An apparatus is provided for widening the woven conductive sheath that Surround a shielded cable. The apparatus includes opposed punches that move into Contact with the exposed conductive sheath. Forces exerted by the punches are Sufficient to cause the extreme end of the exposed conductive sheath to be flared outwardly. The punches may be moved circumferentially around the wire for successive punching operations to achieve a uniform flaring. The punches also may be moved axially further away from the flared end to perform a second series of punches to flare the conductive sheath even further. The flared conductive sheath then can be folded over the insulating sheath.

Apparatus for processing an end of a shielded cable

Connectors and electrical wires of a wire harness are temporarily arranged on a plate, and an interior panel on which fixtures are provided is set on the plate on which the wire harness is temporarily arranged. Connectors and electric wires are held by the fixtures, and the interior panel is separated from the plate, so that the wire harness is integrated with the interior panel. Since connectors and electric wires are positively held by the fixtures, the shape of the wire harness is not collapsed, and the fixtures are used not only as temporary fixtures but also as final fixtures to attach the wire harness onto the interior panel. Accordingly, when the automobile manufacturer attaches the interior panel to an automobile body, the wire harness is simultaneously incorporated into the automobile body.

Apparatus and method of manufacturing an automobile wiring harness having a predetermined wiring route

Both ends of a plurality of parallel electrical wires are respectively connected to the connectors with pressure by a pressure-connecting and wiring machine into which the plurality of electrical wires are introduced, and the thus introduced electrical wires are sent to the electrical wire pressure-connecting section via the electrical wire cutting section. At this time, the connectors are successively fed to the electrical wire pressure-connecting section of the pressure-connecting and wiring machine in the direction parallel with the arrangement of the pressure terminals. After the electrical wires have been connected to the connector with pressure, the pressure-connected electrical wires of a predetermined length are drawn out from the pressure-connecting and wiring machine. Then the pressure-connecting and wiring machine is turned round the vertical axis by an angle of 180&deg;, and the electrical wires, which have been drawn out before, are connected to the other connector with pressure and cut. At this time, the positions to which the electrical wires are drawn out are located in the front and at the rear with respect to the parallel direction of the connectors. Therefore, it is easy to ensure the space in which the electrical wires are accumulated.

Manufacture of a wire harness

An apparatus and method are provided to widen a woven sheath of a wire. The apparatus and method are operative to punch an exposed woven sheath S,in radial directions by a pair of punches,to deform and widen the woven sheath. The woven sheath S,can be deformed and widened easily even if it has a multi-layer construction.

Method for processing an end of a shielded cable

Cylinders are arranged in such a manner that they correspond to a plurality of pressure-blades by one-to-one, and desired pressure-blades are pushed downward by the corresponding cylinder rods, so that the desired pressure-blades are protruded from and fixed at the lower ends of the residual pressure-blades. The thus arranged pressure-blades are lowered with respect to the connector. Then, only the pressure-blades protruding from the lower ends of the other pressure-blades can conduct the operation of pressure-connection. Due to the foregoing, after the electrical wires F have been connected to the pressure-terminals of one connector all at once, in the pressure-connecting process of the other connector, only when the desired pressure-blades are selected and the selected pressure-blades are moved along the arrangement of the pressure terminals of the other connector, the wire harness of cross-wiring can be manufactured. Therefore, it is not necessary to frequently move the pressure-blades between the connectors.

Apparatus for making a wire harness

Both ends of a plurality of parallel electrical wires are respectively connected to the connectors with pressure by a pressure-connecting and wiring machine into which the plurality of electrical wires are introduced, and the thus introduced electrical wires are sent to the electrical wire pressure-connecting section via the electrical wire cutting section. Therefore, it is easy to ensure the space in which the electrical wires are accumulated.

An electric cable guiding device includes a fixed guide block and a movable guide block. A projected round surface is formed in the fixed guide block, and an indented round surface is formed in the movable guide block. In addition, a groove is formed in the indented round surface. At the time of guiding an electric cable, the movable guide block is fitted in the fixed guide block. In this state, the indented round surface and the groove constitute an electric cable guide path. The electric cable is fed into the electric cable guide path by rollers. Consequently, the electric cable is guided in a U shape along the electric cable guide path. The front end of the electric cable drawn out of the electric cable guide path is clamped. Thereafter, the movable guide block is moved to an electric cable measuring position that is spaced apart from the fixed guide block by a predetermined distance. In this state, the electric cable is fed by a required length. The rear end of the electric cable is clamped by a guide clamp and then is cut.

Electric cable guiding device

Recesses 12 are formed on an upper surface 10a of a turntable 10 detachably mountable on a support member 20. The recesses 12 are arranged at a pitch of a specified angle .theta. on a plurality of concentric circles C1 to C4 centered on a longitudinal axis 11. The turntable 10 is slid along an x-axis by an air cylinder 80 and is intermittently rotated by the specified angle .theta. by an air motor 40. In this way, a desired recess 12 can be moved to a receiving position P. The waterproof plugs can be securely supplied. A preparation for changing the kind of the waterproof can be made only by replacing the turntable, with the result that the preparation can be easily made within a short period of time.

Method of supplying parts and supplying device

A plurality of wires W are caused to hang downward substantially in U-shape, such that the ends of wires W to be bound together are closely fixed. The end portions of a plurality of fixed wires W are positioned in the vertical direction by straightener 16 and holder 17 and automatically bound with tape by tape winder 18. The binding position can be determined in the vertical direction, thereby obviating the need to lay wires W over their entire lengths in the conveying direction of the production line. As a result, the distance to lay wires W can be shortened by the hanging amount of wires W, thereby considerably reducing the space required for the installation of the wire binding apparatus.

Apparatus for winding tape

A pallet 71 is provided to array connector housings C side by side in correspondence with the side by side alignment of an aligning unit A in a plurality of rows. A conveying unit 74 includes a plurality of actuators 74a for holding a row of connector housings C arrayed side by side on the pallet 71. Conveyors 74b, 74c and 74d are further provided to carry actuators 74 a integrally to the aligning unit A. In changing the combination of the connector housings to be handled, only the pallet needs to be replaced without necessitating a change in a conveying unit. Accordingly, the conveying unit 74 can be widely used for a variety of connector housings, and labor and time required for replacement can be reduced. Further, installation can be of smaller size compared to the prior art guide member for guiding the connector housings C in sliding contact therewith, leading to a considerable reduction in installation cost.

Connector housing supplying device

The invention provides a terminal inserting drive apparatus for inserting both terminals of a wire into a corresponding terminal cavities in cooperation with a housing carrying apparatus (150). The terminal inserting drive apparatus has a pair of hand sections (1615 and 1616) for, respectively, gripping both ends of the wire (W) with terminals; a conveying section (1611 and 1612) for, individually, conveying the hand sections (1615 and 1616); and a conveying control device (100) for operating the conveying section (1611 and 1612) so as to convey simultaneously both hand sections (1615 and 1616) normally and operating the conveying section (1611 and 1612) so as to convey both hand sections (1615 and 1616) sequentially when both hand sections (1615 and 1616) would interfere with each other.

Terminal inserting drive apparatus for inserting terminals on wire

The present invention relates to a connector housing feeding mechanism capable of rotating a plurality of connector housings around an axis along the direction in which the connector housings are juxtaposed and displacing a group of the connector housings to a predetermined terminal inserting position and housing replacing position.

Connector housing feeding mechanism

A connector housing positioning unit includes a holding member for holding connector housings, a locking member for locking corresponding connector housings to the holding member, a shifting member for shifting the locking member between a clamping position for clamping the connector housing and a releasing position for releasing the connector housing, and a mounting member detachably fixed to a connector housing feeding apparatus that feeds the connector housings to a terminal inserting mechanism, for integrally carrying the holding member, locking member and shifting member.

A method of and an apparatus for inserting into a terminal cavity of a connector housing, a terminal of a wired terminal in which the terminal is connected with an electric wire, comprising: a terminal grip member for gripping the terminal, which includes a pair of guide arms openable and closable in a horizontal plane and a terminal press arm pivotable in a vertical plane; a wire grip member for gripping the electric wire, which includes a chuck retractably advanced along the guide arms between the guide arms, a first drive member for retractably advancing the chuck and a second drive member for opening and closing the chuck such that a state of grip of the terminal by the terminal grip member is cancelled and established by the chuck at a forward end and a rearward end of a stroke of the chuck, respectively; and a robot flange for supporting the terminal grip member and the wire grip member.
