Electroplated steel sheet suitable for soldering is provided herein by coating the plated steel sheet with a post-treatment solution in the range of 0.02 to 2 .mu.m in dry thickness. The post-treatment solution contains from 2 to 100 g/l of at least one water-soluble or water-dispersed material. The post-treatment solution may further contain chromium ion, hereafter referred to as Cr.sup.6+, from 0.01 to 3 g/l, and/or organic amine soap from 10 to 100 g/l. A suitable pH value of the post-treatment solution is from 3 to 10.

Method for post-treatment of plated steel sheet for soldering

A copolyester film was laminated onto a steel sheet, this sheet having double layers consisting of a lower layer of metallic chromium and an upper layer of hydrated chromium oxide on a tin plated steel sheet in which 5 to 40% of the surface of the steel sheet is covered with plated tin and the remainder of the steel surface is exposed and the space between plated tin particles is 0.5 to 50 .mu.m, and a method for production of this copolyester resin film laminated steel sheet which comprises: (a) electroplating with tin under restricted conditions, (b) formation of said double layer on the plated tin and exposed steel surface and (c) lamination of the copolyester resin film at a temperature above the melting temperature of tin. This copolyester resin film laminated steel sheet is suitable for applications wherein excellent corrosion resistance after severe forming is required, such as deeply drawn cans, drawn and redrawn cans, drawn and stretch formed cans, drawn and partially ironed cans and can ends in which a tab for easy opening is attached.

Tin-plated steel sheet with a chromium bilayer and a copolyester resin

Electroplated steel sheet suitable for soldering is provided by coating the plated steel sheet with a post-treatment solution in the range of 0.01 to 2 um in dry thickness. The post-treatment solution contains from 2 to 200 g/liter of at least one water-soluble or water-dispersed materials other than phosphoric esters, and/or from 5 to 200 g/liter of phosphoric esters, and also contains from 2 to 100 g/liter of at least one water-soluble or water-dispersable organic fluoro compound. The post-treatment solution may further contain from 0.01 to 3 g/liter of Cr.sup.6+ ion, and/or from 10 to 100 g/liter of organic amine soap. A suitable pH value of the post-treatment solution is between 3 and 10.

A process of making a composite of a sintered layer on a metal core member, such as an extruder screw having a sintered hard layer on a steel core, by charging a green compact sintering powder material into a space between an inner surface of a compressible mold and an outer surface of a mold core, sealing the compressible mold with the green compact material and the mold core therein, isostatic pressing the sealed compressible mold with the green compact material and the mold core therein, removing the mold core from the isostatically pressed green compact thus forming a cavity therein, inserting a metal core in the cavity in the isostatically pressed green compact with the metal core having a smaller transverse cross-section than the previously removed mold core and shrinking and bonding the isostatically pressed green compact onto the metal core by heating the isostatically pressed green compact and the metal core to a temperature at which the isostatically pressed green compact is sintered resulting in shrinkage thereof and bonding of the sintered material onto the metal core.

A drawing punch for use in drawing foils in a die which converges in the direction of drawing. The punch has a rigid core, a cylindrical elastic body on the core and surrounding the core with a cavity therein around the core and opening out of the end of the body facing the direction of drawing. A method for the production of a metal sheet covered with polyester resin film which comprises laminating a polyester resin film which is preferably crystalline and oriented onto a metal sheet having a lower layer of metallic chromium and an upper layer of hydrated chromium oxide, which sheet has been heated to a temperature above the melting point of polyester resin film and then immediately quenching. This metal sheet covered with polyester resin film is excellent in corrosion resistance and formability.

A process for producing a thin tin and zinc plated steel sheet which comprises electroplating zinc on a steel sheet from a zinc electroplating bath containing zinc ions followed by tin-plating the zinc plated steel sheet by immersion or by immersion followed by electroplating in a tinplating bath containing stannous ions, whereby zinc ions from the zinc plated steel sheet replace the stannous ions in the tinplating solution during the immersion tinplating. The resultant solution from the tinplating which contains zinc ions is recycled to make up the zinc electroplating bath.

Process of producing metal-resin composite, and the composite resulting therefrom, are provided. The process comprises providing a solution or dispersion of a resin, for example, an epoxy resin, said solution or dispersion having dispersed therein at least one particulate metal compound, for example, an oxide, of the Group I A and II A metals of the Periodic Table, the amount of metal compound being 1-500 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of resin, then coating the solution or dispersion on a metal substrate and heating the coated substrate to evaporate the solvent for the resin and cure the resin. The resultant metal-resin composite is corrosion resistant, especially under acidic conditions, since the resin layer having the Group I A or II A metal compound dispersed therein serves to control the pH on the surface of the metal substrate to within the range of from 4 to 12 under acidic conditions in the atmosphere surrounding the metal-resin composite.

Tin-free steel having a first layer of metallic chromium on a steel base and a second layer of hydrated chromium oxide on the first layer, in which the atomic ratio of sulfur and the atomic ratio of fluorine to the sum of chromium, oxygen, sulfur and fluorine in the second layer are respectively not greater than 2.5 atomic percent and not greater than 10 atomic percent. This tin-free steel can be used for a nylon-adhered can body to be subjected to a hot-packing or retort treatment, since it has excellent lacquer adhesion after aging in hot water and under retort conditions.
