This invention provides a process for manufacturing a methyl methacrylate polymer comprising the steps of feeding a monomer containing at least 80 wt % of methyl methacrylate and a radical polymerization initiator represented formula (III) to a reactor; polymerizing the material at a polymerization temperature of 110 to 160&#xb0; C. under the conditions satisfying particular equations between an initiator concentration and a polymerization temperature; feeding a reaction mixture taken out from the reactor to a devolatilization step (feeding step); and separating and removing volatiles from the reaction mixture (devolatilization step). A methyl methacrylate polymer having adequately good optical properties and a plastic optical fiber having improved transmission performance can be prepared according to this invention

Disclosed is an optical multi/demultiplexer, which comprises a graded index type light transmission section whose refractive index is continuously reduced in the direction from the center to the periphery thereof, a wavelength-multiplexed-light connecting section disposed at one of the axial ends of the light transmission section, and at least one monochromatic light connecting section disposed at the other axial end of the light transmission section. The wavelength-multiplexed-light connecting section and the monochromatic light connecting section are disposed relative to the light transmission section in such a positional relationship that a monochromatic light included in a wavelength multiplexed light entered from the wavelength-multiplexed-light connecting section into the one end of the light transmission section is emitted from the other end of the light transmission section at a position where the monochromatic light connecting section is disposed. The present invention can provide an optical multi/demultiplexer having a reduced number of components and allowing the number of assembling steps to be reduced while eliminating the need for complicated adjustments.

An object of this invention is to provide a lens array in which the amount of light reaching the image forming surface is large and the variation in the amount of light is small. Disclosed is a cladding composition for a plastic clad plastic core optical fiber, which comprises (a) an ultraviolet ray-curable monofunctional acrylic or .alpha.-fluoroacrylic monomer, (b) a polyfunctional acrylate or .alpha.-fluoroacrylate having at least two acryloyl or .alpha.-fluoroacryloy radicals in the molecule and (c) a photoinitiator.
