There is provided a multi function peripheral which has a plurality of functions which includes a communication unit that communicates with an external storage device which has a connection with the multi function peripheral, and a registration information acquisition unit that acquires registration information stored in the storage device indicating whether each of the plurality of functions is allowed to be used, through the communication unit. The multi function peripheral operates so that functions for which usage is indicated to be allowed by the registration information are caused to be executed according to operations of the multi function peripheral by a user, and functions of which usage is indicated not to be allowed by the registration information are prevented from being executed irrespective of operations of the multi function peripheral by the user.

The temperature is controlled to transfer to the standby state on switching to transfer to the standby state, and otherwise, controlled to be in the sleep state is until receiving an instruction to the first mode.

A recording device includes an image retrieval unit, a memory, an image forming unit, and a control unit. The image retrieval unit retrieves images of the document pages as document image data. The control unit begins retrieving document image data from the memory as the image retrieval unit is retrieving document image data and sends the document image data to the image forming unit. The image forming unit uses document image data to form images on recording sheets faster than the image data is retrieved. The control unit checks the memory to confirm whether document image data for a next document page is stored in the memory. The timing of the memory check is both after completion of forming an image of a present document page at the recording sheet transport speed and when storage of image data for the next document page is anticipated to start in the memory.

If recording medium is in the second tray but the size of the recording medium is not the same as the size of the recording medium loaded to the first tray, a notice indicating a size change is presented and recording is completed only if the user approves the size change using an operating panel.
