for optically detecting ridges of a skin surface of a finger and inputting a detected signal to various control units, includes a transparent member having a lower surface and an upper surface on which the finger subjected to fingerprint detection is pressed, a light source for emitting light from said lower surface to said upper surface of said transparent member, a photosensor for detecting light reflected or scattered from said upper surface of said transparent member, and means, inserted midway along an optical path from said light source to said photosensor, for linearly (in a predetermined direction) focusing light incident on said photosensor, wherein the fingerprint input apparatus further includes another transparent member formed so that the upper surface of the transparent member on which the finger is pressed serves as a light scattering plane with respect to a wavelength of the light.

Fingerprint image input apparatus including a cylindrical lens

An optical pickup assembly has a lens assembly movably supported in a magnetic gap of a yoke by flexible supporting members. Magnetic interaction between elements of the lens assembly and the yoke help center the lens assembly in the magnetic gap. Electromagnets move the lens assembly from the centered position. A light source, a collimator lens and a polarizing beam splitter are fixed with respect to the yoke.
