The present invention provides a surface treatment film that is capable of imparting durability such as wear resistance, friction resistance, chemical resistance, heat resistance, and solvent resistance to the surfaces of various substrates, and that exhibits excellent adhesion to the surfaces of the substrates. The surface treatment film is provided on the surface of a substrate. The surface treatment film has a laminated structure that includes a polymer layer (i) disposed on the surface side of the substrate and a polymer layer (ii) disposed on the polymer layer (i). The polymer layer (i) contains a first polymer derived from a polymerization initiation group-containing polymer, such as a polyester having, in a side chain, a functional group represented by formula (1) wherein Rrepresents a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, or the like, Rrepresents a methyl group or the like, X represents a chlorine atom or the like, Y represents O or NH, and * shows a bonding position. The polymer layer (ii) contains a second polymer which contains a constituent unit derived from a monomer such as an aromatic vinyl-based monomer and which extends using the functional group represented by formula (i) as a polymerization initiation point.

The present invention pertains to fine cellulose fibers comprising a carbamate group. The degree of substitution with the carbamate group with respect to hydroxy groups in the fine cellulose fibers is preferably no less than 0.05 and no greater than 0.5. The present invention pertains to a slurry comprising the fine cellulose fibers, to a composite comprising the fine cellulose fibers and a resin, and to a production method of the fine cellulose fibers, comprising performing a heat treatment on a mixture of a plant raw material and urea or the like, and performing a miniaturization treatment of the plant raw material.

A method for manufacturing a graft polymer, that ensures more stable progress of a living radical polymerization by using a monomer structural unit containing an iodine initiating group as an initiator, includes performing a living radical polymerization of a compound with a vinyl monomer by an organic catalyst to manufacture the graft polymer. The present invention provides a separating medium including porous resin particles which has a sufficient pore diameter suitable for liquid chromatography applications and which has high strength, is reduced in pressure loss during liquid passing, has the excellent property of separating a desired substance, and has low nonspecific adsorption properties. The separating medium of the invention is a separating medium obtained by treating porous epoxy resin particles and having an average pore diameter of 10 to 2,000 nm, or a separating medium obtained by treating porous epoxy resin particles and having a water content of 50% or higher.

An object of the present invention is to provide a technology of dispersing cellulose readily in a hydrophobic substance such as a resin by treating cellulose being a hydrophilic substance in a system that contains water as a main medium with a polymer dispersant, which has been developed for dispersing a fine and hydrophobic substance such as a pigment, in a simple and efficient manner without conducting surface modification of nanocellulose or other treatments. The object is solved by a process for producing a readily dispersible cellulose composition, the process including dissolving a polymer dispersant having a block copolymer structure having a resin-affinitive segment A and a cellulose-adsorptive segment B in a hydrophilic organic solvent solution, adding a surface active agent to the resultant solution, thereafter adding water to the resultant mixture to prepare an aqueous dispersion treatment agent containing the polymer dispersant, and adding the obtained aqueous dispersion treatment agent to cellulose in a water-containing state or in a dry state, thereby obtaining a readily dispersible cellulose composition. The object is also solved by a process for producing an aqueous dispersion treatment agent for use in the process for producing a readily dispersible cellulose composition, the readily dispersible cellulose composition, and a cellulose-dispersed resin composition using the readily dispersible cellulose composition.

Provided is a low-cost, highly active, environmentally friendly living radical polymerization catalyst which does not require a radical initiator. An organic compound having an oxidation-reduction capability is used as a catalyst. Even if a radical initiator is not used, a monomer can be subjected to a radical polymerization to obtain a polymer having narrow molecular weight distribution. The cost of the living radical polymerization can be remarkably reduced. It is made possible to prevent adverse effects of using a radical initiator. The present invention is significantly more environmentally friendly and economically excellent than conventional living radical polymerization methods, due to advantages of the catalyst such as low toxicity of the catalyst, low amount of the catalyst necessary, high solubility of the catalyst, mild reaction conditions, and no coloration/no odor (which do not require a post-treatment for a molded article), etc.

A highly active and environment-friendly catalyst for use in a living radical polymerization is provided. A catalyst for use in a living radical polymerization method is provided. The catalyst comprises a central element, which is selected from nitrogen and phosphorus, and at least one halogen atom, which is bound to the central element. A monomer having a radical reactive unsaturated bond is subjected to a radical polymerization reaction in the presence of the catalyst, thereby it is possible to obtain a polymer having narrow molecular weight distribution. The present invention has the merits such as low toxicity of the catalyst, a small amount of the catalyst being required, high solubility of the catalyst in the polymerization media, mild reaction conditions, no coloration, no odor (unnecessary post-treatment of molded products). The method of the present invention is more environment-friendly and economical than other living radical polymerization methods.
