A method for manufacturing a surface-coated cutting insert that includes an insert body having a substrate of tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide, titanium carbonitride-based cermet or ceramics, a base layer, an intermediate layer and an outermost layer. The base layer and the outermost layer are made of a single layer or two or more layers formed of carbides, nitrides, oxides, or borides of one selected from the group consisting of Group IVa metals, Group Va metals, Group VIa metals, aluminum and silicon, or complex compounds thereof, and the intermediate layer is formed of primarily Al2O3. The outermost layer is removed on part of the insert body surface including the flank face and a flank face-side cutting edge portion of the intersecting edge line region, with the outermost layer being left on part of the rake face inside a boundary with the intersecting edge line region.

Surface-coated cutting insert and method for manufacturing the same

A surface-coated cutting insert includes an insert body having a substrate of tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide, titanium carbonitride-based cermet or ceramics, a base layer, an intermediate layer and an outermost layer, the base layer and the outermost layer are made of a single layer or two or more layers formed of carbides, nitrides, oxides, or borides of one selected from the group consisting of Group IVa metals, Group Va metals, Group VIa metals, aluminum and silicon, or complex compounds thereof, and the intermediate layer is formed of primarily AlO, the outermost layer is removed on part of the insert body surface including the flank face and a flank face-side cutting edge portion of the intersecting edge line region, with the outermost layer being left on part of the rake face inside a boundary with the intersecting edge line region. The method for manufacturing this surface-coated cutting insert includes: forming a cutting edge at the intersecting edge line region; coating the surface of the insert body with a base layer, an intermediate layer and an outermost layer; and then removing the outermost layer on part of the surface of the insert body including the flank face and a flank face-side cutting edge portion of the intersecting edge line region, but excluding part of the rake face inside a boundary with the intersecting edge line region.

This method for manufacturing a surface-coated cutting insert includes clamping and holding a surface-coated cutting insert with a pair of rotary shafts which are rotatable around an axis, and jetting an abrasive fluid to the surface of the surface-coated cutting insert using at least one blasting gun while rotating the surface-coated cutting insert, thereby, conducting wet blasting.

Method for manufacturing surface-coated cutting insert

A method for manufacturing a throwaway tip is presented in which a green compact Q obtained by press-forming raw material powder for the throwaway tip is placed and sintered on a sintering plate. The green compact Q is press-formed so that the density of the raw material powder is gradually decreased toward a predetermined direction R, and the direction R is oriented substantially toward the outer circumference of the sintering platein plan view. Thus, it is possible to obtain a throwaway tip having sintering accuracy.

Method for manufacturing throwaway tip and apparatus for aligning green compact

An indexable insert having a tip body formed of a polygonal flat plate. An upper surface of the tip body serves as a rake face, and edges are formed along ridges defined by sides of the rake face. Nose portion edges are formed at corners of the rake face at which the edges adjacent to each other intersect. The nose portion edges each have a rake angle varied between both ends of the nose portion edge.

Indexable insert

The present invention concerns a tungsten carbide base cutting tools formed on sintered hard alloy substrate material. Multiple hard coatings are deposited on the Co-enriched surface layer of the substrate material, and Co-enriched surface layer occurs within a surface layer region that is 50 .mu.m from an interface of said substrate material, wherein the Co content in said surface layer that is 5-10 .mu.m from an interface of said substrate material is within a range from 15-25% by weight; wherein the Co content in said surface layer is more than the Co content in the core, and wherein the content of the carbides of Ti, Ta and Nb is lower than that in the core. The multilayer coating consists of a primary coating of TiCN, a secondary coating of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and the surface coating consisting of at least one of TiCN and TiN. The interface between the substrate material and the primary coating is provided with a first intermediate coating consisting of TiN. The interface between the primary coating and the secondary coating is provided with a second intermediate coating consisting of at least one layer of TiC, TiCO or TiCNO.

Multilayer coated hard alloy cutting tool

A blade member of tungsten carbide based cemented carbide for cutting tools has a tungsten carbide based cemented carbide substrate having a hard phase, a binder phase and unavoidable impurities. The hard phase has 5% to 60% by weight of one or more of carbide and carbo-nitride of titanium, tantalum and tungsten, and carbide and carbonitride of titanium, tantalum, niobium and tungsten. The binder phase has 3% to 10% by weight of cobalt and a balance tungsten carbide. The substrate has a surface softening layer having a cobalt-pool phase and an interior portion. The surface softening layer has an outermost region in which hardness is generally constant with respect to depth from the substrate surface and an inner region in which hardness rises inwardly of the substrate up to the hardness of the interior portion. There is also disclosed a process for producing the above-mentioned blade member.
