A sealed prismatic battery according to the present invention comprises a laterally long cap sealing an opening of an upper surface of a battery can and a safety vent placed on the cap and having a thin-walled valve body which opens in an abnormal rise of a battery internal pressure. The safety vent has an oval-shaped circumferential groove formed inside an oval-shaped coining section provided on an outer surface of the cap and on one end side in a lateral direction of the cap and a thin-walled valve body surrounded thereby, and the oval-shaped circumferential groove is composed of lateral side sections parallel to the lateral direction of the cap and circular arc sections connecting these lateral side sections, with one lateral side section, other lateral side section, and the thin-walled valve body of the safety vent respectively having a thickness increased in this order.

Sealed prismatic battery

There is provided a sealed prismatic battery having an opening vent excellent in reliability with use of a deformed state of a battery casing on occasion of abnormal increase in internal pressure of the battery. The battery casing is shaped like an oval quadrangle having a width in a direction of thickness smaller than a height in a longitudinal direction and a length in a lateral direction, and side walls of the casing that face in the lateral direction swell outward in the lateral direction so as to form circular-arc shapes in general. The opening vent is composed of a groove formed as a recess on the side wall. A distances from the upper end of the battery casing to the groove is set between 3 and 20% of the longitudinal height of the battery casing.

A sealed rectangular battery having a reliably operative explosion-proof valve is provided. A rectangular battery casewhose cross-section is oblong, the battery case having a prismatic shaped case bodywith a bottom and a lid. An explosion-proof valveis arranged near one of two opposing short sides of a main surface wall of the lid. The explosion-proof valve a V-cut grooveconcavely formed in V-shaped or U-shaped in which a central bent partis positioned at a central location in the main surface wallof the lid, and a thin wallformed by the V-cut groove. Cut groovesconnecting each of two ends of the V-cut groove and each of two long sides of the main surface wall of the lid which are parallel to each other, respectively, are cut and formed in the main surface wall of the lid.

Sealed rectangular battery

A lidthat closes the upper surface of the opening of a closed-bottom prismatic tubular battery can, an electrode bodyaccommodated in the battery can, a negative terminalpenetratively fastened to the lid, an insulating plateplaced on the lower surface side of the lid, a lead plateplaced on the lower surface side of the insulating plate, and a negative electrode current collector leadled upwardly of the electrode bodyare included. The upper end portion of the current collector leadis welded to the lower surface of the lead plateand bent in a position located rather closer to the front wall of the battery can. The insulating platehas a lid side insulating portionheld between the lidand the lead plateand a front sidewallthat extends downwardly from the front end side of the lid side insulating portion. In a free state before the battery is assembled, the lid side insulating portionand the sidewallof the insulating plateextend roughly straightly.

A sealed prismatic battery is provided. The battery includes a battery casinghaving a prismatic cylindrical shape of body with a bottom part and an upper opening, and a lidwhich fits in the upper opening of the battery casing. The opening of the casing bodyand the lidhave laterally long shape in which the back-and-forth width dimension is smaller than the lateral length. The outer periphery of the lidbeing welded to the periphery of the upper opening of the battery casingto form a welded portion. The welded portion includes a pair of fragile partshaving low weld strength and formed at the ends of two long sidesandof the welded portion which are parallel to each other, respectively, The battery is appropriately prevented from exploding and strength of battery is sufficiently provided against an impact caused by fall or the like.

A battery canis composed of a can bodyhaving a concave portionfor accommodating an electrode body, and a metal coverfor sealing an opening end of the concave portionof the can body. The can bodyis formed in a plate shape by subjecting a metal plate to shallow drawing. A flangeis provided at a peripheral edge portion of the opening end of the can body, which is bonded to be integrated with the metal coverto keep an air-tight and liquid-tight state in the concave portion

A battery provided with one end of each lead element connected to the positive and negative electrode respectively is drawn out from the can bodythrough a spaceformed at a surface part of said jointed flange sectionand the area of the flange section around the drawing space is sealed by a resin bonding. The battery provided with a new structure which can solve the problems which may be generated in all fields, such as battery shape, attachment property, battery strength, productivity and so on in order to make a thin type battery.
