Adhesive for oxide ceramics and method of bonding oxide ceramics using it

Disclosed is an abrasion resistant adherend, which comprises a vulcanized rubber layer and ceramic pieces juxtaposed and embedded in the rubber layer and in which the ceramic pieces are at least partly exposed out of the rubber layer and are provided with a penetrative sintering layer in such a portion thereof as being in contact with the rubber layer.

A method for jointing ceramic elements is disclosed. Ceramic elements to be joined are arranged between a pair of torces each having a nozzle for spouting combustion gas. The joint line of ceramic elements is first heated by flames of combustion gas spouted from each nozzle and, then, a high voltage is applied between said pair of torches. Ceramic elements are joined by said heating and applying a high voltage between torches.

Method for jointing ceramic elements

A composite material composed of a non-oxide type ceramic and iron or an alloy thereof is disclosed, wherein the non-oxide type ceramic is formed with a copper metallized surface and bonded to the iron or alloy thereof with an intermediate layer of Invar steel, Kovar or copper disposed between the copper metallized surface and the iron or alloy thereof.

A method for the adhesion of oxide type ceramics and copper or a copper alloy is provided by this invention, which method comprises placing the oxide type ceramics and the copper or copper alloy in mutual contact, heating them in an oxidative atmosphere thereby effecting adhesion thereof, and rapidly cooling the resultant composite of adhesion. The adhesive strength of the composite of adhesion so produced is about 40% higher than the adhesive strength of a similar composite of adhesion obtained by the conventional method involving gradual cooling.

An adhesive agent having, as its active components, copper sulfide and at least one member selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica, and kaoline enables the opposed surfaces of two oxide-type ceramic articles to be joined to each other with high adhesive strength, this fast union being accomplished by interposing the adhesive agent between the opposed surfaces of the ceramic articles and heating the adhesive agent to a temperature of not less than 1000.degree. A process for metallizing the surface of a ceramic is provided. The surface of a ceramic is coated with a mixture of SiO.sub.2 and at least one copper compound selected from the group consisting of copper carbonate, copper sulfate, copper sulfide, copper oxide, and copper chloride. Thereafter, the film is heated at 900.degree. to 1300.degree. C. in an oxidizing atmosphere to form a baked layer on the surface of the ceramic. The ceramic having the baked layer formed thereon is subjected to a reduction treatment to form a copper-metallized layer on the surface of the ceramic.

Process for metallizing the surface of a ceramic

A composition of at least one member selected from the group consisting of sodium fluoride and calcium fluoride and optionally containing kaolin is powerful adhesive for ceramic articles which is used by interposing the adhesive intimately between the opposed surfaces for union of the ceramic articles and heating the adhesive to a temperature equal to or higher than the decomposition temperature of the fluoride used.

A method for providing strong adhesion of two ceramic articles to each other or one ceramic article to an article of metallic copper, which method comprises applying, in the former adhesion, a powder mixture of CuS-LaCrO.sub.3 -SiO.sub.2 -Cu to the opposed surfaces of the two ceramic articles or, in the latter adhesion, a powder mixture of CuS-LaCrO.sub.3 -SiO.sub.2 to the opposed surfaces of the ceramic article and the article of metallic copper and, thereafter, heating the pair of articles in the air at a temperature of from 1000.degree. to 1200.degree. C.

Method for adhesion of ceramics

A method for providing strong adhesion of two ceramic articles to each other or one ceramic article to an article of metallic copper, which method comprises applying, in the former adhesion, a powder mixture of CuS--LaCrO.sub.3 --SiO.sub.2 --Cu to the opposed surfaces of the two ceramic articles or, in the latter adhesion, a powder mixture of CuS--LaCrO.sub.3 --SiO.sub.2 to the opposed surfaces of the ceramic article and the article of metallic copper and, thereafter, heating the pair of articles in the air at a temperature of from 1000.degree. to 1200.degree. C.

As a first step to bend a glass along a line traversing the plate, external heat is applied to the glass plate such that a narrow zone containing the entire length of the bending line is heated more intensely than the remaining area to reach a temperature at which the glass does not yet soften but exhibits an appreciable lowering of its electrical resistivity. Then an electric current is caused to flow through the glass in the intensely heated zone from one terminal of the bending line to the other terminal, until the glass is softened only in this zone, i.e. along the bending line by the Joule effect of the current. In this state, desired manner of bending is achieved by the use of a suitably shaped bending die.

The contacted edge portions of plate glasses to be joined are locally heated to a temperature higher than in the other portions of the plate glasses, after the whole of the plate glasses is heated. Electric current is then passed to the edge portions in order to further heat the edge portions so that the edges of the plate glasses are molten and welded together.

The edge portion of a plate glass is locally heated to a temperature higher than that in the other portion of the plate glass, after the whole of the plate glass is heated. Electric current is thereafter applied to the edge portion of the plate glass in order to further heat the edge portion so that the edge of the plate glass is slightly melted.
