A dieting agent is disclosed which comprises an aqueous solution or a solid substance of a concentration .alpha.-amylase inhibiting substance which is produced by a process which comprises heat treating a supernatant fraction of an aqueous extract of wheat or wheat flour to modify unnecessary protein contaminants in the supernatant fraction, removing a modified protein from said fraction, subjecting a resulting aqueous solution containing an .alpha.-amylase inhibiting substance to a concentration treatment using an ultrafiltration membrane to form an aqueous solution of a concentrated .alpha.-amylase inhibiting substance or drying the aqueous solution. The dieting agent exhibits a body weight gain-inhibiting effect.

4(3H)-Quinazolinone derivative of formula (I) are provided. ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group, an aryl group, a substituted aryl group, or an aralkyl group; R.sub.2 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkylamino group, a phenyl group, a substituted phenyl group, or a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic group containing one or more N, O or S as a hetero atom or atoms, said heterocyclic group optionally being substituted or fused with a benzene ring; n is 1 or 2; or R.sub.2 represents a geranyl group or a dipyridylmethyl group together with the group --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --; and X is a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group or a halogen atom, and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof. They are useful as antiucler agents.

4(3H)-quinazolinone derivatives and pharmaceutical compositions

Quinoxaline derivatives of formula (I) are provided. ##STR1## wherein A is a hydrogen atom or 2-quinoxalyl group, B is 2-pyridyl or 4-quinolyl group and n is 0 or 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof. They are useful as antiulcer agents.

Quinoxaline derivatives and antiulcer agents

2-Pyridylmethylthio derivatives of formula (I) are provided. ##STR1## wherein A represents 4-methyl-2-quinazolinyl, 4-(2-pyridylmethylthio)-1-phthalazinyl or 4-oxo-3-phenyl-3,4-dihydropyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2-yl, or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof. They are useful as antiulcer agents.

2-pyridylmethylthio derivatives as antiulcer agents

Compounds are described of formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a dialkylamino group or a halogen atom; n is 1 to 4; R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an unsubstituted or substituted aminoalkyl group, an acyl group, an unsubstituted or substituted aralkyl group, a carboxyalkyl group, an alkoxycarbonyalkyl group or ##STR2## wherein X is an unsubstituted or substituted-phenyl, -benzyl, -benzoyl or -furoyl group; A is -NR.sup.3 - where R.sup.3 is hydrogen or alkyl, an alkylene or an alkylidene; and B is a heterocyclic group selected from triazolyl, pyridyl, pyridazinyl, pyrimidinyl, pyrazinyl, benzimidazolyl, benzothiazolyl, quinolyl and isoquinolyl, said heterocyclic group being optionally substituted by one or more alkyl, alkoxy, nitro or phenyl group, and the physiologically acceptable acid addition salts thereof. The compound of formula (I) are or cardiotonic activity and thus may be useful for the treatment of circulatory diseases.

Benzimidazole derivatives

Compounds are described of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a nitro or trifluoromethyl group; R.sub.2 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group; R.sub.3 is a pyridyl or pyridyl N-oxide group which may be substituted with halogen, hydroxyl, haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl and further may be fused with a benzene or naphthalene ring, said ring being optionally substituted with C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy, halogen or haloalkyl, and a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof. The compounds of the formula (I) are of vasodilating and blood pressure lowering activities and thus may be useful for the treatment of cardiac diseases, cerebrovascular diseases and hypertension.

1,4-Dihydropyridine derivatives and pharmaceutical compositions

4(3H)-Quinazolinone derivatives of formula (I) are provided. ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group, an aryl group, a substituted aryl group, or an aralkyl group; R.sub.2 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkylamino group, a phenyl group, a substituted phenyl group, or a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic group containing one or more N, O or S as a hetero atom or atoms, said heterocyclic group optionally being substituted or fused with a benzene ring; n is 1 or 2; or R.sub.2 represents a geranyl group or a dipyridylmethyl group together with the group --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --; and X is a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group or a halogen atom, and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof. They are useful as antiulcer agents.

2-Alkylsulfinyl-4(3H)-quinazolinone derivatives of formula (I) are provided. ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group, an aryl group, a substituted aryl group or an aralkyl group, R.sub.2 is a phenyl group, a substituted phenyl group or a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic group containing one or more N, O or S as a hetero atom or atoms, said heterocyclic group optionally being substituted or fused with a benzene ring, n is 1 or 2 and X is hydrogen, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group or a halogen atom, and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof. They are useful as antiulcer agents.

2-Alkylsulfinyl-4(3H)-quinazolinone derivatives and pharmaceutical

4-Thioquinazoline derivatives of formula (I) are provided. ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkylamino group, a phenyl group, a substituted phenyl group or a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic group containing one or two N, O or S as a hetero atom or atoms, said heterocyclic group optionally being substituted or fused with a benzene ring; n is 1 or 2; or R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group, and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof. They are useful as antiulcer agents.

4-Thioquinazoline derivatives as antiulcer agents

2,6-Dimethyl-4-(2- or 3-substituted phenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid diesters, having vasodilating and blood pressure lowering effects, in the ester moiety at the 3-position of which a heterocyclic group is linked to an alkylene group through an ester bond (carbonyloxy group). The diesters are used for treatment of cardiac diseases, cerebrovascular diseases and hypertension.

1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives, and pharmaceutical compositions

Four different optical isomers of a new compound, 1-[2'-(o-methoxyphenoxy)-1'-methylethylamino]-3-(4'-isocarbostyriloxy)-2-p ropanol are now provided as new substances. These four optical isomers are now named as (2R, 1'S)-1-[2'-(o-methoxyphenoxy)-1'-methylethylamino]-3-(4'-isocarbostyriloxy )-2-propanol, (2S, 1'S)-1-[2'-(o-methoxyphenoxy)-1'-methylethylamino]-3-(4'-isocarbostyriloxy )-2-propanol, (2S, 1'R)-1-[2'-(o-methoxyphenoxy)-1'-methylethylamino]-3-(4'-isocarbostyriloxy )-2-propanol, and (2R, 1'R)-1-[2'-(o-methoxyphenoxy)-1'-methylethylamino]-3-(4'-isocarbostyriloxy )-2-propanol, respectively. These four optical isomers have different activities for their .beta.-adrenergic-blocking effect and .alpha.-adrenergic-blocking effect and are useful as valuable agents for therapeutic treatment of various cardiovascular diseases, as compared to an optically inactive racemic mixture of said isomer compounds. These four optical isomers may be produced and isolated from each other by chromatographing (1'S)- or (1'R)-N-[2'-(o-methoxyphenoxy)-1'-methylethyl]-5-(4'-isocarbostyriloxymeth yl)-2-oxazolidones to isolate either its (5R, 1'S)-isomer and its (5S, 1'S)-isomer, or its (5S, 1'R)-isomer and its (5R, 1'R)-isomer therefrom separately and then hydrolyzing each of these isolated isomers under alkaline conditions to obtain separately (2R, 1'S)-, (2S, 1'S)-, (2S, 1'R)- and (2R, 1'R)-1-[2'-(o-methoxyphenoxy)-1'-methylethylamino]-3-(4'-isocarbostyriloxy )-2-propanols.

Optically active isocarbostyril derivatives and a method of preparing

Compounds of the formula R.sub.1 --CO--NH.sub.2 wherein R.sub.1 is ##STR1## are described. The compounds are useful in the treatment of hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

Isoprenylic acid amide derivatives

Compounds of the structure ##STR1## wherein X, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, and R.sub.5 are as herein defined, effective as .beta.-blockers and hypotensive agents, are described.

Isocarbostyril derivatives

Isocarbostyrils of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is a branched alkyl of 3 to 4 carbon atoms, and the acid addition salts thereof, having .beta.-adrenergic blocking activity, are described.

Isocarbostyril derivative

Isocarbostyrils of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a lower alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, same or different, individually means hydrogen or an alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl group provided at least either one of R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 should not be hydrogen, or R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 together with the adjacent nitrogen atom may form a heterocyclic ring, having anti-arrhythmic activity and low toxicity are prepared by reacting a 4-substituted isocarbostyril derivative of the formula ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 is the same as defined above and R.sub.2 represents ##STR3## or its functional equivalent, e.g. --Ch.sub.2 --CH(OH)CH.sub.2 X in which X represents a halogen atom, with an alkyl amine of the general formula ##STR4## wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are same as defined above..
