An external control variable displacement compressor varies its displacement based on the pressure in a control chamber. The compressor has a valve chamber defined in a housing. The valve chamber has an opening to accommodate an electrically operative control valve. The control valve controls pressure in the control chamber due to an external electrical signal. An electrical power supply line is connected to the control valve, the power supply line being in contact with an opening of the valve chamber. The valve chamber opening is surrounded by a circumferential wall. An agonic surface formed on the circumferential wall is constituted of a rounded surface formed by rounding a corner of the opening and/or a chamfered surface formed by chamfering a top of the opening, and is formed on a part of or the entire circumferential wall. The power supply line is to be in contact with the agonic surface.

External control variable displacement compressor

A refrigerant circuit includes a compressor and an expansion valve. The expansion valve is connected to a discharge muffler of the compressor by a high pressure conduit. The expansion valve is also connected to a suction passage of the compressor by a low pressure conduit. The high pressure conduit includes a condenser and the low pressure conduit includes an evaporator. A check valve is located between the discharge muffler and the high pressure conduit to selectively connect and disconnect the high pressure conduit with the discharge muffler. A relief valve is attached to the discharge muffler upstream of the check valve. If the pressure in the compressor is abnormally high when the check valve closes, the relief valve releases the abnormally high pressure from the discharge muffler. Therefore, if the check valve fails to function, the relief valve prevents the pressure in the compressor from being abnormally high.

Refrigerant circuit and compressor

A compressor has a cam plate located in a crank chamber and mounted on a drive shaft and a piston coupled to the cam plate and located in a cylinder bore. The piston compresses gas supplied to the cylinder bore from a separate external circuit by way of a suction chamber and discharges the compressed gas to the external circuit by way of a discharge chamber. The cam plate is tiltable between a maximum inclined angle position and a minimum inclined angle position with respect to a plane perpendicular to an axis of the drive shaft according to a difference between the pressure in the crank chamber and the pressure in the cylinder bore. The piston moves by the stroke based on an inclination of the cam plate to control the displacement of the compressor. A valve is placed between the discharge chamber and the external circuit. The valve selectively connects and disconnects the discharge chamber with the external circuit based on a difference between the pressure acting on the upstream side of the valve and the pressure acting on the downstream side of the valve.

Valve arrangement at the discharge chamber of a variable displacement compressor

A compressor housing and method of manufacture and assembly are disclosed. The compressor housing includes a cylinder block and a front housing. An annular projection is formed on the front end of the cylinder block. An annular groove is formed on the rear end of the front housing. The cylinder block and the front housing are secured to each other to prevent the front housing from being displaced in relation to the cylinder block by engaging the annular projection with the annular groove. A gasket is located between the front end of the cylinder block and the rear end of the front housing secured to each other to seal between the cylinder block and the front housing. This compressor and its method of manufacture reduce the amount of misalignment between a shaft bore in the cylinder block and a shaft bore in the front housing, which improves the performance of the compressor.

Coupling construction of compressor housing and method for manufacturing

An improved displacement control valve incorporated in a variable displacement compressor. The control valve is installed in an accommodating hole formed in a rear housing of the compressor. A cap is attached to a housing body of the control valve. A pressure sensing chamber is defined between the cap and the housing body. A pressure sensing member, or bellows, is located in the pressure sensing chamber. The bellows moves a valve body in accordance with pressure introduced into the pressure sensing chamber. A tubular protector, which is made of an elastic material, is attached to the cap. The control valve is installed in the rear housing by inserting the valve, cap first, into the accommodating hole. During this installation, the protector prevents the cap from directly contacting the housing or inner wall of the accommodating hole. The cap is therefore not deformed. The performance of the control valve is therefore improved.

Variable displacement compressor and method for controlling the same

A compressor has a control valve that adjusts the pressure difference between a crank chamber and a cylinder bore for controlling the inclination of a drive plate. The control valve protrudes outward from the compressor housing. The compressor also has a support protruding outward from the front housing and a leg protruding outward from the cylinder block. The outer ends of the support and the leg extend further from the compressor than the furthest extremity the control valve. Therefore, when the compressor is placed on a flat surface, the support and the leg prevent the control valve from contacting the surface. This protects the control valve from damage during transport and handling.

Compressor

A variable displacement type compressor having a piston accommodated in a cylinder bore, a swash plate accommodated in a crank chamber for reciprocating the piston and a drive shaft for tiltably and rotatably supporting the swash plate. The swash plate includes projections that extend toward a thrust bearing and have outer surfaces that contact the thrust bearing. A shaft hole within which the drive shaft is located between the projections. The shaft hole has an opening that opens adjacent to the projections. A recess is formed at the end of the shaft hole adjacent to the projections. A hardening method is performed on the wall of the through hole and on the outer surfaces of the projections to improve wear resistance. The hardening method prevents overheating of localized areas of the swash plate.

Variable displacement compressor, swash plate, and method for hardening

A compressor having a cam plate disposed in a crank chamber and mounted on a drive shaft. The cam plate is tiltable between a maximum inclined angle position and a minimum inclined angle position with respect to a plane perpendicular to an axis of the drive shaft according to a differential pressure in the crank chamber and in a cylinder bore. The cam plate varies the stroke of a piston based on an inclination thereof to control the displacement of the compressor. A supply passage connects a discharge chamber with the crank chamber to deliver the gas from the discharge chamber to the crank chamber. The supply passage has an inlet that is open in the discharge chamber. A control valve is disposed midway on the supply passage. The control valve adjusts the amount of the gas introduced into the crank chamber from the discharge chamber through the supply passage to control the pressure in the crank chamber. A filter is disposed at the inlet of the supply passage to filter the oil. The filter captures foreign matter mixed with the oil when the gas containing the oil is introduced into the supply passage from the discharge chamber.

Oil mist filter in a variable displacement compressor

A cam plate is mounted on a drive shaft in a crank chamber. A plurality of pistons are operably coupled to the cam plate. The rotation of the drive shaft is converted to a linear reciprocal movement to compress and discharge refrigerant gas containing oil mist. An extracting passage extracts the refrigerant gas from the crank chamber to remove an excessive pressure in the crank chamber. The extracting passage is open to an accommodating chamber which receives the refrigerant gas from the passage. A bearing is disposed in the accommodating chamber and receives an axial load acting on the drive shaft. A bolt absorbs an assembly tolerance of the bearing. A first protuberance is provided on the bearing protruding in a radial direction with respect to the drive shaft so as to become aligned with the passage. The first protuberance engages an inner surface of the accommodating chamber to prevent rotation of the bearing.

Variable displacement compressor

A refrigerant compressor having a drive shaft for driving a compressing mechanism and driven by a drive power transmitted from an external drive power source, and a rotation detecting unit for detecting the rotating speed of the compressor by detecting a change in the magnetic flux leaking from the solenoid clutch and circulating through a predetermined magnetic circuit. The change in the magnetic flux is caused by rotation of a magnetic plate-like element having at least one cutout which moves past the magnetic detecting unit, and a permanent magnet fixedly held by the housing assembly of the compressor is arranged so as to increase the density of the magnetic flux circulating through the predetermined magnetic circuit whereby the change in the magnetic flux caused by the rotation of the magnetic plate-like element becomes rapid.

Refrigerant compressor with rotation detecting means

An axial multi-piston compressor includes a drive shaft, a cylinder block having cylinder bores formed therein and surrounding the drive shaft, and a plurality of pistons slidably received in the respective cylinder bores, wherein the pistons are successively reciprocated in the cylinder bores by a rotation of the drive shaft so that a suction stroke and a discharge stroke are alternately executed in each of the cylinder bores. During the suction stroke, a fluid is introduced into the cylinder bore, and during the compression stroke, the introduced fluid is compressed and discharged from the cylinder bore such that a residual part of the compressed fluid is inevitably left in the cylinder bore when the compression stroke is finished. The compressor further includes a rotary valve for allowing the residual part of the compressed fluid to escape from the cylinder bore into another cylinder bore after the suction stroke is executed in the former cylinder bore over a given short period of time.

A swash plate type variable displacement compressor comprises cylinder bores, pistons, a suction chamber and a discharge chamber. A suction valve introduces a low pressure gas into a working chamber in each cylinder bore. A discharge valve introduces a high pressure gas in the working chamber into the discharge chamber during a compression stroke. A crank chamber communicates to each of the cylinder bores at rear sides of the pistons. A swash plate is tiltably supported on a drive shaft and connected to each of the pistons through associated rods. The swash plate makes the pistons reciprocate in response to its undulating swing motion and varies its inclination angle based upon pressure differential between pressure in the suction chamber and pressure in the crank chamber therefore adjusting discharge displacement. A gas supply passage communicates each cylinder bore to the crank chamber in order to supply gas having a lower pressure than that in the working chamber at the time of completing the compression stroke. A gas bleed passage communicates the crank chamber to the suction chamber in order to introduce gas in the crank chamber into the suction chamber. A pressure control valve is provided in the gas supply passage or the gas bleed passage to control pressure of gas in the crank chamber. A valve is provided for opening and closing the gas supply passage in the middle of the compression stroke of each of the pistons.

Swash plate type variable displacement compressor

A variable displacement compressor includes a hinge mechanism having a pair of support arms integrally formed with and protruding from the drive plate, and guide pins which connect the swash plate with the support arms. Each support arm is formed having a unshaped cutaway portion defining a channel for supporting ball portion of the hinge mechanism. The ball portion pivotably secured in the channel portion of the support arm, is attached to guide pin which in turn connects to a bracket protruding from the swash plate. The ball portion transmits pressure & rotational forces generated by the pistons and rotational force of the drive plate respectively. The forces cause the ball portion of the hinge mechanism to impinge upon pre selected surface area of the u-shaped support arm. By impinging on these preselected surface areas of the u-shaped support arm, the ball portion will not disengage from the channel portion of the support arm. Moreover the shape of the support arm increases the motility of the ball portion and associate guide pin secured within the support arm. The guide pin is slidably inserted into either the support arm or the swash plate, and is rotatably supported by means of the support arm.
