In order to provide a membrane protein production method which does not require the step of solubilizing a membrane protein and which allows the membrane protein having an excellent quality to be obtained with a high yield, a method in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention includes: a step (a) of preparing a reaction solution for cell-free protein synthesis, the reaction solution containing (i) a template nucleic acid which encodes the membrane protein, (ii) a lipid, and (iii) a detergent which is contained at a concentration equal to or higher than a critical micelle concentration; and a step (b) of synthesizing the membrane protein while the concentration of the detergent in the reaction solution is maintained at a concentration equal to or higher than a critical micelle concentration.

Method of manufacturing membrane protein and utilization thereof

The methods disclosed herein include recording at near-vertical first and second measurement positions respective first and second interferograms of the photomask surface and defining a difference map as the difference between the first and second interferograms. Respective first and second normal forces on the photomask are also measured at the first and second measurement positions. The change in the normal force is used define a scaling factor, which is applied to the difference map to define a scaled difference map. A compensated flatness measurement with a reduced shape contribution due to gravity is obtained by subtracting the scaled difference map from the first interferogram. An interferometer-based flatness measurement system is also disclosed.

Systems for and methods of measuring photomask flatness with reduced gravity-induced error

Non-contact, liquid-ejecting bearings () are provided for conveying flexible glass sheets (), such as LCD substrates, at high conveyance speeds, e.g., speeds of 15 meters/minute and above. The operating parameters and physical properties of the bearings satisfy at least one of the following conditions: (a) the average flow rate from the bearing's orifices () is in the range of 100-800 milliliters/minute/orifice; (b) the orifices' average horizontal pitch (P) is in the range of 20-55 millimeters; and/or (c) the orifices' average size (e.g., D) is in the range of 1.0-4.5 millimeters. The bearings () can reduce the time-averaged, peak-to-peak variation in the spacing between a LCD substrate () traveling at 15 meters/minute and the face () of the bearing () to less than 100 microns, thus reducing the chances that the bearing () will lose control of the substrate () or that the substrate () will hit the bearing ().

Liquid-ejecting bearings for transport of glass sheets

A method of cleaning thin glass substrates comprises applying a sequence of chemical washing steps as the thin glass substrate is being conveyed in a conveyance direction. In addition, surfaces of the glass substrate may be treated to enhance electrostatic discharge properties of the glass substrates.

Method of cleaning glass substrates

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for etching flexible glass sheets () in which the sheets () are transported in a vertical or near vertical orientation past non-contact, liquid-ejecting bearings () which apply an etching solution (e.g., an aqueous NaF/HPOsolution) to one or both sides of the sheets (). In certain embodiments, the uppermost liquid-ejecting bearing () is above the top edge of the sheet () and thus is able to apply etching solution to the top of the sheet. In other embodiments, a top shower (), which includes a set of spray nozzles () located above and distributed along the length of the apparatus, is used to apply etching solution to the top of the sheet (). Using the disclosed methods and apparatus, glass sheets () produced by a fusion process are provided which have areas greater than five square meters and average surface roughness values in the range of 0.5 nanometers to 1.1 nanometers.

The artificial pulmonary surfactant composition according to the present invention comprises a lipid mixture system containing no protein or peptide or a protein/peptide-lipid mixture prepared by adding a protein or a peptide to the above lipid mixture system. The artificial pulmonary surfactant composition of this invention is useful for RDS and ARDS as well as for the mitigation or prevention of respiratory insufficiencies caused by pneumonia, respiratory difficulties caused by asthma, etc. and it can be prepared at lower costs.

Artificial pulmonary surfactant compositions and use of the same

The invention relates to a receiver-drier for use in an air conditioning system. This receiver-drier has (a) a lower portion defining a lower chamber in the receiver-drier; (b) an upper portion defining an upper chamber in the receiver-drier; and (c) a strainer for removing foreign particles from the refrigerant. The lower portion has an inlet for allowing the refrigerant to flow into the lower chamber and an outlet for allowing the refrigerant to flow out of the lower chamber. Each of the inlet and the outlet is formed at a bottom of the lower portion. The upper chamber is on top of the lower chamber and is charged with a desiccant for removing moisture from the refrigerant. The strainer is disposed at a position in a flow of the refrigerant from the inlet to the outlet.

Receiver-drier for use in an air conditioning system

Light emission regulation device according to which light which is emitted from a light source and is transmitted by an optical system onto a required object or objects is detected by a light detection element which is located externally to the optical system and produces or controls an output which is proportional to light incident on the light detection element and is supplied to a control means which in response controls actuation input to the light source whereby light emission is maintained at a requisite level. The light detection element being external to the optical system, light emission regulation is unaffected by the condition of elements of the optical system or material in the optical path over which light is transmitted.
