The present invention provides an antibacterial composition capable of forming an antibacterial film having suppressed coloration, excellent antibacterial property, and suppressed film cracking, antibacterial film, and an antibacterial film-attached substrate. The antibacterial composition of the present invention includes a silver-based antibacterial agent containing zirconium phosphate and silver carried and supported on the zirconium phosphate, a monomer having a polymerizable group, and a solvent. The monomer having a polymerizable group includes a first monomer having a polymerizable group and a hydrophilic group, and a second monomer having a polymerizable group and having no hydrophilic group, and the content of the first monomer is 30% to 70% by mass with respect to the total mass of the monomer having a polymerizable group.

There is disclosed a method of preparing a photographic solid fine-grain dispersion, the method comprising the steps of: successively bringing a slurry of a water-insoluble photographically useful compound in a grinding chamber of a dispersing machine, which chamber is filled with media, allowing the compound to contact the media in the grinding chamber, to produce fine grains of the compound successively, successively separating the media from the compound by centrifugal force, and taking the compound out of the grinding chamber, using specific media with given physical properties. There is also disclosed a dispersion obtained by the method. According to the method, the photographic solid fine-grain dispersion is prepared efficiently, without coarse grains or abrasion materials resulting from media or so, and the dispersion causes no defect when coated in a form of a coating film.

The present invention provides a recording material comprising a substrate, a heat-sensitive layer formed on the substrate by a coating liquid containing (1) microcapsules containing a colorless or light-colored electron-donative dye precursor and (2) a dispersion of solids comprising color developers, and a protective layer formed on the heat-sensitive layer, wherein the dispersion of solids comprising color developers is a dispersion prepared by co-dispersing at least three color developers including at least one solid color developer, preferably a water-soluble color developer, in the form of solid particles and at least one amorphous color developer together with a water-soluble polymer, and wherein the solid particles of the color developers contained in the dispersion have particle diameters in the range of from 0.3 to 0.5 .mu.m and the haze of the heat-sensitive recording material is 55% or less.

Heat-sensitive recording material

In a production line for microcapsules, which is provided with an emulsifying machine, an emulsion or microcapsules are automatically sampled on a on-line basis from a portion of a process pipeline, which portion is located downstream of the emulsifying machine. The obtained sample is fed into a particle diameter measuring device, and the particle diameters of the microcapsules in the sample are automatically measured by the particle diameter measuring device. A calculation is made by a process computer in order to find the difference between the measured values of the particle diameters and a desired particle diameter. The value of a rotation speed of the emulsifying machine, which value yields the desired particle diameter, is calculated in accordance with the relationship between the rotation speed of the emulsifying machine and the mean particle diameter, the relationship having been inputted previously. The rotation speed of the emulsifying machine is adjusted in accordance with the calculated value of the rotation speed, and the particle diameters of the microcapsules are thereby controlled.

Method and system for controlling microcapsule particle diameters

A method for manufacturing microcapsules which prevents capsule particles from adhering to the inner wall surfaces of a wall-film-forming reactor device, thereby to eliminate the possibility that qualities of the microcapsule, such as the heat resisting, solvent resisting and other properties thereof, are deteriorated, and to eliminate the need for an operation to clean substances adhered to the inner wall surfaces of the wall-film-forming reactor device, and therefore, which is able to manufacture microcapsules at a high production efficiency. An emulsified solution is injected into a wall-film-forming reactor device from the lower portion thereof by an emulsified solution feed pump. After completion of a given time of a wall-film-forming reaction in the wall-film-forming reactor device, the emulsified solution is discharged from an overflow outlet formed in the upper portion of the device, and is then cooled by a heat exchanger. A water vapor injection valve is opened at the same time when, or more preferably, before the emulsified solution is injected into the wall-film-forming reactor device, water vapor is blown into a space in the wall-film-forming reactor device to form water drops on the wall surfaces of the space in the wall-film-forming reactor device to cover the space wall surfaces with the drops.

Method of manufacturing microcapsules

An oily liquid and an aqueous liquid as prepared at a temperature of 80.degree. C. are continuously emulsified at a temperature of 50.degree. C. or higher to give an emulsion, then a liquid comprising a polyamine and a concentration adjusting water of 50.degree. C. or higher is added to the emulsion and mixed in a static mixer, the emulsion mix is continuously flown into an encapsulation device from the bottom to the top thereof, and microcapsules are obtained by overflowing after a retention time of 60 minutes on average.
