An optical receiver is disclosed. The optical receiver includes a polarization holding fiber configured to receive a light emitted from a light source and a polarizer configured to be irradiated with the light output from the polarization holding fiber. A method for adjusting the optical receiver comprises: inputting a plurality of lights having different wavelengths to a polarization holding fiber; detecting intensities of a plurality of lights output from the polarization holding fiber; calculating an adjustment value for an angle of the polarization holding fiber based on a ratio between the detected intensities of the plurality of lights; and adjusting the angle of the polarization holding fiber based on the calculated adjustment value.

Method for adjusting optical receiver and apparatus for adjusting polarization of optical receiver

An optical receiver device including: a light-receiving element having a first electrode acting as an outputting electrode and a second electrode coupled to a potential that is different from a ground potential; an amplifier device having an amplifier element, a connection terminal including a signal electrode and a ground electrode on an upper face thereof; a first conductor coupling a potential of the first electrode of the light-receiving element to the signal electrode, the first conductor being introduced from the upper face side of the amplifier device; and a second conductor coupling a potential of the second electrode of the light-receiving element to the ground electrode, the second conductor introduced from the upper face side of the amplifier device.

Optical receiver device

A device able to evaluate a phase difference between I-component and Q-component of signal light generated by an optical hybrid is disclosed. The device includes a detector, a compensator and an evaluator. The detector detects positive and negative elements of each of the I-component and the Q-component. The compensator generates a compensated I-component and a compensated Q-component so as to keep the sum of positive and negative elements of each of components in constant. The evaluator determines the phase difference via an ellipsoid drawn by the compensated I- and Q-components.

An optical assembly (OSA) that installs a semiconductor optical device mounted on a thermo-electric controller (TEC) is disclosed. The TEC in the upper plate thereof is mechanically connected to the housing, or to the block stiffly fixed to the housing by a bridge made of stiff material. The bridge preferably extends along the optical axis to show enhanced durability against the impact caused by an external ferrule abutting against the receptacle of the OSA.
