The twin-image elimination apparatus of the present invention comprises (a) a scanning light source for emitting a scanning light beam; (b) an interference device which converts the scanning light beam from the scanning light source into a spherical wave and a plane wave having temporal frequencies different from each other and combines the spherical and plane waves together; (c) a scanner for scanning an object with the combined light beam from the interference device; (d) a photodetector for detecting a scattered wave from the object; (e) a first multiplier which converts an output signal of the photodetector into a cosine-coded holographic information; (f) a second multiplier which converts the output signal of the photodetector into a sine-coded holographic information; and (g) a holographic reconstruction device which converts output signals of the first and second multipliers into a sum signal, in which these output signals are added together with a phase difference of .pi./2+2n.pi. (wherein n is an integer not less than 0), so as to reproduce an image of the object without the presence of its twin image. Hence, at the time of reconstructing a hologram, the virtual image component contained in the output signal of the photodetector can be removed, thereby improving the image quality of the reconstructed image.

Twin-image elimination apparatus and method

There is disclosed an optical heterodyne scanning holography device capable of recording and reconstructing a holographic image of an object in real time by optical heterodyne-scanning the object, capturing a scattered wave from the object by a photodetector, and converting a heterodyne output current from the photodetector to a spatial light modulator for coherent processing optically.

Optical heterodyne scanning type holography device

An optical image generator includes a spatial light modulator and a display device. The spatial light modulator contains a material whose optical property can be changed corresponding to a change in the image pattern of an electronic charge emitted from a photocathode, so that the image pattern can be written into the material. The display device contains a two-dimensional light emitting diode (LED) or a liquid crystal display of matrix type which is arranged against the photocathode of the spatial light modulator.

In a microwave holographic device, the main lobe of a microwave antenna is spatially scanned to receive a microwave signal reflected from an object. The received microwave signal is mixed with a reference signal to generate two-dimensional electric information, synchronized with the scanning. The two-dimensional electric information is used to change the optical properties of an electrooptic material, and then the optical property changes are read out to obtain a holographic image.

A spatial light modulator consists of an electron beam source formed within a vacuum envelope and an electro-optic crystal or organic film whose optical property changes corresponding to the charge stored on the surface thereof. The electro-optic crystal or organic film is fastened to the substrate through adhesive or the transparent conductive film which is covered with a low-vapor-pressure material.

Spatial light modulator

An imaging tube for amplifying and observing a diminished light image and a streaking tube for analyzing the light intensity distributions of light sources with elapsing of time. In order to avoid adhesion of alkali metal to the micro-channel-plate in fabrication of the imaging tube and to avoid adhesion of alkali metal to the deflection electrode in the streaking tube, a separation wall and a lid movable on the separation wall are used.

An optical record disc is provided having a guide signal pit previously formed on a base plate for reading out a tracking information by a laser beam. A reflection film is coated on the base plate including the guide signal pit portion, and the record blank portion. A record layer of a removing type is formed over the reflection film.
