A variable valve timing apparatus includes: a variable valve timing mechanism that changes a valve timing and locks the valve timing at a most retarded timing; an oil control valve that controls a mode in which hydraulic fluid is supplied to the variable valve timing mechanism; and a controller that varies a duty ratio of the oil control valve within a set range that includes an advance active band, a retard active band, a holding range, an advance release range and a retard release range. In the advance release range, a varying speed of the valve timing is higher than the holding range and a housing rotor is disengaged from a vane rotor. When an engine operating state is a release request state, the controller sets the duty ratio of the oil control valve within the advance release range.

Variable valve timing apparatus for internal combustion engine

A valve timing control apparatus includes a housing that is rotatable with a crankshaft; a vane rotor that is rotatable with a camshaft; and a phase controller to compulsorily change a rotation phase of the vane rotor alternately between an advance side and a retard side with respect to the housing if an engine shifts to a high rotation state after the engine continuously has a low rotation state for a predetermined period or more. The engine in the low rotation state has a rotation speed lower than a predetermined rotation speed. The engine in the high rotation state has a rotation speed equal to or higher than the predetermined rotation speed.

A control apparatus and a control method for a variable valve operating mechanism are employed for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine including the variable valve operating mechanism and a valve stop mechanism. The variable valve operating mechanism includes a variable mechanism portion that changes a valve characteristic of an engine valve, and an actuator that drives the variable mechanism portion. The valve stop mechanism stops opening/closing of the engine valve in at least one cylinder. A controlled variable for the actuator is set so that an actual value of the valve characteristic matches a target value. A control characteristic value used to set the controlled variable, and used to make the actual value match the target value, is set such that when a reduced-cylinder operation is performed, the control characteristic value is different from the control characteristic value when an all-cylinder operation is performed.

An internal combustion engine includes a plurality of variable valve timing mechanism (VVTs), each corresponding to one of a pair of banks. When an abnormality is detected in a VVT corresponding to one of the banks, the valve closing timing of the intake valves during starting of the engine in the bank corresponding to the normally functioning VVT is adjusted to valve timing that increases the power generated by combustion compared to the engine power generated during normal starting of the engine. Specifically, the valve closing timing of the intake valves during starting of the engine in the bank corresponding to the normally functioning VVT is brought closer to the bottom dead center of the intake stroke of the engine. As a result, deterioration of the starting performance of the engine due to the abnormality of the VVT is compensated for.

Apparatus for adjusting valve timing when starting internal combustion engine

A vehicle includes a battery and an alternator as a power source, and a plurality of vehicle load groups that operate commonly receiving power supply from the power source. When a plurality of requests for actuating the plurality of loads are made simultaneously, a control circuit determines a request of higher priority and a request of lower priority based on a predetermined priority for each of said requests. The control circuit operates the corresponding load as requested in response to the request of high priority, and operates the corresponding load with the operation limited to consume smaller power than requested in response to the request of low priority. A valve timing controller includes a guide rotation member provided with a guide groove, a bearing rotation member radially supporting the guide rotation member, and a plurality of movable bodies sliding in the guide groove in accordance with a rotation of the guide rotation member.
