The present invention provides a carbon material dispersion in which a carbon material is contained at a high concentration in a liquid medium containing an organic solvent but is unlikely to reaggregate and is stably dispersed, and from which various products, such as an ink capable of forming a coating film having excellent electric conductivity, can be formed. This carbon material dispersion contains a carbon material, an organic solvent, and a polymeric dispersant, wherein the polymeric dispersant is a polymer having 3 to 55% by mass of a constituent unit (1) represented by the following formula (1), wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or the like, A represents O or NH, B represents an ethylene group or the like, Rand Reach independently represent a methyl group or the like, Ar represents a phenyl group or the like, X represents a chlorine atom or the like, and p represents an arbitrary number of repeating units, and the polymeric dispersant has an amine value of 100 mgKOH/g or less and a number average molecular weight of 5,000 to 20,000.

Carbon material dispersion

The present invention provides an A-B block copolymer that enables preparation of a polymer emulsion useful as a binder component for an aqueous inkjet ink that is excellent in inkjet printability and is capable of forming a printed film excellent in durability, such as adhesiveness and rub resistance, on a substrate to be printed, such as a polyolefin-based plastic film. The block copolymer is an A-B block copolymer satisfying the following requirements (1-1) to (1-3). (1-1) Containing 90% by mass or more of a constituent unit derived from a methacrylate-based monomer or the like. (1-2) The chain A has a constituent unit (A-i) derived from methyl methacrylate or the like and a constituent unit (A-ii) derived from 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate or the like. (1-3) The chain B has a constituent unit (B) derived from methacrylic acid, a constituent unit (B-i) derived from methyl methacrylate or the like, and a constituent unit (B-ii) derived from 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate or the like.

A-B block copolymer, polymer emulsion and water-based inkjet ink

There is provided a carbon material dispersion which has excellent dispersibility and in which the dispersibility is retained stably over a long period of time even when the carbon material dispersion contains a carbon material at a high concentration. The carbon material dispersion is a carbon material dispersion containing a carbon material, water, and a polymeric dispersant, wherein the polymeric dispersant is a polymer including 5 to 40% by mass of a constituent unit (1) derived from a monomer 1, such as 2-vinylpyridine, 50 to 80% by mass of a constituent unit (2) derived from a monomer 2 represented by formula (1) (wherein Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or the like, A represents O or NH, X represents an ethylene group or a propylene group, Y represents O, NHCOO, or NHCONH, each of Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or the like, n represents 20 to 100, and Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or the like), and 0.5 to 40% by mass of a constituent unit (3) derived from a monomer 3 copolymerizable with above-described monomers.

The present invention provides an aqueous pigment dispersion liquid being such that a pigment is finely dispersed, and the viscosity, and the particle diameters of the pigment are unlikely to fluctuate, being excellent in storage stability, and enabling preparation of an emulsion-polymerized toner having properly controlled particle diameters while improving the pigment utilization rate. The aqueous pigment dispersion liquid is an aqueous pigment dispersion liquid for an emulsion-polymerized toner containing a pigment, a dispersant, and an aqueous medium. The dispersant is a polymer containing a constitutional unit (A) derived from a monomer (A) such that a group containing a (meth)acryloyloxy group or the like is bonded to one end of a particular polyethylene glycol chain or the like, and a constitutional unit (B) derived from a monomer (B) having a carboxy group or the like, the polymer has a number average molecular weight in terms of polystyrene of 4,000 to 15,000, as measured by gel permeation chromatography, the polymer is contained in a state of being not ionized substantially, and the aqueous pigment dispersion liquid has a pH of 3.0 to 8.4.

The present invention provides: a novel production technique that enables production of a polymer whose molecular weight and molecular weight distribution are controlled and production of a polymer having a complicated structure in a desirably controlled manner using commercially available materials without using a radical polymerization initiator or a special material for use in living radical polymerization and without the need for strict polymerization conditions; and a radical polymerization initiating group-containing compound for use in the technique. The present invention relates to: a method for producing a polymer, the method including a polymerization step of mixing and warming (1) a radically polymerizable monomer, (2) an organic compound wherein at least one group that functions as a group for initiating polymerization of the monomer and that has a structure represented by formula 1 or formula 2 (X in the formula represents Cl or Br) is introduced in a molecule of the organic compound, and (3) an iodine-containing compound, thereby initiating, from the group having the structure, radical polymerization accompanied by a termination reaction; and the organic compound of (2) for use in the method.

Provided are: a novel polymerization technique by which a polymer having a controlled molecular weight or molecular weight distribution or a polymer having a desirably regulated, complicated structure can be obtained using commercially available general-purpose materials without using any radical polymerization initiator, or any special material for use in living radical polymerization and without requiring any strict polymerization conditions; a radical polymerization initiation group-containing compound for use in the technique; and a polymer obtained thereby. Specifically, provided are: a method for producing a polymer, the method including a polymerization step of mixing and warming (1) a radically polymerizable monomer, (2) an organic compound having at least one group introduced in a molecule thereof, the group functioning as a polymerization initiation group for the monomer and having a structure represented by formula 1, and (3) a chloride ion-containing and/or bromide ion-containing compound selected from among specific compounds, thereby initiating radical polymerization from the group having the structure, the radical polymerization accompanying a termination reaction; a radical polymerization initiation group-containing compound; and a polymer. 

Production method for polymer

There is provided a resin-treated pigment that is useful as a coloring agent for color filters or inkjet inks, that can expand a hue range and improve performances such as color density, color developability, and transparency, and that is excellent in properties such as dispersibility and dispersion stability of pigments, re-dissolvability, and alkali-solubility. An A-B block copolymer 90% by mass or more of which is constituted by a methacrylate-based monomer or methacrylate-based monomers, in which the block A has a carboxy group-containing methacrylate as a constituent, and the block B has an ionic bond moiety represented by formula (1) as a constitutional unit, the ionic bond moiety containing a methacrylate, and an organic coloring matter having one or more sulfonate ions each being bonded thereto and each being a counter ion of a nitrogen cation of a quaternary ammonium salt.

The present invention provides a pigment dispersant that exhibits high fine dispersibility, stability, and fluidity in a small amount, a pigment dispersion liquid including the pigment dispersant, and a process of producing the pigment dispersant and pigment dispersion liquid. The pigment dispersant contains as a main component, a graft copolymer formed through living radical polymerization using two or more monomers including a methacrylate A having an acidic group or a basic group and a methacrylate-based macromonomer B having a methacrylate residue at one terminal of a particular polymer chain that has a molecular weight of from 500 to 5000. A ratio of a total molar number of the methacrylate-based monomers relative to 1 mol of a polymerization-initiating compound in the raw material monomers is from 20 to 50 mol. A ratio of the B component-derived polymer chain to the graft copolymer is from 50 to 90 mass %.

Pigment dispersant, production method for pigment dispersant, and pigment dispersion liquid

The present invention provides a pigment dispersant that exhibits high fine dispersibility, stability, and fluidity in a small amount, a pigment dispersion liquid including the pigment dispersant, and a process of producing the pigment dispersant and pigment dispersion liquid. The pigment dispersant contains as a main component, a graft copolymer formed through living radical polymerization using two or more monomers containing including a methacrylate A having an acidic group or a basic group and a methacrylate-based macromonomer B having a methacrylate residue at one terminal of a particular polymer chain that has a molecular weight of from 500 to 5000. A ratio of a total molar number of the methacrylate-based monomers relative to 1 mol of a polymerization-initiating compound in the raw material monomers is from 20 to 50 mol. A ratio of the B component-derived polymer chain to the graft copolymer is from 50 to 90 mass %.

A novel aqueous emulsion solution is provided that can be used as a binder for forming a coating film suitable for an inkjet printing system. The present invention is an aqueous emulsion solution containing a polymer I and a polymer II mixed together therein, wherein the polymer I is an A-B block copolymer formed from 90 mass % or more of a methacrylate-based monomer, the A-B block copolymer neutralized with an alkali, a polymer block A is substantially water-insoluble and has a number average molecular weight of 1000 to 10000 and a polydispersity index of 1.5 or less, a polymer block B is synthesized using a monomer containing at least a methacrylic acid and has an acid value of 30 to 250 mgKOH/g, the A-B block copolymer has a number average molecular weight of 5000 to 20000, a content of the polymer block A of 5 to 60% in the A-B block copolymer, and a polydispersity index as a whole of 1.6 or less, the polymer II is a polymer obtained by polymerizing a hydrophobic addition polymerizable monomer and having a glass transition temperature of 70&#xb0; C. or lower, and further the mass ratio of the polymer I and the polymer II is 5 to 80:95 to 20.

The present invention is an aqueous pigment dispersion liquid for inkjet comprising a pigment and a pigment dispersant. The pigment dispersant is at least any one of a graft copolymer and a block copolymer each comprising a polymer chain A and a polymer chain B, wherein the polymer chain A comprises 20 to 60 mass % of a constituent unit derived from a first cycloalkyl group-containing (meth)acrylate, 10 to 35 mass % of a constituent unit derived from (meth)acrylic acid, and 5 to 70 mass % of a constituent unit derived from another (meth)acrylate and the polymer chain B comprises at least any one of a constituent unit derived from a second cycloalkyl group-containing (meth)acrylate and a constituent unit derived from a vinyl monomer or (meth)acrylate having an aromatic ring.

Aqueous pigment dispersion liquid and aqueous pigment inkjet ink using same

Disclosed are an aqueous pigment dispersion containing at least a pigment, water, a high-molecular dispersant, and an alkali. The high-molecular dispersant is a diblock polymer having a formula (1) of A-B or a triblock polymer having a formula (2) of A-B-C. The diblock or triblock polymer is a diblock or triblock polymer obtained by polymerizing addition-polymerizable monomers with a radical generator while using an organic iodide as a polymerization initiating compound and an organic phosphorus compound, organic nitrogen compound or organic oxygen compound as a catalyst. Also disclosed are a production method and use of the aqueous pigment dispersion. With the high-molecular dispersant obtained by a simple living radical polymerization process free of the problems of conventional living radical polymerization and having a precisely-controlled molecular structure, the aqueous pigment dispersion can be obtained with the pigment dispersed in it.

Process for producing block polymer, coated pigment and aqueous pigment dispersion

Disclosed is an emulsion binder containing an A-B block copolymer. The A-B block copolymer has a number average molecular weight of 5,000 to 100,000, and a polydispersity index (weight average molecular weight/number average molecular weight) of not greater than 1.7. The polymer block A has an acid value of 0 to 30 mgKOH/g and a glass transition point of not higher than 60&#xb0; C. The polymer block B has an acid value of 75 to 250 mgKOH/g. The A-B block copolymer has been neutralized with an alkaline material, and has been allowed to self-emulsify in an aqueous medium to form emulsion particles having an average particle size of 30 to 300 nm.
