The amount of ink ejected from a recording head is measured using a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) method. An ink detector arranged outside an image area includes an AT-cut quartz oscillator constructed by vapor-depositing Al electrodes on both surfaces of a quartz plate, and the ink ejected from the recording head mounted on a carriage is deposited on this quartz oscillator. A change in resonant frequency caused in the quartz oscillator due to the deposition of the ink is detected, and the mass of the ink ejected from the recording head is measured based on the detection results.

In a method of adjusting record displacement of a serial printer including a recording head which records a plurality of lines at a time in the main scanning direction, a first test pattern which is formed of a plurality of line patterns spaced apart by a prescribed distance is recorded in the main scanning direction, the record sheet is fed by a prescribed amount, and a second test pattern which is formed of prescribed recording patterns is recorded. Based on the positional relations between the first and second test patterns, the feeding amount of the record sheet is adjusted. Since the feeding amount of the record sheet is adjusted based on the positional relations between the first and second test patterns, record displacement in the feeding direction of the record sheet can be adjusted easily, and the cost increase of the serial printer can be suppressed.

An image forming apparatus is provided with a developer for developing a latent image on a photoreceptor drum into a visible image and a transfer drum having a position detector, for holding a supplied transfer material at a predetermined position and conveying the transfer material, and a transfer voltage source for supplying a transfer voltage to a conductive base of the transfer drum and output values of the transfer voltage source vary in stages when toners of a plurality of colors are transferred. In the image forming apparatus, when printing is continuously performed on a plurality of transfer materials, the timing where output values of the transfer voltage source are returned to the initial value is synchronized with the timing where the rear end of a transfer material having a maximum length capable of being printed is separated from the photoreceptor drum. As a result, the transfer material attracted by the transfer drum can be surely prevented from being jammed.

A magnetic image forming apparatus includes a developer for developing a magnetic latent image. The developer has a liquid ink and particles of a resin to be dispersed in the liquid ink. The particles contain magnetic powder formed of plural parts dispersed in each of the particles of the resin. The apparatus also includes a stirrer for stirring the developer in a storage device. Also, there is a restrictor for limiting an amount of developer to be supplied.

The object of the invention is to provide a transfer apparatus including a transfer drum which carries a transfer material by electrostatic attraction with reliability, and can prevent the transfer nonuniformity of the image. The transfer drum is so formed that on the surface of a dielectric layer made of cylinder-shaped aluminium, are formed side by side two semiconductor layers each formed by a foamed elastic member, and on the surface of the semiconductor layers are stacked a conductive layer formed by PVDF. The first semiconductor layer is formed under the transfer region within the surface of the transfer drum, and the diameter of cell is set to be in a range of over 0 .mu.m to 50 .mu.m. Also, the second semiconductor layer is formed under the non-transfer region within the surface of the transfer drum, and the diameter of cell is set to a size of 500 .mu.m or more.

Disclosed are a method of and a device for measuring different kinds of photosensitive toners each being sensitive to light with a different range of wavelengths and contained in a photosensitive toner mixture which is used for forming a color image by a single exposure and developing operation. One or more than one kind of light is selected from the different kinds of light having wavelengths to which the respective kinds of toners are sensitive, so as to be projected to the photosensitive toner mixture, so that one or more kinds of photosensitive toners sensitive to the projected light are discharged. The one or more kinds of discharged photosensitive toners are separated from the one or more kinds of charged photosensitive toners, and the amount of the charged photosensitive toners is measured. On the basis of the amount of each kind of photosensitive toner that is not sensitive to the projected light, the density of that photosensitive toner, or other photosensitive toners are determined.
