A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device including a display panel provided with a first substrate, a second substrate, and liquid crystal, the method comprises: a first irradiation step of irradiating first positions of a first glass plate and a second glass plate with a laser beam having first irradiation energy; a second irradiation step of irradiating second positions of the first glass plate and the second glass plate with the laser beam having second irradiation energy higher than the first irradiation energy; and an etching step of exposing the display panel to an etching solution after the first irradiation step and the second irradiation step, such that the first positions are not cleaved, the second positions are cleaved, and at least a part of an outer periphery of each of the first substrate and the second substrate is formed.

Method for manufacturing liquid crystal display device and liquid crystal display device

An etching resist including first and second portions, the first portion being thicker than the second portion, is formed on a metallic layer. Through the etching resist, a semiconductor layer and the metallic layer are patterned by etching so as to form a wiring from the metallic layer and leave the semiconductor layer under the wiring. An electrical test is conducted on the wiring. The second portion is removed while the first portion is left unremoved. Selective etching is performed through the first portion so as to leave the semiconductor layer unetched to pattern the wiring to be divided into drain and source electrodes. A substrate is cut. In patterning the wiring, the wiring is etched to be cut at a position closer to a cutting line of the substrate with respect to the drain and source electrodes, while leaving the semiconductor layer unetched.

Display device and manufacturing method thereof

A liquid crystal display device includes a TFT substrate, a facing substrate and liquid crystal sandwiched therebetween. First pixels for displaying a first color according to a first color filter, second pixels for displaying a second color according a second color filter and third pixels for displaying a third color according to a third color filter are aligned in a longitudinal direction on the facing substrate, respectively. The first color filters, the second color filters, and the third color filters extend in stripes in the longitudinal direction so as to cover the first, second and third pixels, respectively. First spacers are formed between the first pixels by layering a number of color filters, including the first color filters, and second spacers are formed of a number of color filters, including the second color filters, between the second pixels. The first color filters which are formed between the second pixels are circular in plan view.

Liquid crystal display device

A panel for a liquid crystal display device includes: a first mother substrate for cutting out color filter substrates including a first cell area corresponding to a first cell and a second cell area corresponding to a second cell therefrom; a first colored layer arranged in the first cell area of the first mother substrate; a second colored layer arranged in the second cell area of the first mother substrate; a second mother substrate for cutting out array substrates therefrom; and liquid crystal sandwiched between the first mother substrate and the second mother substrate. The first colored layer and the second colored layer are made of the same material and have portions which have the same thickness. A hole is formed in the second colored layer so as to make color reproducibility of the second colored layer lower than color reproducibility of the first colored layer.

Panel for liquid crystal display device

An object of the present invention is to form spacers for defining the space between the TFT substrate and the facing substrate of color filters, and by doing so, finely control the height of the spacers. First spacersare formed of green color filters G in pillar form on top of red color filters R and blue color filters B (green color filters G) having a large area between blue pixels BP; second spacersare formed by layering blue color filters B (green color filters G) and green color filters G having a large area on top of red color filters R in pillar form between green pixels GP; and the second spacersare shorter than the first spacersdue to the leveling effects of the layered blue color filters B (green color filters G) and green color filters G.

The present invention suppresses the spreading by wetting of an orientation film of a liquid crystal display panel outside a display region and, at the same time, maintains the uniformity of film thickness of the orientation film within a display region. In a liquid crystal display device which includes a display panel which arranges a sealing material having an annular shape between a pair of substrates, seals a liquid crystal material in a space surrounded by the pair of substrates and the sealing material, the pair of substrates form orientation films on surfaces thereof opposite to surfaces thereof which face each other, the orientation films are brought into contact with transparent electrodes which are formed on surfaces of transparent substrates by way of insulation layers, at least one substrate out of the pair of substrates includes an elongated groove portion which extends in the direction along an outer periphery of the display region in a substantially annular region which is arranged inside a region where the sealing material is arranged and outside the display region, and the groove portion is formed of recessed grooves which are formed in the insulation layer and an ITO film which extends along side surfaces and bottom surfaces of the recessed grooves.

The present invention realizes an image display of high quality by eliminating a defective display which is attributed to a stepped portion of a light shielding film which is generated in a boundary region by exposure of two or more times using an exposure mask having a size smaller than a size of a display region. Assuming a width of a scanning line GL as W, a width of a common line CL as W, an interval between the scanning line GL and the common line CL as W, and a width of a light shielding film BMas W, the relationship W&#x3c;W+W+Wis established. Further, both end peripheries of the light shielding film BMare positioned between an end periphery of the scanning line GL at a side opposite to the common line CL and an end periphery of the common line CL at a side opposite to the scanning line GL.
