Method of producing polyarylene sulfide

The production method of the present invention includes a step of supplying an organic polar solvent, a sulfur source, and a dihalo aromatic compound as reaction raw materials to at least one of a plurality of reaction vessels mutually communicated via a gas phase; a step of removing at least a portion of the water present in the reaction vessels; and a step of performing a polymerization reaction. These steps are carried out in parallel, and the reaction mixture is sequentially moved between reaction vessels. At that time, the internal temperatures of the reaction vessels are all not less than 150&#xb0; C.

PROBLEM: To provide a method of producing a polyarylene sulfide (PAS) such as polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) in which a dihalo aromatic compound and a sulfur source containing an alkali metal are polymerized in an organic amide solvent, whereby a PAS is produced at higher yield and the amount of NaCl produced as a by-product is reduced to not greater than half that of conventional methods, and, due to a dehydration step being omissible, PAS with excellent practical utility is produced with high productivity in a short time. SOLUTION: A method of producing a PAS in which a dihalo aromatic sulfide compound represented by the formula: X&#x2014;(&#x2014;Ar&#x2014;S&#x2014;)&#x2014;Ar&#x2014;X (in the formula, Ar represents an optionally substituted aromatic group, X represents a halogen atom, and n is from 1 to 10) and a sulfur source containing an alkali metal are polymerized in an organic amide solvent; and a PAS of which an average particle size is from 10 to 5000 &#x3bc;m, a melt viscosity measured at a temperature of 310&#xb0; C. and a shear rate of 1216 secis from 0.1 to 3000 Pa&#xb7;s, and a nitrogen content is not greater than 500 ppm.

Method of producing polyarylene sulfide and polyarylene sulfide

The invention provides a thermally foamable microsphere having a structure with a foaming agent encapsulated in a shell formed of a polymer, wherein the shell contains an organosilicon compound, and a process for producing a thermally foamable microsphere having a structure with a foaming agent encapsulated in a shell formed of a polymer by suspension polymerization of a polymerizable mixture containing at least a foaming agent and a polymerizable monomer in an aqueous dispersion medium, wherein the polymerizable mixture is suspension polymerized in the presence of the organosilicon compound.

Thermally foamable microsphere and production process thereof

The invention provides a thermally foamable microsphere whose shell is formed of a polymer that is obtained by the polymerization of a polymerizable monomer and a crosslinkable monomer at a proportion of greater than 1% by weight up to 5% by weight based on the polymerizable monomer and which has a maximum expansion ratio of at least 5. The invention also provides a process for the production of a thermally foamable microsphere having a maximum expansion ratio of at least 5 by the suspension polymerization of a polymerizable mixture containing a crosslinkable monomer at a proportion of greater than 1% by weight up to 5% by weight based on the polymerizable monomer.

The invention provides a thermally foamable micro-sphere whose shell is formed of a polymer that is obtained by the polymerization of a polymerizable monomer and a crosslinkable monomer at a proportion of greater than 1% by weight up to 5% by weight based on the polymerizable monomer and which has a maximum expansion ratio of at least 5. The invention also provides a process for the production of a thermally foamable microsphere having a maximum expansion ratio of at least 5 by the suspension polymerization of a polymerizable mixture containing a crosslinkable monomer at a proportion of greater than 1% by weight up to 5% by weight based on the polymerizable monomer.

Foamable microspheres with a foaming agent enclosed in the shell of a polymer, wherein the average particle diameter of the microspheres is within a range of 3 to 100 &mgr;m, and the coefficient of variation of the particle diameter distribution thereof is at most 1.50%, and production process of foamable microspheres by a suspension polymerization process.

Expandable microspheres and process for producing the same

The invention provides a process for producing a poly(arylene sulfide) comprising a dehydration step of heating and dehydrating a mixture containing an organic amide solvent (a), an alkali metal sulfide and water to control a water content in the mixture and a subsequent polymerization step of subjecting the alkali metal sulfide and a dihalo-aromatic compound to a polymerization reaction in the organic amide solvent (a), wherein hydrogen sulfide vaporized off during the dehydration step is absorbed in another organic amide solvent (b) outside a system in which the dehydration step is carried out, thereby recovering it, and the hydrogen sulfide thus recovered is reused in the polymerization reaction as a raw material for the alkali metal sulfide. The production process of the invention can solve various problems attendant upon the vaporization of hydrogen sulfide and provide a poly(arylene sulfide) which undergoes little variation in melt viscosity and has stable quality.

Process for producing poly(arylene sulfide)

In a process for producing poly(phenylene sulfide), in which an alkali metal sulfide is reacted with a dihalo-aromatic compound in an organic amide solvent, the reaction is conducted through the following Steps 1 and 2, thereby efficiently providing granular, high-molecular weight poly(phenylene sulfide) having excellent whiteness in a short period of time and at a high yield. Step 1: a step comprising reacting the alkali metal sulfide with the dihalo-aromatic compound within a temperature range of 170.degree.-270.degree. C. in the organic amide solvent containing water in a proportion of 0.5-2.0 moles per mole of the alkali metal sulfide charged while raising the reaction temperature at an average heating rate of 0.1.degree.-1.degree. C./min in at least a temperature range of from 220.degree. C. to 240.degree. C., so as to give a conversion of the dihalo-aromatic compound of 70-98 mol %, thereby forming a: prepolymer of poly(phenylene sulfide); and Step 2: a step comprising adding water to the reaction system at a temperature of at least 235.degree. C. in such a manner that water is present in a proportion of 2.1-10 moles per mole of the alkali metal sulfide charged, and continuing the reaction for 0.5-10 hours within a temperature range of 245.degree.-290.degree. C., thereby converting the prepolymer to high-molecular weight poly(phenylene sulfide).

Process for producing poly(phenylene sulfide)

A poly(arylene sulfide) resin composition comprising in admixture a poly(arylene sulfide) resin and at least one nickel compound selected from the group consisting of (a) nickel carbonates, (b) nickel hydroxide, (c) organic carboxylates of nickel and (d) nickel oxide is provided. According to the resin composition of the invention, the metal corrosiveness of the poly(arylene sulfide) resin upon and after its molding or forming is sufficiently inhibited without deteriorating the excellent heat resistance, mechanical properties, processability and the like inherent in the resin.

A poly(arylene sulfide) resin composition in which the tendency of a poly(arylene sulfide) resin to cause metals making up molds, processing machinery, metal parts of inserts and the like to corrode has been inhibited, and which has good processability includes the poly(arylene sulfide) resin and, as a corrosion inhibitor, at least one substance selected from the group consisting of a metallic simple substance of molybdenum, oxoacids of molybdenum, alkali metal salts of the oxoacids of molybdenum, alkaline earth metal salts of the oxoacids of molybdenum, the ammonium salts of the oxoacids of molybdenum, the zinc salts of the oxoacids of molybdenum, a metallic simple substance of tungsten, oxoacids of tungsten, alkali metal salts of the oxoacids of tungsten, alkaline earth metal salts of the oxoacids of tungsten, the ammonium salts of the oxoacids of tungsten and the zinc salts of the oxoacids of tungsten. The corrosion inhibitor being incorporated in a proportion within a range of 0.01-10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the poly(arylene sulfide) resin.
