An aluminum nitride plate satisfies both of a 'relation 1: c1>97.5%' and a “relation 2: c2/c1<0.995” where c1 is a c-plane degree of orientation that is defined as a ratio of a diffraction intensity of (002) plane to a sum of the diffraction intensity of (002) plane and a diffraction intensity of (100) plane when the surface layer of the aluminum nitride plate is subjected to an X-ray diffraction measurement, and c2 is a c-plane degree of (002) plane to the sum of the diffraction intensity of (002) plane and the diffraction intensity of (100) plane when a portion other than the surface layer of the aluminum nitride plate is subjected to the X-ray diffraction. Moreover, in the aluminum nitride plate, a difference in nitrogen content between the surface layer and the portion other than the surface layer is less than 0.15% in weight ratio.

An aluminum nitride plate satisfies a 'c1&#x3e;97.5%', a 'c2&#x3e;97.0%', a &#x201c;w1&#x3c;2.5 degrees&#x201d;, and a &#x201c;w1/w2&#x3c;0.995&#x201d; where c1 is a c-plane degree of orientation that is defined as a ratio of a diffraction intensity of (002) plane when a surface layer of the aluminum nitride plate is subjected to an X-ray diffraction measurement, and c2 is a c-plane degree of orientation that is defined as a ratio of the diffraction intensity of (002) plane when a portion other than the surface layer of the aluminum nitride plate is subjected to the X-ray diffraction measurement, wherein w1 is a half-value width in an X-ray rocking curve profile of (102) plane of the surface layer and w2 is a half-value width in the X-ray rocking curve profile of (102) plane of the portion other than the surface layer.

Aluminum nitride particles used as a material of an aluminum nitride sintered compact are disclosed. The aluminum nitride particles may have a same crystal orientation. The aluminum nitride particles each have an aspect ratio of 3 or more, a plate-like shape, a planar length of 0.6 &#x3bc;m or more and 20 &#x3bc;m or less, and a thickness length of 0.05 &#x3bc;m or more and 2 &#x3bc;m or less.

An optic converts wavelength of light from a light source. The optic includes a first substrate and a second substrate. The first substrate includes a fluorescent material substrate. The second substrate supports the first substrate. The second substrate includes a translucent substrate to receive the light from the light source through the first substrate. A method for producing an oriented AlN sintered body includes a first step of preparing a formed body by forming a mixture obtained by mixing a sintering aid with an AlN raw-material powder containing a plate-like AlN powder whose plate surface is a c-plane and which has an aspect ratio of 3 or more and an average thickness of 0.05 to 1.8 &#x3bc;m, wherein the mixture is formed such that the plate surface of the plate-like AlN powder is disposed along a surface of the formed body; and a second step of obtaining an oriented AlN sintered body by subjecting the formed body to hot-press sintering in a non-oxidizing atmosphere while applying a pressure to the surface of the formed body.

Oriented ALN sintered body and method for producing the same

In a first step of a method for producing a transparent AlN sintered body, first, a formed body is prepared by forming a mixture obtained by mixing a sintering aid with an AlN raw-material powder containing a plate-like AlN powder whose plate surface is a c-plane and which has an aspect ratio of 3 or more. At this time, the mixture is formed such that the plate surface of the plate-like AlN powder is disposed along a surface of the formed body. In a second step, an oriented AlN sintered body is obtained by subjecting the formed body to hot-press sintering in a non-oxidizing atmosphere while applying a pressure to the surface of the formed body. In a third step, a transparent AlN sintered body is obtained by sintering the oriented AlN sintered body at normal pressure in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to remove a component derived from the sintering aid.

A composite body of the present invention includes a base and an oxide layer arranged on the base, the oxide layer containing more than 45% by volume of a perovskite-type oxide phase. The composite body may include a first member, a second member, and a joining portion that joins the first member and the second member, at least one of the first member and the second member serving as the base, and the joining portion serving as the oxide layer. The composite body may include the base and a covering portion that covers the whole or part of a surface of the base, the covering portion being formed of the oxide layer.

A heater includes: a plate-like first heater substrate; an electrical heating wire that is provided on a first surface of the first heater substrate in a parallel circuit; electrodes that are connected to the electrical heating wire to allow current to flow in the electrical heating wire; and a plate-like cover substrate that covers the first surface of the first heater substrate, the electrical heating wire, and the electrodes with a second surface thereof. The electrical heating wire of the heater generates heat, so that the amount of heat is supplied. A heat-resistant member according to the present invention includes a member to be protected and a metal oxide ceramic protective layer which is disposed on part of or all surfaces of the member to be protected and which has a porosity of 0 percent by volume or more and 5 percent by volume or less. This heat-resistant member is produced through the step of forming a protective layer by firing a member to be protected provided with a metal raw material in the air in a temperature range lower than the melting point of an oxide of the metal raw material to form a metal oxide ceramic protective layer having a porosity of 0 percent by volume or more and 5 percent by volume or less on part of or all surfaces of the member to be protected.

A joined bodyincludes a porous ceramicmade of porous ceramic, a metal membermade of a metal, and a jointformed of an oxide ceramic that penetrates into poresof the porous ceramicand joins the porous ceramicto the metal member. The penetration depth of the oxide ceramic into the pores of the porous ceramic is preferably 10 &#x3bc;m or more, and more preferably 15 to 50 &#x3bc;m. The joined bodymay be produced through a joining step of forming a joint by placing a metal raw material between a porous ceramic and a metal member and firing the metal raw material in the air at a temperature in the range of 400&#xb0; C. to 900&#xb0; C., where an oxide ceramic produced by oxidation of the metal raw material penetrates into the pores of the porous ceramic in the joint.

A composite body including a substrate and a forming portion which is composed of a composite phase containing a perovskite oxide and a metal oxide different from the perovskite oxide and which is formed on the substrate. The composite body may be a composite body manufactured by a manufacturing method including a forming step of firing in an oxidizing atmosphere, a laminated body in which an inorganic raw material powder containing a compound powder and a metal powder is disposed on a substrate so as to form a forming portion composed of a composite phase containing a perovskite oxide and a metal oxide different from the perovskite oxide on the substrate.
