A home bus system is to perform concentrated monitoring and control of electric appliances positioned in a house as well as alerting users by monitoring outputs from security sensors positioned in places of consideration in the house. The appliances, and the occurrence of emergencies sensed by the security sensors, appear on the screen of a visual controller in the form of pictographs. Data about the pictographs are stored in a memory such as a graphic ROM, and once stored data are read from the memory to be displayed on the screen.

Terminal unit in information transmission system

A gateway circuit which exchanges information between a leased-line information transmission system and a power line carrier information transmission system includes a control circuit which receives and formats information transmitted over the leased-line information system and a separate control circuit which receives and formats information received over the power line carrier system. The formatted information is provided to a third control circuit which buffers the information and converts between the leased-line format and the power line carrier format to enable signal exchange between the two information transmission systems. The general control circuit responds to load control commands generated by manual switches located on the control unit and to load control commands forwarded over the leased-line system. The general control unit also contains storage elements which maintain the operating state of electrical loads on the power line and only transmit control information when an operating state must be changed.

Low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp

A lighting circuit for an electric discharge lamp according to the present invention is constructed in such a way that a switching device is provided at an output terminal of a high frequency inverter which produces a substantially sinusoidal output voltage, and that, by controlling this switching device, an output to the low pressure electric discharge lamp is stopped at the rising part of the abovementioned output voltage in its half cycle, while the output is supplied to the low pressure electric discharge lamp at the voltage level in the vicinity of the maximum instantaneous value thereof. By use of the high frequency inverter of a smaller capacity and less radio noise than those in the conventional device, the operating efficiency of the low pressure electric discharge lamp can be increased.
