An operation guide system is disclosed which is able to inform an operator only of input operations presently available for a computer, a word processor or the like, and guides operation automatically in case of invalid operation. When an operator taps one of the keys arranged on a keyboard, a key signal is sent out to a key comparison section. The key comparison section determines whether the input key signal is from a key assigned to an available operation in a current operation state or not by referring to information in a key table storing unit. When it is determined that the key signal is not from a presently valid key, it is determined whether a condition for outputting the guide is satisfied or not with reference to a guide condition setting section. If the condition is satisfied, an instruction is given to an operation guide output section to output the operation guide. Further, if the condition is not satisfied, another key signal is awaited. The operation guide output section which receives the instruction outputs the operation guide.

A method of manufacturing a high permeability amorphous magnetic alloy is disclosed. In the method amorphous magnetic alloy ribbon prepared by quenching a melt of raw material is annealed at an elevated temperature lower than a crystallization temperature of the alloy, in a magnetic field. During the annealing, the alloy ribbon and the direction of the magnetic field are relatively rotated with each other. The method is especially useful to an amorphous magnetic alloy having high saturation magnetic induction where the magnetic Curie temperature of the alloy usually exceeds the crystallization temperature of the alloy.

A pick-up device for reading out information which has been recorded on a magnetic medium. The device comprises a substrate and a layer of soft magnetic material overlying a surface of the substrate, the easy axis or direction of magnetization being normal to the surface and the magnetic material having properties capable of having magnetic bubble domains generated and propagated therein, so that when the pick-up device is used to read out information from a magnetic medium, patterns of magnetic domains are formed in the layer of magnetic material corresponding to the patterns of the recorded information. Although the magnetic material is of the type capable of having magnetic bubble domains generated and propagated therein, there is no need to provide the usual bias field for maintaining the bubble domains or for providing domain-transport or domain-annihilating fields. In one use of the pick-up device, light is transmitted through the substrate and through the layer of magnetic material to be reflected from a layer of light-reflective material back through the magnetic material and the substrate, whereby the polarization of the reflected light is rotated, relative to the polarization of the transmitted light, by an amount determined by the patterns of magnetic domains formed in the layer of magnetic material. Hence, the recorded information can be optically read from the magnetic medium. In another use of this device, a magnetoresistive head is disposed on the substrate, the resistance of this magnetoresistive head being varied as a function of the patterns of magnetic domains formed in the layer of magnetic material.

An alloy for a magnetoresistive element has an ordered phase with superstructure and consists of nickel and cobalt atoms, and the ratio of the nickel atoms to the cobalt atoms by the number of atoms is substantially within the range of 40:60 to 60:40. A method of manufacturing an alloy for a magnetoresistive element includes the steps of preparing a substrate for a magnetoresistive element, and forming so a nickel-cobalt alloy film on the substrate at the temperature of more than 250.degree. C. that the alloy has an ordered phase with superstructure and the ratio of the nickel atoms to the cobalt atoms by the number of atoms is within the range of 40:60 to 60:40.

Apparatus is provided for producing an output signal upon sensing the proximity of a source of magnetic field. The apparatus includes a magnetoresistive element which is comprised of an insulating substrate upon which first and second ferromagnetic strips are provided. The ferromagnetic strips define first and second main current conducting paths which are respectively perpendicular to each other. The strips are connected in series to define a junction therebetween from which an output signal is derived. Current supply terminals are provided for furnishing an energizing current to the magnetoresistive element. Impedances are connected in parallel with the series-connected strips to thereby form a bridge circuit with the ferromagnetic strips, the junction between the strips serving as a bridge output terminal. A generator magnet has a surface disposed in a plane spaced from the magnetoresistive element and produces a magnetic field which is sensed by the element. An output signal is produced from the junction in the element as a function of the relative positions of leading and trailing edges of the generator magnet with respect to a leading edge of the magnetoresistive element.
