A mirror display apparatus that subjects a mirror optical element to pulse voltage driving so that a reflectivity in a mirror mode can be changed by means of a duty cycle of the pulse voltage is provided. A mirror display apparatus includes a monitor display device and a mirror optical element disposed on the front side of the monitor display device. The mirror optical element includes a liquid-crystal panel with a reflection-type polarizer disposed on the back side thereof. The mirror optical element has a reflectivity and a transmissivity that are changed in respective directions opposite to each other via electric driving using a voltage applied to the liquid-crystal panel. A control circuit drives the liquid-crystal panel using a pulse voltage and performs control to change the reflectivity and the transmissivity of the mirror optical element by changing a duty cycle of the pulse voltage.

Mirror display apparatus

In a mirror display apparatus, a mirror optical element in which reflectance and transmittance vary in opposite directions to each other by electric driving is disposed on a front surface side of a monitor display device. An operation mode of the mirror display apparatus is switchable between a monitor mode and a mirror mode for use. A temperature sensor is installed to a mirror display apparatus. In the monitor mode, the temperature sensor is used for a temperature control of the monitor display device, or a temperature compensation control related to display quality, or the both. In the mirror mode in which the mirror optical element is in a reflectance-reduced reflection mirror state, the temperature sensor is used for a temperature compensation control of reflectance of the mirror optical element.

Mirror display apparatus and control method thereof

Provided is a mirror display device including a monitor display element for emitting image light vibrating in a first direction in an image display state; and a mirror optical element provided on the display surface side relative to the monitor display element. The mirror optical element can switch reflective and transmissible states. The reflective state is that light vibrating in a first direction from an absorption-type polarization plate side is converted to vibrate in a second direction by a liquid crystal cell to be reflected by a reflection-type polarization plate, and converted to vibrate in the first direction by the liquid crystal cell to be emitted from the absorption-type polarization plate. The transmissible state is that light vibrating in the first direction from a reflection-type polarization plate side is transmitted through the cell as it is, to be emitted from the absorption-type polarization plate.

Mirror display device

An induction system for a watercraft includes a first intake air chamber communicating with at least one combustion chamber of an engine of the watercraft, and a second intake air chamber communicating with the first intake air chamber via a conduit. The second intake air chamber may be arranged in various orientations and/or with various other features which improve attenuation of induction noises and/or the preclusion of water from entering the engine through the induction system.

Air induction system for small watercraft

A control system for an engine or exhaust system includes a sensor that detects an exhaust gas temperature and a sensor that detects an exhaust coolant temperature. The sensors communicate with a controller. Based upon the output from the sensors, the controller determines whether each sensor is functioning properly and whether the cooling system is functioning properly. In the event of a malfunction of a sensor or the cooling system, an alarm is issued and the speed or operation of the engine is altered. In addition, if the controller detects a problem with the coolant system based upon coolant temperature or with the coolant temperature sensor, then the controller disables a starter motor such that the engine cannot be restarted without resetting the starter motor. The start motor can be disabled through a relay and the relay can be reset manually or automatically after a preset period of time.

Engine temperature control system

A personal watercraft has an improved ventilation system for an engine compartment. The ventilation system is disclosed in the context of both two-cycle and four-cycle engines. The system includes a plurality of ducts that are strategically positioned on the watercraft. One of the ducts extends through a sidewall of a pedestal that carries an operator seat. Another of the ducts extends through a bottom plate connecting the seat to the hull. The ducts are configured to create airflow across various engine and exhaust system components. For instance, a portion of an exhaust system is interposed between two ends of two separate ducts in one arrangement. In another arrangement, a duct draws or forces air past a portion of the exhaust system. The portion of the exhaust system can include a catalyst. The system also creates a flow of air across a cylinder head in one arrangement and a lubricant reservoir in another arrangement.

Ventilation system for small watercraft

A water inlet tap for an engine cooling system is provided on a jet propulsion unit of a small watercraft. The inlet tap includes a filter element arranged at the inlet of the tap so as to lie generally flush with in inner surface of the jet propulsion unit. In this position, the principal flow of water through the jet propulsion unit tends to sweep away debris at the inlet of the tap in order inhibit fouling of the filter. The filter, as well as the tap itself, are removably attached to one side of the jet propulsion unit for easy servicing.

Cooling system for small watercraft

A method and device for increasing the amount of fuel to an engine during acceleration is provided. A secondary source of fuel in addition to a first source of fuel is introduced into the engine during acceleration. The secondary source of fuel is introduced through a secondary fuel delivery line which is opened by a valve actuated in response to throttle control movement. In a first embodiment, the secondary fuel delivery line communicates with a fuel delivery area from which fuel is supplied to the first fuel source. The valve is pressed open by the throttle control along with a primary fuel source needle valve control, allowing fuel from the fuel delivery area to flow through the second fuel line in addition to the first fuel source. In second and third embodiments, the secondary fuel line communicates with an excess fuel return line. A valve extends across the fuel return line and secondary fuel line. The valve is movable between a closed position in which the fuel return line is open and the secondary fuel line obscured, and an open position in which the fuel return line is blocked and fuel is diverted to the secondary fuel line. In the second embodiment, the valve is moved by a control rod connected to a rotatable linkage connected to the throttle control. In the third embodiment, the valve is opened by movement of a vacuum operated diaphragm device.

Fuel-increasing system for an engine

A number of embodiments of lubricating systems for small watercraft that might become inverted and wherein a lubricant reservoir supplies lubricant under gravity to a lubricant pump when the water pump is operating in a normal upright condition. An air return line extends from the lubricant pump back to the reservoir to pump air which may enter the lubricant pump back to the reservoir. Arrangements are provided for insuring that air cannot flow from the lubricant reservoir to the lubricant pump through the supply line when the watercraft is inverted and also for precluding lubricant pressure in the air return line from acting to force air back to the lubricant pump when the watercraft is inverted.

Two cycle engine for small boat

Two embodiments of starting systems for internal combustion engines that prevent backfiring by precluding starting when the kill switch is energized. In one embodiment, the kill switch includes two pair of contacts, one for the kill circuit and one for the starting circuit, with the starting circuit contacts being normally closed and the kill circuit contacts being normally open. In the other embodiment, energization of the kill circuit also energizes a relay that opens the starting circuit.

Starting system for internal combustion engine

Several embodiments of outboard motor fuel feed systems wherein a position responsive valve is interposed between a remotely positioned fuel tank and the engine charge former for precluding the inadvertent flow of fuel to the charge former when the outboard motor is tilted up. In one embodiment, the valve is a gravity responsive valve and in another embodiment, the valve is mechanically operated. In a third embodiment, a device is provided for relieving the pressure in the conduit between the position responsive valve and the fuel tank when the outboard motor is again tilted down to its normal running position.

Fuel supplying system for outboard motor

Several embodiments of outboard motor fuel feed systems wherein a position responsive valve is interposed between a remotely positioned fuel tank and the engine charge former for precluding the inadvertant flow of fuel to the charge former when the outboard motor is tilted up. In each embodiment, the valve is a gravity responsive valve and in another embodiment a pressure responsive valve member is provided for ensuring fuel flow when the outboard motor is again tilted down to its normal running position.
