A sensor element includes an element body that contains a measurement-object gas flow section and a heat generation portion. The measurement-object gas flow section includes a main pump chamber, an auxiliary pump chamber, and a measurement chamber. A distance X1 in a left-right direction between a part of a first inner linear portion and a part of a second inner linear portion of the heat generation portion that overlap a main pump chamber projection region is equal to or more than ⅓ of a width Wp of the main pump chamber projection region in the left-right direction. A distance X2 in the left-right direction between a part of the first inner linear portion and a part of the second inner linear portion that overlap an auxiliary pump chamber projection region is equal to or more than 0.4 times the width Wp.

Sensor element and gas sensor

Disclosed is an air electrode for a metal-air battery, the air electrode including a separator composed of a hydroxide-ion-conductive inorganic solid electrolyte being a dense ceramic material, and an air electrode layer disposed on the separator and containing an air electrode catalyst, an electron-conductive material, and a hydroxide-ion-conductive material, or containing an air electrode catalyst also serving as an electron-conductive material and a hydroxide-ion-conductive material. According to the present invention, the reaction resistance of the air electrode including the dense ceramic separator can be significantly reduced in a metal-air battery while ensuring the desired characteristics of the dense ceramic separator.

Air electrode for metal-air battery

A fuel cell cathode contains a perovskite oxide as a main component. The perovskite oxide is expressed by the general formula ABOand including La and Sr at the A site. A solid electrolyte layer is disposed between an anode and the cathode. The cathode has a surface on an opposite side to the solid electrolyte layer. A first ratio of a Sr concentration relative to an La concentration is less than or equal to 4 times a second ratio of the Sr concentration relative to the La concentration. The first ratio is detected by the use of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy on the surface of the cathode. The second ratio of a Sr concentration relative to a La concentration is detected by the use of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy on an exposed surface exposed by surface processing of the surface and positioned within 5 nm of the surface in relation to a direction of thickness.

Fuel cell cathode containing a perovskite oxide

Provided is a separator-equipped air electrode for a metal-air battery, the separator-equipped air electrode including a separator composed of a hydroxide-ion-conductive inorganic solid electrolyte being a dense ceramic material; an air electrode layer containing an air electrode catalyst and an electron-conductive material, or containing an air electrode catalyst also serving as an electron-conductive material; and an intermediate layer disposed between the separator and the air electrode layer, improving the adhesion between the separator and the air electrode layer, and exhibiting hydroxide ion conductivity. The present invention enables an air electrode provided with a dense ceramic separator to ensure the desired characteristics of the dense ceramic separator and reduces the resistance of a metal-air battery (in particular, the interfacial resistance between the air electrode layer and the separator).

Separator-equipped air electrode for air-metal battery

A fuel cell has an anode, a cathode and a solid electrolyte layer. The cathode contains a perovskite oxide as a main component. The perovskite oxide is expressed by a general formula ABOand includes at least Sr at the A site. The solid electrolyte layer is disposed between the anode and the cathode. The cathode includes a surface region which is within 5 &#x3bc;m from a surface opposite the solid electrolyte layer. The surface region contains a main phase containing the perovskite oxide and a secondary phase containing strontium sulfate. An occupied surface area ratio of the secondary phase in a cross section of the surface region is greater than or equal to 0.25% to less than or equal to 8.5%.

Fuel cell

A fuel cell comprises an anode, a cathode, and a solid electrolyte layer disposed between the anode and the cathode. The cathode includes a perovskite oxide as a main component. The perovskite oxide is expressed by the general formula ABOand includes at least one of La and Sr at the A site. The cathode includes a surface region that is within 5 micrometers from the surface opposite the solid electrolyte layer. The surface region contains a main phase configured by the perovskite oxide and a secondary phase that is configured by strontium oxide. The occupied surface area ratio of the secondary phase in a cross section of the surface region is greater than or equal to 0.05% to less than or equal to 3%.

A novel electrode that can be used at high temperature in air, a fuel cell using the material, and a method of manufacture of the same are provided. The electrode material containing a component expressed by LaANiCuFeBO(wherein, A and B are at least one element independently selected from the group consisting of alkaline earth metals, transition metals excluding Fe, Ni and Cu, and rare earths excluding La, and x&#x3e;0, y&#x3e;0, x+y+z&#x3c;1, 0&#x2266;s&#x2266;0.05, and 0&#x2266;z&#x2266;0.05) exhibits relatively high conductivity at high temperature, and has the advantage of combination with other materials in relation to coefficient of thermal expansion.

Electrode material, fuel cell including the same, and method of manufacturing the same

The present invention provides a ceramic material capable of demonstrating compactness and Li ion conductivity to an extent that enables the use of the ceramic material as a solid-state electrolyte material for a lithium secondary battery, or the like. A ceramic material containing Li, La, Zr, Nb and/or Ta, as well as O and having a garnet-type or garnet-like crystal structure is used.
