An epoxidized granular thermoplastic polymer which comprises a shell-like surface layer insoluble in toluene at 25&#xb0; C. is formed on the polymer, and a process for the production of the epoxidized granular thermoplastic polymer characterized in that the process comprises: the first step of epoxidizing a granular thermoplastic polymer in a water medium in the presence of an epoxidizing agent or the epoxidizing agent and a solvent for accelerating an epoxidation reaction and a phosphoric acid series compound; the second step of the washing with water, or the neutralization and washing with water of the epoxidized granular thermoplastic polymer; and the third step, if necessary, of removing the solvent for accelerating epoxidation reaction which may be used in the first step, as well as a process for the production of an epoxidized thermoplastic polymer, characterized in that under the condition in which thermoplastic polymer (A) in the solid-state is dispersed or suspended in water (B), the thermoplastic polymer (A) is epoxidized by a peroxide (C) with the dispersed or suspended state maintained.

Epoxidized thermoplastic polymers and processes for their production

A process for producing an epoxidized diene polymer includes: dispersing or suspending a diene polymer (C) having a ball-reduced particle size of 0.05-20 mm in a medium (A) in the presence of powder particles (B) insoluble in the medium (A), or in an aqueous medium in the presence of a phenol-based stabilizer and/or a phosphorus-based stabilizer; and epoxidizing the diene polymer (C) by an epoxidizing agent, therefore, problems associated with epoxidation performed by dissolving diene polymer in a solvent are eliminated; an economical method for epoxidizing, producing, and purifying a diene polymer (C) in a solid form is provided; and the epoxidized diene polymer having an excellent heat stability can be obtained.

Process for producing epoxidized diene polymer

A coated molding comprising a molding of a thermoplastic resin composition including a thermoplastic resin and an epoxidized diene based block copolymer, and a coating layer formed on a surface of the molding, the thermoplastic resin composition including a thermoplastic resin and an epoxidized diene based block copolymer obtained by epoxidizing a diene based block copolymer or a partially hydrogentated diene based block copolymer, wherein prior to epoxidizing, the diene based block copolymer or partially hydrogenated diene based block copolymer consists of a polymer block consisting of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon compound, and a polymer block consisting of a conjugate diene compound or a partially hydrogenated conjugate diene compound. The thus obtained coating layer is thereby firmly adhered to a molding of the thermoplastic resin composition.

Coated molding of thermoplastic resin composition and production method therefor

The present invention is directed to an epoxidized block copolymer composition comprising an epoxidized block copolymer (E) obtained by epoxidizing a block copolymer (C) comprising a polymer block (A) composed mainly of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon compound and a polymer block (B) composed mainly of a conjugated diene compound or a product (D) of hydrogenation of the block copolymer (C). The epoxidized block copolymer (E) meets at least one of the following requisites: (1) having a molar ratio (R) of contained hydroxyl to epoxy ranging from 0.001 to 0.1, the molar ratio (R) being represented by the formula: R&equals;&lsqb;hydroxyl&rsqb;/&lsqb;epoxy&rsqb; (wherein &lsqb;hydroxyl&rsqb; represents the amount, in terms of the number of moles, of hydroxyl contained per unit weight of the epoxidized block copolymer and &lsqb;epoxy&rsqb; represents the amount, in terms of the number of moles, of epoxy contained per unit weight of the epoxidized block copolymer); (2) having a gel content of not greater than 5% by weight; and (3) having a chloride ion content of not greater than 7 ppm.

Epoxidized block copolymer, its production, and its composition

A blended composition consisting of a thermoplastic olefin resin (Comp. A) with an acrylonitrile-styrene-alkyl acrylate copolymer (Comp. B) was attempted to create substitution for vinyl chloride compound prepared from vinyl chloride resin proper and a plasticizer, but resulted in inferior interdispersibility. Incorporation of an epoxy resin (Comp. C) has brought definite improvement in the interdispersibility.
