A reinforcement information adjustment unit reduces an amount of information in reinforcement information by combining: update cycle adjustment processing to set an update cycle of the reinforcement information to be an integer multiple of a predetermined update cycle; geographic interval error value adjustment processing to reduce the number of geographic interval error values by selecting from among a plurality of the geographic interval error values each of which is an error at every predetermined geographic interval out of a plurality of error values, a geographic interval error value at every geographic interval that is an integer multiple of the predetermined geographic interval; and bit count adjustment processing to reduce a bit count of the error value for each error value. A reinforcement information output unit outputs, to an output destination, reinforcement information after being reduced in the amount of information by the reinforcement information adjustment unit.

Information processing device and positioning device

An apparatus and method generating a road image including no features such as trees and tunnels hiding or covering a road surface. A mobile measuring apparatus installed in a vehicle may acquire a distance and orientation point cloud, a camera image, GPS observation information, a gyro measurement value, and an odometer measurement value, while moving in a target area. The position and attitude localizing apparatus may localize the position and attitude of the vehicle based on the GPS observation information, the gyro measurement value and the odometer measurement value. The point cloud generating apparatus may generate a point cloud based on the camera image, the distance and orientation point cloud, and a position and attitude localized value. The point cloud orthoimage generating apparatus may extract points close to a road surface exclusively from the point cloud by removing points higher than the road surface, orthographically project each extracted point onto a horizontal plane, and generate a point cloud orthoimage. The point cloud orthoimage may show the road surface including no features covering or hiding the road surface.

It is an object to measure a position of a feature around a road. An image memory unit stores images in which neighborhood of the road is captured. Further, a three-dimensional point cloud model memory unitstores a point cloud showing three-dimensional coordinates obtained by laser measurement which is carried out simultaneously to the image-capturing of the images as a road surface shape model. Using an image point inputting unit, a pixel on a feature of a measurement target is specified by a user as a measurement image point. A neighborhood extracting unitextracts a point which is located adjacent to the measurement image point and superimposed on the feature for the measurement target from the point cloud. A feature position calculating unitoutputs three-dimensional coordinates shown by the extracted point as three-dimensional coordinates of the feature for the measurement target.

Measurement apparatus, measurement method, and feature identification apparatus

It is an object to measure a position of a feature around a road. An image memory unit stores images in which neighborhood of the road is captured. A form identification method which can identify forms without errors even if a form is inputted from a scanner in different direction or the form is enlarged/shrunk. A form registration method which enables change/modification of forms when form types are pre-registered. Inputted points as features are extracted from the form, modification of enlargement/shrinkage, rotation, or skew is made to the inputted points. Form types are identified based on minimum distances between the inputted point and pre-registered dictionary points. When registering a similar form type, warning can be displayed on the screen. In a system a dictionary registration station, a form identification station, and a form edit station are connected via a communication network. Each station operates in interlocking manner, identifies inputted forms, and registers them into a dictionary.

Form identification method

A character reading method has enhanced character segmentation accuracy and character string recognition accuracy for reading correctly hand-written addresses on postal matters. The method extracts provisional character patterns from image information of the address character string (step,), creates a table,of tentative character patterns and implements the character classification for the tentative character patterns (step,), extracts, specifically for characters of the street number portion of the address character string, periphery information (vertical and horizontal lengths, vertical/horizontal length ratio, pattern spacings, etc.) of tentative character patterns (step,), and segments the character string into characters accurately based on the information (step,).

Method of reading characters and method of reading postal addresses

In an apparatus for and a method of processing document information, according to a requirement of a writer of document information, the document information is generated, referenced, and re-constructed. Further, according to a requirement of a reader of the document information, the information is referenced and re-constructed. The apparatus includes a reader terminal including means for inputting a requirement of a reader of document information and means for outputting document information referenced and re-constructed according to the requirement, and a writer terminal for inputting therefrom a requirement of a writer of document information and creating document information. The apparatus further includes a document processing unit connected to the reader terminal and the writer terminal. The unit includes means for storing therein the document information produced by the writer terminal and processing means for referencing and re-constructing the stored document information according to the requirement of the user inputted from the reader terminal, thereby outputting therefrom the resultant document information.

Document processing apparatus and method for inputting the requirements

A character recognition method is arranged to supplement an erroneously recognized character with a linguistic knowledge. In this method, the extraction of a candidate based on the search of a word dictionary occupies a large part of the operation. To speed up the extraction of a candidate word, therefore, the method is provided to search the dictionary by using a group of candidate characters or a dictionary header for processing an inflected form of a verb. Further, the present method is provided for calculating a word matching cost for improving an efficiency of modifying an erroneous recognition. The word search is done by using a 'hybrid method' arranged of 'candidate-character-driven word extraction' and 'dictionary-driven word extraction'. Moreover, the word-dictionary is arranged to have a header word composed of an inflectional ending of a verb and an auxiliary verb or a particle added to the tail of the inflectional ending. The present method attaches much importance to the difference of the matching cost about a character with a totally high confidence ratio than the difference of the matching cost about a character with a totally low confidence ratio.

Character recognition method and apparatus

A document recognition system includes various recognitive steps for document recognition, and various correctional steps corresponding to the recognitive steps. The operation modes of the system are a 'sequential mode' (sequential recognition operation) in which the respective recognitive steps are executed in 'step by step' fashion, an 'auto mode' (batch recognition operation) in which all the recognitive steps are collectively executed, and a 'retry mode' (re-recognition operation) in which the execution of any of the correctional steps is automatically followed by the execution of a necessary one of the recognitive steps. In the 'sequential mode', any of the recognitive steps having been executed can be shifted, not only to the correctional step corresponding to the executed recognitive step, but also to the correctional step preceding the execution. When an error is involved in a recognized result because the limits of a character line recognized by the system are incorrect, the user of the system corrects the limits of the character line. Then, the system can execute the necessary recognitive step again based on the corrected limits of the character line.

Document recognition method and system

A file document image input can have shading removed to produce a deshaded image that is useful for highly efficient compression encoding, to be thereafter stored and transmitted in such efficient encoded form. When the image is retrieved or received, the decoded and deshaded image may have shading returned to it by combining with a shaded template image stored in the template image memory or by synthesizing shading in specified regions. By removing shading from regions, optical character recognition, shading identification or other processing such as smear prevention can be enhanced.

Document image processing system and document image processing method

This invention provides a method and apparatus for automatically producing a standard pattern for local pattern matching. According to the present invention, local patterns equivalent in size to a standard pattern to be obtained are successively removed from the image of an object being examined to prepare standard pattern candidates. Evaluation values representing appropriateness as a standard pattern are obtained from the local patterns successively removed or the local patterns together with the image of the object being examined. The evaluation values are used in an evaluation function expressing the uniqueness of the standard pattern and in an auxiliary evaluation function as an aid to the former. The standard pattern is selected using such evaluation values.

An automatic assembly system wherein parts supplied from a feeder are held by a holder and are automatically mounted onto predetermined positions of a circuit board; comprising a first image pickup device which images at least a portion of said circuit board, a second image pickup device which images at least a portion of the part held by the holder means, a signal processor which processes an output of said first image pickup device to detect a deviation of said circuit board from a reference position and which also processes an output of said second image pickup device to detect a magnitude of deviation between said part and the predetermined position of said circuit board, and a positioning device which operates under control of said signal processor so as to adjust said predetermined position of said circuit board to a position opposing to said part and also to move said part toward said circuit board.
