There is provided a device for reading a code on a subject. The device includes an imaging unit provided with an imaging element, a depth-of-field extending unit, and an optical distorting unit. The imaging unit captures an optical image formed on a light-receiving surface of the subject. The depth-of-field extending unit acquires a focused image regardless of distance to the subject, within a predetermined read-out range. In the optical distorting unit, the captured optical image is distorted such that i) the focused image at a minimum distance in the read-out range includes an overall image of the code and ii) the focused image at a maximum distance in the read-out range is provided so as to allow at least a predetermined number of pixels to be assigned to a unit image of the code.

Device for optically reading information codes

In an apparatus for optically reading an information code, a case has one wall in which a reading window through which light is transmittable. The reading window has a length and a width. An area sensor has a pixel area composed of pixels. The pixels are arranged in rows and columns. The area sensor is disposed in the case such that the pixel area is opposite to a window surface of the reading window, and row and column directions of the area sensor are inclined to directions along the length and width of the reading window, respectively.

Apparatus for optically reading information

An optical reading apparatus with which, when it is not being driven, the power supply to most parts is turned off and wasteful battery consumption is prevented, when the host computer side finishes processing with respect to the bar code reader handy terminal 2 and extinguishes the light-emitting device 30, because the light-receiving device 28 of the power supply part 70 transmits a power supply control signal indicative of driving the power supply OFF, the switching circuit 74 turns off the driving power supply from the battery 72 to the processor 40 and the functioning of the processor 40 stops. Because the processor 40 has its power supply turned on by the host computer due to this, at times of waiting for instructions from the host computer side that which is driven is the power supply part 70 only. Because the consumption of the storage battery 72 of driving of the power supply part 70 is extremely low compared with driving of the stand 4, needless consumption of the battery 72 can be prevented.

Optical reading apparatus having active and passive power source

A differential detector (2) reproduces a spreading code (S2) of a received signal (S1). A digital correlator (4) calculates a correlation value between the reproduced spreading code (S2) and a reference spreading code (S3) by collating bit by bit. The timing when the correlation value exceeds a predetermined threshold value (D2) means that the reproduced spreading code (S2) and the reference spreading code (S3) match in phase. A phase of the reproduced spreading code (S2), or a phase of the received signal (S1), is discriminated at that timing. A multiplier (8) outputs a modulated signal (S6) by multiplying the received signal (S1) bit by bit in phase by a spreading code (S5) which has the same code as the reference spreading code (S3). In result, a spreading code with an accurate code sequence and phase is obtained for despreading, and theoretical process-gain is obtained.

Receiver for spread spectrum communication

A portable radio station 1a transmits a communication-quality-confirmation pattern data 'f' to a stationary radio station 2a, wherein a first communication quality information '1' is produced by measuring erroneous bits of the received signal. The first communication quality information '1' is transmitted from the stationary radio station 2a to the portable radio station 1a, together with a communication-quality confirmation pattern data 'n'. The portable radio station 1a receives both the first communication quality information '1' and the communication-quality confirmation pattern data 'n', and produces a second communication quality information by measuring erroneous bits of the received signal. Then, the first and second communication quality information are independently displayed on a display section 18 of the portable radio station 1a.
