In one embodiment of the present invention, a display device is disclosed which performs a divided-screen active driving, and which allows (i) its emitting region to be divided into smaller units, irrespective of the smallest module unit of a light source; and (ii) minimizing increase in costs for a driving system and manufacturing of an area light source, a display device of the present invention includes: a display panel having unit display pixels; an area light source arranged on a back surface of the display panel, the area light source having an emitting region which is divided into divided emitting regions; and a controlling section for controlling luminance of each of the divided emitting regions of the area light source, based on luminance information of video signals input, wherein the area light source includes: unit emitting pixels which controls light emission of the divided emitting regions through a matrix driving; the unit emitting pixels each having an electron emitting element for emitting an electron, and a fluorescent substance which emits light by being excited by the electron emitted from the electron emitting element, the unit emitting pixels each occupying an area which is equivalent to an area of plural pixels out of the unit display pixels.

Display device

A display apparatus according to the present invention comprises a plurality of pixel sectionsand performs an image display operation and an image reading operation. The plurality of pixel sectionseach include a light output sectionfor outputting first light, and a light receiving sectionfor receiving reflected light obtained as a result of an imaging subject being irradiated with the first light. Liquid crystal display device comprising an optical sensor for detecting the intensity of ambient light

In a liquid crystal display including a liquid crystal display panel formed by sandwiching a liquid crystal layer between an active matrix substrate and an opposed substrate, and a backlight that illuminates the liquid crystal display panel from a side of the active matrix substrate, a first optical sensor and a second optical sensor are disposed in a peripheral region on a glass substrate of the active matrix substrate. The first optical sensor is formed so that light external to the liquid crystal display and light propagating inside the active matrix substrate enter the first optical sensor. The second optical sensor is formed so that only light propagating inside the active matrix substrate enters the second optical sensor. Also, the second optical sensor is shielded from the external light. For example, a light-shielding film is formed on an upper surface of the second optical sensor.

The present invention provides a two-dimensional image detecting apparatus including a mold structure which apparatus can be applied to mammography, and a manufacturing method thereof. A gate insulation film () and a semiconductor layer () are laminated on a gate electrode (); and a source electrode () and a drain electrode () are formed on the semiconductor layer () by having a predetermined interval between their end portions. The driving IC applies a voltage, whose polarity is opposite to average polarity of a voltage making the photodetecting TFT in the OFF state, to the gate electrode of the photodetecting TFT in an arbitrary period. Thus, it is possible to provide the image reading device which can suppress variation of a photodetecting TFT property (resistance value) which is observed in a short time.

A photographing assisting apparatus is used when a subject is photographed using a photographing apparatus. The photographing assisting apparatus has a planar light source that, while in a state covering a to-be-photographed area on the subject, shines light on the to-be-photographed area on the subject and that is translucent in the direction pointing from the to-be-photographed area on the subject to the photographing apparatus, and a support portion that supports the photographing apparatus such that the distance between the subject and the photographing apparatus is kept fixed. The photographing assisting apparatus permits the subject to be illuminated with more evenly distributed brightness and permits a given illumination condition of the subject to be obtained stably.

A liquid crystal display comprising a plurality of liquid crystal panels placed on a single plane of a large substrate, and a black matrix made of a photo-absorbing film that shows black when having absorbed light. Two polarizing plates are respectively placed to cover the front and rear surface of a set of liquid crystal panels almost entirely in such a manner that their polarizing axes intersect at right angles. The resulting multi-screen liquid crystal display consumes less power, retains excellent display quality, and makes the joints between the liquid crystal panels difficult to see.

Image input/output device and image information reading method therefor

A signal line and a pixel capacitor wire that doubles as a pixel capacitor electrode are fabricated parallel to each other from the same electrode layer through patterning thereof. Therefore, no additional steps are required to form the pixel capacitor wire. In such an arrangement, the pixel capacitor wire and the signal line are disposed parallel to each other; therefore, delays of signal transmission in the signal line and crosstalk between pixels are prevented from occurring. The active matrix substrate incorporating this arrangement is suitably used in liquid crystal display devices, image sensors, and the like. Similar advantages are available with an arrangement in which the signal line and the pixel capacitor wire are disposed parallel to each other, and the storage capacitor electrode, which will constitute a storage capacitor with the pixel electrode therebetween, and the scanning line are fabricated from the same electrode layer through patterning thereof.

An electromagnetic detector includes an insulating substrate, whereon a charge storage capacitor, a charge collection electrode connected to the charge storage capacitor, and a semiconductor film having electromagnetic conductivity are laminated in this order. The charge collection electrode has an uneven section composed of at least a concave or convex part, dedicated for use in reinforcing a bonding strength between the semiconductor film and the charge collection electrode. With this structure, a peeling of the semiconductor film can be prevented.
