The disk drive apparatus of the present invention has an optical pickup that jumps a track to perform track jumping when a jumping voltage is impressed, and that traces a track by performing brake operation when a braking voltage is applied, and actuator that drives the optical pickup, a signal processing part that performs focus and tracking control with respect to the optical pickup, a movement time measurement part that measures the movement time when a light beam emitted from the optical pickup is moved to cross a track to a required track, a voltage control part that uses the results of measurement to generate parameters and a voltage value that is applied to the actuator, a storage part that stores voltage value that is generated by the voltage value setting part, and that after a disk is loaded, first stores data of that disk in the storage part and uses those data values according to the track jump operation.

Track jump control means for a disk apparatus

A recording device for recording information upon optically modulated overwritable magneto-optical recording medium including four magnetic layers first records DC '1' and then a test signal at high and low recording laser power levels upon a test track of the recording medium. The high and low recording laser power levels are successively modified to scan a two-dimensional region of the high and low recording laser power levels, and the optimal high and low recording laser power levels are determined on the basis of the reproduction signal levels corresponding to respective combination of high and low recording laser power levers. The reproduction signal levels are represented upon the .alpha.-K plane which is divided into six characteristic regions, The optimal combination of high and low recording laser power levels is determined as a representative point within the region of correct reproduction with a predetermined allowance.

Optically modulated overwritable recording device

An optical disk drive for recording and reproducing information on an optical disk medium includes a servo circuit for controlling tracking of a light beam on a predetermined track and a servo circuit for controlling focus of the light beam on the disk surface. The disk surface is divided into a plurality of regions, and calibration values for adjusting the servo circuits are determined in each region. The calibration values are stored in a memory and are used to adjust the servo circuits during tracking on a predetermined track. The calibration values include tracking offset values, focus offset values, servo deviation threshold values and sensor gain values. A number of techniques are disclosed for automatically determining the calibration values.

Techniques for controlling beam position and focus in optical disk drives

An optical disc having a plurality of information tracks, each information track having a servo field including a pair of wobbled pits and a clock pit. The distance between one of the wobbled pits and the clock pit in each servo field is selected such that the optical disc includes at least three different types of servo field. These differnt types of servo field appear in a predetermined sequence for every one or more contiguous information tracks. A driving apparatus for driving such an optical disc has a direction detecting circuit for detecting the moving velocity of a movable portion of an optical head, and a speed detecting circuit for detecting the relative velocity of the movable portion.

An optical disc having a plurality of information tracks. Each information track having a data field including multiple data bytes and a servo field including a first servo byte having a pair of wobbled pits and a second servo byte having a clock pit. The byte length of at least one of the first or second servo bytes being longer than the byte lengths of the data bytes. The increased byte length providing for greater distance between the wobbled pits and the clock pit resulting in increased reliability in clock pit detection. An accessing apparatus for accessing such an optical disc including a phase-locked loop circuit with a frequency dividing ratio that varies in accordance with the various byte lengths.

An apparatus in accordance with the present invention sequentially fixes the wavelength of a light beam irradiated from a light source whose oscillation wavelength sequentially varies to a plurality of different wavelengths to a recording medium to required wavelengths each capable of forming a hole at absorption spectrum of the recording medium, synchronizes timing of change of the wavelength of the light source with timing of recording or regenerating each bit of information, records the optical hole formed in a manner that each bit of information corresponds to the wavelength varying in sequence, and detects the formed hole to regenerate information. Furthermore, the holes formed by the same wavelength are recorded at the positions separated by a distance capable of avoiding interference, while the holes formed by different wavelengths in correspondence to each bit of information are recorded at nearly the same position while that position is slightly displaced at a time, and thereby information is multiple-recorded with high density.

Frequency selective optical data record/regenerate apparatus

The present invention relates to apparatus and method for decoding a signal reproduced from an optical disc. The optical disc has a signal format for recording data from an original signal in a data area at the optical disc. The optical disc also has recorded thereon a clock signal having the same phase as the recorded data. During reproduction of the recorded signal from the optical disc, this clock signal is utilized to generate a delayed version of the reproduced data signal. This delayed signal is used to decode the reproduced data signal obtained from the optical disc, thereby enabling a phase shift of the reproduced clock signal to there produced data signal to be eliminated by circuit processing. During the recording on the data area of the optical disc, fixing data for setting phases of data reproducing recording clock and reproducing signal to optimum phases for decoding is recorded. A phase corrector is provided at the optical disc driving apparatus so as to delay the fixing data signal reproduced from the optical disc, whereby a phase shift between the reproduced data signal and the reproduced clock signal can be corrected to an optimum quantity and the data signal at a preformatted area of the optical disc can be reproduced without delay.
