The present invention aims to provide a highly safe composition that can be used for improving or maintaining mitochondrial function and/or mitochondrial energy production capacity or reducing a decline in mitochondrial function and/or mitochondrial energy production capacity and that allows easy intake and continuous ingestion without risk of side effects. The present invention also aims to provide, for example a method of improving or maintaining mitochondrial function and/or mitochondrial energy production capacity or reducing a decline in mitochondrial function and/or mitochondrial energy production capacity. The present invention relates to, for example, a composition containing at least one sesamin-class compound and pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) or a salt thereof.

Composition containing sesamin and PQQ

The object of the present invention is to provide a composition that has preventive or ameliorative action on symptoms or diseases caused by decreased brain function. This composition contains, as its active ingredient, arachidonic acid and/or a compound having arachidonic acid as a constituent fatty acid and, particularly, an alcohol ester of arachidonic acid or a triglyceride, phospholipid or glycolipid in which all or a portion of the constituent fatty acids are arachidonic acid.

The present invention relates to a composition containing riboflavin and a sesamin-class compound(s). This composition may incorporate a sesamin-class compound(s) in such an amount that the proportion (weight ratio) of its total quantity to the total quantity of riboflavin taken as unity is no more than 4.5, and it has the advantage that the analgesic and anti-fatigue actions of riboflavin are synergistically improved by ingestion of riboflavin in combination with a sesamin-class compound(s). The composition of the present invention provides compositions, in particular, pharmaceuticals as well as foods and beverages that are safe to humans, animals, etc., and can therefore be ingested for a continued period, and which have far superior effects to those of conventional foods having an analgesic or anti-fatigue action.

A method by which the physiological activities of sesamin-class compounds can be efficiently exhibited and enhanced, as well as an effective compound that can be combined with the sesamin-class compounds to this end. By using sesamin-class compounds in combination with more than specified proportions of arachidonic acid class compounds, the physiological activities of the sesamin-class compounds, for example, their anti-fatigue action is synergistically enhanced to provide compositions that are safe in humans and non-human animals and which hence can be ingested continuously.
