Ocular lenses having UV absorbing properties are disclosed. The ocular lens comprises a hydrogel polymer comprising polymerised residues derived from a polymerisable UV absorber of formula (I):U-L-Py  (I)wherein: U is a UV absorbing moiety; L is a hydrophilic non-polyalkylene glycol linker comprising an anionic, a zwitterionic or a saccharide moiety; and Py is an ethylenically unsaturated polymerisable moiety.

It is an objective of the present invention to provide a polymer compound as constituent component a polymerizable triptycene derivative and that has a structure in which three benzene rings arranged at the axis formed by barrelene of the triptycene skeleton can rotate evenly and that has hydrophilicity imparted to it as compared to any of the prior art triptycene derivatives and is thus highly useful in functional materials. The above objective is achieved by the polymerizable triptycene derivative and a polymer compound as constituent component thereof having substituents with an unsaturated bonding functional group at position 9 and/or position 10 of the triptycene skeleton, the polymerizable triptycene derivative having two carboxyl groups and the polymerizable triptycene derivative having one carboxyl group and one amino group.

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a polymer gel that can increase drug content ratio and reduce undesirable influence on gel strength and shape stability after the drug release, compared with the conventional techniques. The purpose can be achieved by an anionic drug-containing medical device comprising: (1) an anionic drug; and (2) a copolymer which contains, as constituents, a cationic monomer comprising a condensation product of an alkyl quaternary ammonium compound having a substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group and (meth)acrylic acid or a salt of the condensation product and a monomer capable of copolymerizing with the condensation product or the salt of the condensation product.

The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a functional polymer gel which is able to be practically used as an ocular lens having excellent transparency and mechanical strength by uniformly dispersing organic nanotubes in a polymer gel without the formation of agglomerates of the organic nanotubes in the case where the organic nanotubes are complexed into the polymer gel; and a method for producing this functional polymer gel.
