A position pointer is provided for indicating a position on a sensor of a position detection device. The position pointer includes an elongate pointer body having a distal end and a proximal end; a first electrode disposed near the distal end; and a second electrode different from the first electrode and disposed near the distal end, wherein both the first and second electrodes are capacitively coupleable with the sensor of the position detection device. The position pointer includes a detection circuit configured to intermittently detect signals transmitted from the position detection device; a signal circuit configured to generate a position signal to be transmitted to the position detection device; and a transmission circuit configured to control transmission of the position signal. The transmission circuit, based on a detection result of the detection circuit, controls transmission of the position signal via the first electrode.

Position pointer

Provided is a position detector including a coil configured to function as a sensor and including a transfer coil that transfers an alternating magnetic field based on a transfer signal to a position indicator, and a signal processing circuit connected to the coil and configured to detect a pen signal generated by the position indicator, generate the transfer signal with a frequency based on frequency information of the detected pen signal, and transfer the transfer signal to the transfer coil.

A pen-shaped position indicator is configured to capacitively couple with a sensor surface of a position detection apparatus. The indicator includes a pen-shaped body; a coil; a driving power production circuit configured to produce a DC voltage from an induced signal in the coil by a wireless interaction with a charging device; a signal production circuit connected to the driving power production circuit and configured to generate a signal based on the DC voltage to form a capacitive relationship between the pen-shaped body and the position detection apparatus; a first electrode; and a second electrode. The first and second electrodes are configured to form first and second capacitive relationships with the sensor surface, respectively, to generate detection signals in the sensor surface from which a first detection signal and a second detection signal distinguishable from each other are extracted and used to obtain angle information of the pen-shaped position indicator.

A sensor includes a first substrate on a back side of a display panel, a first coil extending in a first direction at a predetermined angle between 0 and 90 degrees with respect to a long-side direction of the first substrate and including a first long-side portion provided with first and second end portions, a second coil including a second long-side portion extending in a second direction, a first leader line including a first end and a second end, wherein the first end is connected to the first end portion, and the second end is connected to wiring on a second substrate arranged to extend at a right angle toward the outside of the sensor from one side of the first substrate, and a second leader line including first end connected to the end portion and a second end connected to the wiring on the second substrate.

A position indicating device includes a housing, a position indicator which, in operation, indicates a position, a first pressure sensor which, in operation, detects a pressure applied to the position indicator, a second sensor which, in operation, detects a second pressure applied to the housing, a first communication circuit which, in operation, transmits the pen pressure detected by the pen pressure sensor, and a second communication circuit which, in operation, transmits the gripping force detected by the gripping force sensor. The position indicating device enables control of a line width and transparency in a preferable manner even when there is no actual touch surface.

There is provided a pressure sensing device including a plate-shaped member, plural strain sensitive materials arranged on the plate-shaped member, and a connection electrode electrically connected to a predetermined circuit. The plate-shaped member includes a surface portion having a center portion that receives force applied to a tip portion of a stylus. The plural strain sensitive materials include first and second strain sensitive materials arranged at different distances from the center portion of the surface portion of the plate-shaped member. The plural strain sensitive materials are formed on at least one surface portion of the plate-shaped member along with a conductive pattern that connects the first and second strain sensitive materials. The connection electrode is electrically connected to the plural strain sensitive materials, and the connection electrode is crimped and electrically connected to the predetermined circuit housed in the stylus.

Pressure sensing device and stylus

A position detection apparatus of the electrostatic coupling type is provided, to detect not only a position of a pointer but also information other than the position information such as, for example, pointer pressure or side switch information. The pointer transmits two codes such that a pressure applied to a pen tip is associated with a time difference between the two codes. A position detector carries out a correlation matching operation between signals generated in reception conductors and correlation calculation codes corresponding to the two codes, to thereby detect a position on a sensor section pointed to by the pointer from a result of the correlation matching operation and based on at least one of the codes. The position detector further includes a pressure calculation circuit for detecting pressure applied to the pointer, which is associated with the time difference between the two codes, from the result of the correlation matching operation calculated by the correlation matching operation and based on the two codes.

An electronic pen includes a tubular casing, a core body having an end that protrudes from opening in the casing, a strain generating body that receives a force applied to the core body, a plurality of strain sensitive elements arranged on a planar portion of the strain generating body, a control circuit that performs control based on a signal sensed using the plurality of strain sensitive elements, and an electrical conductor that extends in the axial direction of the casing and is electrically connected to a plurality of terminals of the plurality of strain sensitive elements. The plurality of strain sensitive elements is electrically connected to the control circuit via the electrical conductor.
