The goal is to provide a medical suture needle having, as the material, austenite stainless steel with a structure that is elongated in a fiber form while improving the hardness and flexural strength of the cutting portion. A medical suture needle is made of austenite stainless steel having a structure that is elongated in fiber form, and has a cutting portion and a body portion with a triangular cross-sectional shape that is continuous with said cutting portion. The cutting portion has cutting edges, at least one surface of which is formed by a pressed surface, and which are formed by the intersection of said pressed surface with two sharpened surfaces, and a cutting edge that is formed by the intersection of the two sharpened surfaces. The tip where the various cutting edges and converge is positioned in the center of the pressed surface. Moreover, the cutting edges formed by the intersection of the above pressed surface with the two sharpened surfaces are longer than the cutting edge that is formed by the intersection of the two sharpened surfaces.

Medical suture needle

A bending method for a straight needle-shaped material which has a thickness decreased from a body portion to a needle point that is inserted between a roller having a processing surface and a belt and is wound around the roller via a separating member. Then the roller is rotated and the belt is wound, thereby pressing and curving the straight needle-shaped material onto the processing surface. In a suture needle, a portion of a tip side including the needle point is formed as a non-restricted portion which is not restricted by the processing surface of the roller, and a portion except for the non-restricted portion is formed as a curved portion which is bent along the processing surface of the roller.

Suturing needle

A triangular suture needle having a low thrust resistance and a press mold suitable for manufacturing the same are provided. The triangular suture needle includes: an angular triangular prism-shaped part () on the needlepoint side; a rounded triangular prism-shaped part () connecting to the needle base side of said triangular prism-shaped part; and a thread attaching part () in a needle base end. The entire angular triangular prism-shaped part () is ground, forming a pointed, sharpened part () with a sharp tip. Furthermore, width (w) of the thickest portion of the sharpened part () is greater than width (w) of the rounded triangular prism-shaped part connecting to that portion.

A suture guide used for inserting a suture into a hole of an eyeless needle positioned between an upper guide and a lower guide. This suture guide comprises a first guide member having a certain plane and the second guide member having a first plane positioned lower than the plane of the first guide member and a second plane crossing the first plane, This suture guide also has fixing means combining the first guide member and the second member together to form a guide having a guiding corner with the plane of the first guide member and the second plane of the second member and the guide disposed next to the lower mold to face the guiding corner to the hole of the eyeless needle. A positioning mechanism of a suture guide for inserting a suture into a hole of an eyeless needle positioned between an upper guide and a lower guide is desirable for the suture guide. This mechanism comprises an arm for holding the suture guide via moving member and a swing pin disposed apart from the lower mold and perpendicular to a moving plane of the upper mold. The arm is attached to the swing pin as to swing along a side face of the lower mold to a desirable position.

There are disclosed a method of and apparatus for grinding an elongated material for a suture needle. An elongated grinding tape is reciprocally moved in its longitudinal direction, and simultaneously the material is pressed against the grinding tape in such a manner that the material is disposed substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the grinding tape and is inclined relative to one face of the grinding tape, thereby grinding the material to form a cutting edge on at least one side edge of a grounded surface of the material. The grinding apparatus includes a mechanism for reciprocally moving the grinding tape in opposite directions along the longitudinal direction of the grinding tape, a mechanism for transferring the grinding tape in a predetermined one of the opposite directions along the longitudinal direction of the grinding tape, a tape support member, and a mechanism for supporting the material and for pressing the material against that portion of the grinding tape positioned at a support surface of the tape support member. A suture needle includes at least one ground surface, and a pair of cutting edges formed respectively on opposite side edges of the ground surface. The ground surface has grinding traces which extend perpendicular to an axis of the suture needle, and the pair of cutting edges are in generally the same condition from a microscopic point of view.

In the production of a suture needle, a distal end portion of an elongated material is ground into a generally quadrangular pyramid shape. Then, the distal end portion of the elongated material is further ground into a generally triangular-pyramid shape, so that the distal or foremost end of the elongated material is positively pointed. The suture needle has four main surfaces and an auxiliary surface. The above triangular-pyramid shape is defined by two of the main surfaces and the auxiliary surface.

In a manufacturing apparatus, a rotational support arrangement is provided for supporting the needle and pipe members in such a manner that end faces of the respective needle and pipe members are abutted against each other at a location coincident with an optical axis of the laser beam, and for rotating the needle and pipe members about their respective axes.
