In a modem pooling system for enabling selective connection of a plurality of data terminal units 5.sub.1 to 5.sub.n to a modem 9, each of the data terminal units 5.sub.1 to 5.sub.n is detected as to whether active or inactive; one data terminal (e.g. 5.sub.1) is selected as a responsive terminal unit from among the data terminal units determined to be active in accordance with a predetermined priority order; and the modem 9 is connected to the selected responsive terminal unit (e.g. 5.sub.1), prior to an incoming call response of the modem 9.

Modem pooling system

In a key telephone system in which a plurality of data terminals 371 . . . 37n such as personal computers are connected to a key service unit 1 connected to a plurality of telephone lines 251 . . . 25m, a modem 43 is pooled so as to be usable in common for the plural data terminals 371 . . . 37n. In response to a called party number signal from the Telephone line (e.g. 251), the key service unit 1 selects a single data terminal among the data terminals 371 . . . 37n now being in standby status, and closes a communication channel between the selected data terminal (e g 371) and the modem 43, so that a status equivalent to that where the selected data terminal 371 and the modem 43 are directly connected to each other can be established. Thereafter, the key service unit 1 indicates a called party number signal reception to the modem 43, and the modem 43 transmits a call to the selected data terminal 371. When the selected data terminal 371 responds to the call from this modem 43, the key service unit 1 closes a communication channel between the modem 43 and the telephone line 251, so that a communication link between the selected data terminal 371 and the telephone line 251 can be established via the modem 43. During the process until this communication link can be established, since the selected data terminal 371 and the modem 43 are in the status equivalent to direct coupling, the key service unit 1 is not concerned in the communications between the selected data terminal 371 and thus modem 43, thus reducing the operational load applied to the key service unit 1.

In a key telephone system in which a plurality of data terminals 37l . . . 37n such as personal computers are connected to a key service unit 1 connected to a plurality of telephone lines 25l . . . 25m, a modem 43 is pooled so as to be usable in common for the plural data terminals 37l . . . 37n. In response to a called party number signal from the telephone lines (e.g. 25l) in dial-in service, the key service unit 1 selects a single data terminal designated by an extension telephone designation signal in dial-in service from among the data terminals 37l . . . 37n, and closes a communication channel between the selected data terminal (e.g. 37l) and the modem 43, so that a status equivalent to that where the selected data terminal 37l and the modem 43 are directly connected to each other can be established. Thereafter, the key service unit 1 indicates a called party number signal reception to the modem 43, and the modem 43 transmits a call to the selected data terminal 37l. When the selected data terminal 37l responds to the call from this modem 43, the key service unit 1 closes a communication channel between the modem 43 and the telephone line 25l, so that a communication link between the selected data terminal 37l and the telephone line 25l can be established via the modem 43. In a key telephone system in which a plurality of data terminals 37l . . . 37n such as personal computers are connected to a key service unit 1 connected to a plurality of ISDNs 23l . . . 23m, a terminal adapter (TA) 41 is pooled so as to be usable in common for the plural data terminals 37l . . . 37n. In response to a setup signal from an ISDN (e.g. 23l), the key service unit 1 selects a single data terminal designated by a subaddress included in the setup signal from among the data terminals 37l . . . 37n, and closes a communication channel between the selected data terminal (e.g. 37l) and the TA 41, so that a status equivalent to that where the selected data terminal 37l and the TA 41 are directly connected to each other can be established. Thereafter, the key service unit 1 transmits a setup signal to the TA 41, and the TA 41 transmits a call to the selected data terminal 37l. When the selected data terminal 37l responds to the call from this TA 41, the key service unit 1 closes a communication channel between the TA 41 and the ISDN 25l, so that a communication link between the selected data terminal 37l and the ISDN 23l can be established via the TA 41. During the process until this communication link can be established, since the selected data terminal 37l and the TA 41 are in the status equivalent to direct coupling, the key service unit 1 is not concerned in the communications between the selected data terminal 37l and thus TA 41, thus reducing the operational load applied to the key service unit 1.

Terminal adapter pooling system for ISDN

The telephone system comprises a central or key service unit 1, data terminal units 5.sub.1 to 5.sub.n, and data set circuits of data terminal interface units 27.sub.1 to 27.sub.n for communications between the central unit 1 and the data terminal units 5.sub.1 to 5.sub.n, respectively. The central unit 1 includes a time switch 17 for executing exchange service and a control unit 19 for controlling the time switch 17. Each interface unit 27.sub.1 to 27.sub.n is connected to the time switch 17for communication of communication-data and connected to the control unit 19 for communication of control-data. Each interface unit 27.sub.1 to 27.sub.n enables and disables communication of communication-data between each data terminal 5.sub.1 to 5.sub.n and the time switch 17 in response to predetermined control commands received from each data terminal unit 5.sub.1 to 5.sub.n.

In a modem pooling system for enabling selective connection of a plurality of data terminal units 5.sub.1 to 5n to a modem 9 through an exchange switch 17, when the modem 9 is in standby state, the exchange switch 17 is controlled so that the modem 9 is continuously connected to a data terminal unit (e.g. 5.sub.1) selected in advance as a responsive data unit terminal from among the data terminal units.

In a digital key telephone system through which extension-to-extension calls can be made and incoming calls can be transferred between a master main installation and plural slave main installations, the master and slave main installations are interconnected through digital interface units provided for each installation in order to transmit and receive speech data and control data in digital code between the installations. The digital interface unit of the master main installation first designates an address of the slave main installation to which data are to be transmitted before data transmission, while the digital interface unit of the slave main installation receives data transmitted from the master main installation after address designation. Further, the addresses of the slave main installations can be designated together or separately.

Digital key telephone system

In a key telephone system, when it is impossible to set at a time the entire operation data stored in a memory device of a key station unit by using a key of a specific key telephone set among a plurality of key telephone sets connected to the key station unit, the entire data of respective operation items are divided into a plurality of data sets and then the setting of the data of respective data sets are independently set. The division of the data of respective operation items is made corresponding to the output state of a hook switch, for example.

In a key telephone system, function assignments are made for assignable-function keys by assigning to each key telephone set one of a number of previously-stored patterns of function assignments. Patterns are stored in a memory of the main unit of the key telephone system. Assignment of functions is thereby done more easily, and efficiency of office line use may be improved.

A telephone apparatus having the standard ten digit keys and two special keys, and in the handset the conventional switchhook. By manual operation of the two special keys and the switchhook the apparatus can be operated in any one of a plurality of modes, at least some causing transmission of stored sequences of digits in response to entry of an abbreviated address or in causing redialing. In one mode data signals are produced and transmitted in response to not only the digit keys but also the special keys as well. A method of setting operating data is provided wherein a display, at a predetermined key telephone set, indicates the capabilities of all sets of the system to perform the various functions of which the system's key telephones are capable. The display indicates three conditions: whether all telephones are capable of performing the indicated function, whether no telephones are capable of performing the function, or whether at least one but not all telephones are so capable. The setting of operating data is facilitated by this display. Changes made in operating data are not permanent until a setting key is depressed. Before that, the original operating data may be recovered.

Method of setting operating data in a key telephone system

This system is a key telephone system of a type setting operating data for controlling the operations of respective key telephone sets and the entire system by using the keys of the key telephone sets. This key telephone system has a plurality of key telephone sets and a main unit, and the main unit has first and second memories for storing the operating data. The main unit takes the first mode for operating the system in accordance with the operating data of the first memory and the second mode for setting the operating data. The second memory stores the reference operating data and transfers the data into the first memory as required.

The key telephone system is further provided with a seventh transformer of which the primary winding is connected to the key telephone, and the secondary winding between the center taps of the secondary windings of the first and second transformers and an eighth transformer of which the primary winding is connected between the center taps of the secondary windings of the fourth and fifth transformers and the secondary winding to the key service unit.
